Title: Coil Oil
Post by: Ghoste on May 14, 2019, 08:30:07 AM
Here is a question out of curiosity and nothing else really, but what oil do they use in a coil?  Is it just like a motor oil or a special oil for transformers or what?  (I know its a goofy question but I wondered is all and thats how you learn)

"Transformer oil". It's typically mineral oil-based but it has a higher flash point than straight mineral oil. It's purpose is electrical insulation (high dielectric strength) and cooling (high thermal conductivity).
