Title: Dash light dimmer switch question....
Post by: A383Wing on January 21, 2016, 11:37:14 PM
does anyone rebuild these? I have 4 total here that don't work, the rheostat spring has come loose on every one....

Would be willing to trade a couple to someone that can rebuild my other 2 if possible

If you cant find a rebuilt one maybe try your luck here

Mine works but the dimmer part is loose so someday I may go this route..

I agree with 68RT.  I bought a rebuilt one from him and it worked great.

I sent this guy 4 of my bad dimmer switches I had here, got 2 back and they look great...just have to pull the cluster out now to install the switch

I rebuilt ours with a loose coil, I used white appliance chip repair liquid
to bed the coil in the ceramic. Put a light, flat weight on it while drying
to ensure an even surface for the follower.

Put it back together with screws and it works fine, easy to test with an Ohmeter.

isn't it just easier to bypass it, I'm redoing my harness right now and when I got to the Dimmer switch the bottom contact was shot.  I really cant think of a time when I would dim it any way.

but their is plenty of repo and a few nos ones on ebay.  going to run you 150 to 250 for that option.

bypass it if you want, then you cannot dim the lights, and you cannot turn the dome light on unless you open the door. The eBay seller advertises these rebuilt units for $75....a far cry from your $150 - $250 ones with a lifetime guarantee

I'll add to this pole, yep this guy "devinism" is hands down a stand up guy with his repair work or his rebuilt items he re-sells. I have dealt with him 2 times and no problems. And I have dealt with other people on here and other MoPar forums that were flakes. So it's good to know that's there some great service providers out there.

thanks guys for the replys,  I bypassed it as I did before.  I gotta put those funds to more critical items.  I can always re add it down the road but to be honest I don't think I ever really needed it, I don't use it on  a daily basis so it not a big deal.
