Title: 1968 vin code question 5th space engine
Post by: BrugeeRT on November 19, 2017, 11:36:02 AM
Can someone tell me what the difference was on a 1968 charger on the fifth value between having a "k" (440) and a "L" (440 High performance)?  Thank you

If the vin starts with XS29, there are only 2 engine codes that are correct in 68. L and J. There was no K code for a 440 in a 68 charger. And only one 440 was available, the L code 440 magnum (HP.)

That's generic. Not all combinations were possible. The "K" is for the low performance 440 which was likely found in the "C" body full size cars. A Charger would not have been available with it. Just like you wouldn't be able to get a 340 in any "B" body (including Charger) in 1968.

That makes sense.  Thank you!
