Mike-----I believe you will find that the factory service manual is pretty much all there is (with the exception of something else I will mention in a minute). These are available in paper form or on CD's. I like the paper one so I can sit in my easy chair and read it. Of course, you have to be careful to not get grease on it when taking it out to the garage. I think General Motors products did have what they called an assembly manual in addition to their service manuals. Leastways, they did for Corvettes. I really think that a service manual is a absolute must if you own one of these cars. If you really get into it, there is a Loose Leaf Parts Catalog you can get. I got one in paper form but I am not sure this was the best. It is in a 3 ring binder and is huge. A CD might have been a better idea on this thing. You can look at exploded diagrams and by interpolating between the two section of the catalog, you can usually determine what the Chrysler part number was of most everything. It covers several models so it isn't just for Chargers. I have found it very useful--------after I figured out how it was put together. As 6T9 Charger said, EBAY is a good place to find these manuals. You can surf around the internet and find them too.
I bought the Factory Service Manual and the Parts Book through Bishko Books (http://www.autobooksbishko.com/). The price was good but look out for shipping! I bought a 4" three ring binder for the parts book since it's 1,500 loose leaf pages.
Look for these titles:
1968 MOPAR (Plymouth, Valiant, Dodge, Dart, Chrysler, Imperial) Master Parts Book [eb813R] $94.60
1968 DODGE CHARGER, CORONET, DART Body and Chassis Shop Manual [eb811R] $55
1968 DODGE CHARGER Wiring Diagrams [eb7566R] $16.50
http://www.autobooksbishko.com/search.cgi?year=1968&make=Dodgecar&category=All
They also have an eBay store but I don't have the link.
Troy
Now that I have a 69 Charger I need to pick up the proper manuals. Site searches picked up Lots-o-Hits for FSM and this seemed the most relevant. I want to make sure not only that I get the proper manuals but also all the ones that I need (should have).
Taking the hint from Troy's post above are these all the manuals I need or should consider picking up?
1969 DODGE CHARGER, CORONET & DART Body, Chassis & Electrical Service Manual [eb747R]
1969 DODGE CHARGER Wiring Diagrams [eb7565R]
1969 MOPAR (CHRYSLER, DODGE, DESOTO, PLYMOUTH) Body & Chassis, Text & Illustration Parts Book [eb815R]
http://www.autobooksbishko.com/search.cgi?year=1969&make=Dodge&category=All (http://www.autobooksbishko.com/search.cgi?year=1969&make=Dodge&category=All)
Is this worth picking up?
1969 DODGE CHARGER 440 CID Engine Bulletin [eb817R]
Wondered if this is the equivalent of the Illustration Parts Book [eb815R] above?
1968, 1969, 1970 Dodge parts manual http://www.jimshine.com/charger/69_MOPAR.pdf (http://www.jimshine.com/charger/69_MOPAR.pdf)
Many of these have a CD equivalent which seems like a good idea as it is searchable. Anyone buy the CD and regret doing so?
Thanks
The wiring diagram brochures are the same as the diagrams in the fsm they are simply a stand alone brochure that someone started amking several years ago. Still quite handy and cheap enough. Between the fsm and the parts manuals you will cover nearly all of it.

Sorry tan top, Dug up an old thread from 2007 on you because it specifically talked about "the" service manuals to have. I guess this is why they warn and say should you start a new thread. I guess it's better to start a new thread and transfer relevant content/ link to the old thread.

Any idea if that pdf I linked to is the same as the Parts manual? Sure looks like it. Same publish date and effectively the same name. No cover though.

Well, I got the FSM and the IPB both on CD for xmas and I think it will work out just fine. I figure I will print out several sections and include them in my "trunk kit" while I am traveling this summer. That way I have some of the important stuff in kit form if/when needed. :2thumbs:

I did take a look at this and they seem to be the same manual however I didn't spend hours and hours checking each and every page.
Hey baker hill pins, I know this is an old thread and sorry for digging it up but that old file link you posted above doesn't work do you have a copy you could send to me or know of any other places online it's posted ? 68-9 charger assembly manual PDF
Thank you for any help
Aside from the service manual, there is actually a factory assembly manual that is a "must have". It is Mopars version of the Fischer Body manuals. It shows even more diagrams of assemblies than the service manual shows. One negative point to make is the company that reproduces them has generated very dark and complex art to "watermark" each page. In many cases of very detailed breakdowns, their watermarks distort the diagram and make things hard to see. Still good to have to supplement the service manual.

I have one for 1970 Plymouth if any one is interested in it.
Hey Brock lee Does that book show a lot of the factory assembly measurements? Basically I'm looking into a heavy restoration of my 68 charger and its needs a lot of rear sheet metal right down to the rear frame rails replaced and im looking for a good manual that will have some pictures and a lot of measurements to go off of. Would you recommend this book as well as the factory manual or just one or the other.
Hey bills supervised
Is it an PDF file you can share? I assume they would be almost the same at the frame level a 68 charger and a 70 Plymouth?
Thanks for any help in advance guys
I bought the " 1969 Dodge Engine Equipment Assembly Manual" from Faxon Auto Literature. I was disappointed - the watermark on all the pages is so dark it is hard to make out the print. I called them, the nice customer service person looked at another one and agreed with me. They offered to but it back but i would have to pay shipping. So it lives in the garage, vs on my bookshelf with my other FSM's.
Beware of anything from Faxon. The internet view did not show a dark watermark.
Sorry no pfd file.
I downloaded a pdf file for my '69 charger!I linked it up here a couple of years ago.
I printed out and it was more then 800 pages. It's convenient because I don't have to worry about it getting dirty or damaged.
For my '68 I have bought the actual book as that has no pdf file.
I was very unhappy with the Faxon books as well because of the watermark. They are also a little incomplete as if they just picked some highlights to photocopy.
Is the link for the 69 download around still? If so can you post it please.
Thanks
mymopar.com is the site.
Thanks you sir! :icon_smile_cool:
