Title: Retrosound Redondo radio
Post by: Dino on April 26, 2024, 05:48:55 PM
I know some of you have this radio. When connected to your phone via Bluetooth, is there a way to skip tracks or do you need to do that on your phone?

Does someone use the old school overlays? What does it look like when the radio is on?Screenshot_20240426_184800_Chrome.jpg

not yet, i was hoping the one i ordered came with one but no luck, so i left it "stock" for now, but plan to get one when i can find it cheap enough in canada. every shipper from the states wants 30$ for a 15$ lens of plastic.

I know you've already ordered it but I'd seriously consider sending it back. The fitment and sound quality reviews on those are quite shitty. Get your original thumb wheel radio converted to AM/FM/BT. That way it'll look 100% factory and sound much better. If you don't already have an original thumb wheel radio, a really nice core can be had for $100 or less.

I saw the sound quality reviews but running it through a big amp with good speakers should make it work well. If not, I will definitely send it back. I have the stock AM radio in the dash now.

I got those overlays with the radio. They fell off so I just said f it and run without it. I'm not looking for a trophy.

Ha yeah they're definitely not a must. I bench tested the radio today, hooked up to a 5 channel amp and it sounds really good. I like the functions of it. Yeah the plastic thumbwheels are cheap but they look alright and work well.
I haven't figured out the volume control yet. I don't seem to be able to adjust it by holding it up or down and need to keep nudging it. Is that how yours is?
I should have everything installed tomorrow and will report back with the outcome.

that is actually my only problem with it personally, you cant hold the volume wheel to free-scroll the volume up and down on the left wheel, its 1 click each way. and the other is that Mute is presing the 3rd wheel to the right, having to remember that sometimes take a second if i need it lol.

No in depth review yet, but hooked up to a 5 channel amp and a few speakers, it plays really nice. The thumbwheels are less than ideal but it seems you need to develop a feel for them as it got better after using it for a while. I do not like that there is no rotary function for volume and I wish there was a way to add a potentiometer somewhere, but I'm not sure if I can. All in this seems to be a good option. There are 3 main module versions snd I took the middle one. I had no need for HD radio, SiriusXM, or an aux cable. All on it's less than $400, looks the part, and I can play music through my phone and make calls through Bluetooth. The info comes on the screen and you can tweak the color to perfectly match your gauges.
Oh and no issues making it fit either. You can tweak the components endlessly and just need to take your time.

Thanks Dino just wondering is that the screen savers that come with the radio if so what happens when the rear screen it lit up does the front interfere with the digital reading also what amp are you running and were did you mount it ? thanks ahead

Those are just stickers and are optional. I set my color to match the blue of the gauges and I can see the digital readout fine.
I have the NVX VAD11005 5 channel amp, mounted in the trunk against the rear seat cross bracing. 6x9 component speakers in the rear deck, tweeters mounted on the dash. Dual voice coil 90 amp Retrosound speaker in the center dash, and 12" sub in the trunk. I haven't taken pictures of the most recent work but will take some tomorrow. I'm about to make panels to clean up the trunk.
