Title: Steering shaft loose?
Post by: moparnole on March 27, 2017, 12:40:40 PM
Hey guys, Cody again with another dumb question ::) I put my Steering column back together in the 72 charger and noticed that when I tightened the steering wheel down that it moved a bit. I took it all back apart and I am missing the rubber shroud that fits over the bearing in the bearing housing, and I wasn't sure if that rubber piece being missing might be whats causing the steering shaft to move just a bit, since it isn't making a tight seal between the bearing and the housing itself? I would greatly appreciate any help I can get, and remember, there are no wrong answers....except the ones I give...those are wrong :slap:

Power steering? Or manual?

If by loose you mean you can pull it in and out, the "C" clip probably came off the shaft near the bearing.
