The pic of the second car has a post on here, as to the legitimacy, and to my knowledge it was proven to be a real daytona missing the nose and wing. Nascarxx29 has some info on it for sure. I'll try to search for the post

Interesting 65post, I had spoke to a fellow in Quebec about a daytona that he had looked at (hemi 4spd) that was for sale in the mid 70's, claims it was the one on pg. 36 of MLcars in barns. Says a mustang enthusiast bought it and kept it until it burned in his garage in the 80's. I have seen the sheet on 639 & it was a V2 hemi, 4-spd. The article from the pic that 65post shown claims (638) was an auto car. Does your source remember the trans??
The two colored pictures of the Hemi Daytona above were shot by me!
The time was 1989, the place was the Polo Park mall parking lot, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The car still had it's wing supports in the trunk, and was obviously original. At the time, the nosecone, original hood, fenders, and the wing were missing.
Not to mention the Hemi!
I'm sure there's a good story of how the car came to be in that state, but I know nothing of that. There are several members of the Manitoba Mopars Auto Club that can say alot about that car, but I've been told only that it's still in the ownership of the same person that had it in 1989.

This is a side story, but there was for sure a HEMI Daytona in Canada that did burn in a fire in around 1982-83, and it was owned by a Mustang lover. As he was requesting at the time to trade the HEMI Daytona even up for a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang.

I'm 99.99% sure the one minus the wing isn't the one that burned in the fire.
And I'm also 99% sure that it isn't the same one that is mentioned on the website as being burned in the mid 70's. As the car I'm talking about was in perfectly fine condition in the early 80's. The car was in a building that burned, the car only received smoke damage, and slight fire damage, but the building it was in fell on the top of the car after all was said and done. So it was burned, and then crumpled. Not completey squished or anything, just had part of a wall fall on the car. However it was no longer nice enough to swap even up for a 69 Boss 429 Mustang 4 speed car that only had 20,000 miles on it.
Yes 69 500 the car on the website was a manitoba car. So your info is that the car in question was not completely destroyed? I was told that the fire was so hot so as to melt the wing???
I'll have to do some searching for the information I have on it. But just going from memory it wasn't in the part of the building that was actually on fire. But that it did receive some damage, but not extensive, and I don't recall anything close to it being hot enough to melt the wing. Would be better off to ask my dad as he was the one in the process of trading the Boss 429 Mustang to the gentleman for the HEMI Daytona. He bought the Mustang solely to trade for that Daytona.

The 638 is said to have been an auto. car.gold with a black rump.Burnt in 75 here in Quebec.The rear wing is suppose to have survived the fire.As for the vin. it was declared scrapped. ( on paper? ) Meaning the vin plate is still around.
65 post, did your sources indicate that 638 was in a building fire or was it an internal electrical harness fire?.... sure seems to be a lot of fires associated with these wing cars!

If I remember correctly, the car had a heapin' helpin' of bondo all over the quarters....which, combined with a completely new front clip, and maybe the doors (who knows?) could mean the car was salvaged.
Either way,
if the fire did burn the car...how did the VIN tag survive without a scratch?

I spoke to the original owner (the first one to put plates on it) of 638, he purchased the car from the dealership (he claimed it was the dealership owners personal car) in the spring of 1970 at which time the car was white with a red wing, he never knew the car was gold or brown prior to him owning it. He had many problems with the car including replacing the alternator multiple times until the car finally had an electrical meltdown almost a year after he bought it, alot of the wiring was destroyed. He then sold the car.
The next owner then removed the engine.
And after that, it burnt?
I'm still pretty sure that the car in question that was converted to be like a C500 is not the same HEMI Daytona that was owned by a Mustang guy. Just my thoughts though, as I don't really have anything else to go by.

Not sure. I have tried going through the photo's that my dad took of the car, but can't come up with which Daytona it is for sure. I had figured it would be on the same set of negatives as the Boss 429 that he was going to trade for the Daytona. but the only Daytona's on that roll of film are the ones that he already owned at the time of trying to trade for the HEMI one.

414638 has just surfaced. It is still in Manitoba, in the hands of the same owner since the 1980's. He says he has built a place to start restoration of the car.

No luck yet. I'm going through a huge box of negatives holding them up to a light, and then trying to figure out which car they are for certain. problem is that there is probably about 5,000 negatives in the box at a minimum. I'm still looking though.

Sorry but that car is too toast for me. I'd rather get a rust bucket Daytona that a crispy one. Also...I looked and that is the same car! You can tell by the wheels and the roof damage. So I thought the guy told the news he was gonna restore the car?? Now hes trying to sell it to people :popcrn:
Was it ever determined if that car was one of the original canadian shipped cars?
The guy that was trying to sell it just started calling me out of the blue, he told me that the car was in a garage fire and that the owner of the car was killed in the blaze and that he had inherited it. He also told me that the VIN and fender tag had survived and that the car was green w/white stripe, although when I asked him to send me a copy of the VIN or tag he refused. He wanted 40-50K CDN for the car as it sits and did not have any pics of the car before it was torched. He also couldn't tell me what the deal with the hood or the missing fender scoops(or the holes below them), or wing was. He kept calling for weeks saying that if I didn't buy the car he was going to put it on e-bay and it would sell for alot more money - I have still yet to see it surface there.

Okay so I'll admit it I am also that desperate if it is a real Daytona. But not $50K desperate for that one. I'd take it though, just to go out to the garage and stare at and say "I own a Daytona"
Peter's Car. 414630 is alive and well. It is not the burnt car pictured. I'd be interested to know what the VIN of this car is. I know of one that was supposedly stolen from here in Ontario around 1981-1982. But that cars VIN is not on any of the shipment lists.
I'll try to get some more info on the car today. The guy is difficult to deal with because not only does he not know much about these cars, he isn't even the owner - the owner doesn't speak english so he is acting more like a translator than anything. I had asked him numerous times for a pic of the car before it was burnt and he says they have none. I find this hard to believe because the story is that it was in the new owner's family since it was new. I can't believe in 38 years nobody would have taken at least one pic of the car. Also when I asked him for a pic of the fender tag that he had said survived the fire, he faxed me a handwritten breakdown of a what a Daytona tag would read, and that is all he wanted to send. I'll see what I can find out.
So what is the VIN or VON to the car that he faxed over? If it was a handwritten list of the fender tag, it would include those.

No when he first looked at it, it was a complete and running car. I'd say that it was a high #2 car back in the early 80's that is before the fire though. Afterwords, not so nice. Still looking for the photo's the guy sent my dad after the fire.
So the guy that was trying to sell me this burnt Daytona finally got to me this morning. He says that he has someone interested in buying the car and it should be gone by next week. He still did not want to forward me anymore info on it. He says he will contact me if the deal falls through and will offer me the car again for 40K. I guess we will just have to wait to see where this car surfaces.

I think with either car , you'd just be buying paperwork and a couple of body tags :P
Everything can be fixed in todays world. Its just a matter of if you have that much time or money. Sure the easy way to fix both of those cars is a rebody, but the one from Texas was to me fixable without a rebody.
I don't know , to me neather one looked like they had much usable metal left on them . if you replace 90 - 95 % of the car, one panel at a time , I would fill like it is still a re body . That being said I think i would take the Canadian car , it has more frame and floorboard metal and i think the Texas car didn't have a fender tag or build sheet.
Not having a broadcast sheet doesn't bother me that much. I do believe that it did have a fender tag though, and it is definately a legit car. If the outside of the Canadian car is burnt that badly, I'd say that any chance of a sheet still being on the inside of that car is next to none.

I've dug through the entire box of photo's and can't find the pictures. I do know that I have some though, so I'm going to try to sort through the box of negatives next. I do know that he did have the VIN to it at one time, and to be quite honest I'm about 99% sure that if it was written down then its now in Tennesee in a box in a mans attic. As everything my dad had wrote down about certain cars, he gave to a guy who has told me several times that its still all in that box and in his attic.
Wow 69 500, that box would be a sort of time capsule!
I'm thinking that the next time I'm in the area I'm going to swing over to the place and see if I can go through it. Or in a best case scenario bring it back home, but who knows.

That's too bad 65post, I know it was in Manitoba in 1977 in the condition shown in the pics you posted, except that it was sort of a bronze color with a white vinyl roof. If your source is sure it was scrapped in 1975 then someone must of put a 69 front clip on it and painted it bronze with a vinyl roof before 77. With any luck you'll bump into a friend of your source who is more willing to talk about it.
What a rough life some of these cars had!
