I know that this is just bragging, but I have to tell someone that would appreciate it.
The other day The King himself actually called me to see how I'm enjoying the Superbird.
I can't freaking believe it!!!
Here's the proof..

(It took me while to figure out a way to blur out most of the numbers)
IF IT WAS ME I WOULD HAVE ASKED HIM FOR A HEMI FROM HIS GARAGE !

That is a great idea!!! :icon_smile_big:
The old 383 that sits in there now sucks!!! :flame:
Just tell him that everyone's giving you grief over that 383 since it clearly says 426 on the hood. ;D
For him to take time out and call you out of the blue(no pun) Just makes me respect that family even more!
They are some great people and he's the King in my mind(ok i know he's the king but you get the idea)

I know! It took them almost a month to tell me what motor was in there (the people at the promotions company were not car people ???). Once I found out it was a Satellite clone I was just happy it didn't have a slant 6!!! :icon_smile_dead:

Wasn't that totally cool of him? The promotions company said that he contacted them to get my phone numbers because he was just curious how things were going with the car. He really is a good ol' boy.
His first comment was "How's
MY car?" I thought, "Oh crap, he wants it back!"
If all celebrities could just be half the person that man is...
Gotta say I stoped watching when he stoped driving...
And I'm only 24 so that wasnt too long of watching.
Wow,how cool is that? Its nice to know that the King would take the time to follow up on your cool win! Thats one thing I always heard about Richard Petty, He has always made time for his fans, and never takes them for granted!
ON THE FLIP SIDE , BUY A CRATE HEMI AND HAVE A ONE BAD RIDE OR SELL IT FOR 125 K
No, don't sell it. How many other cars do you think you will own that Richard Petty is going to call and see if you are enjoying the ride?

What'cha want to do that for? Petty gets his Hemi's from John Arruzza and John's phone number is
336-475-0426 His business name is Arruzza Performance in Trinity, North Carolina. Get to the source for a better deal, starting at $13,000.00
Let's see....try to get a hemi from Petty for free or pay John 13k for one. ;D
IMHO. I wouldn't ask him for anything, that will be a sure sign he would never call you again. :Twocents: THat's a tricky subject asking people for things that you don't even know. Kind of turns people off. The car sounds great the way it is. It is one of one, clone or not, so in my mind that makes it an original.
Have fun with it and take pics when the King invites you to his shop. :icon_smile_big:

but do you have any Richard Petty stuff is what i wanna know? :smash: :smilielol:
:2thumbs:
Best part of that display is the picture of 4 generations of Pettys, standing by Lee's #42. Way cool... While that photograph might be reproducible, that gathering is not. RIP Lee & Adam... :'(
a lot of autographed stuff there

I agree. You are one lucky dog to win that bird, I wouldn't piss him off by asking for a hemi.
It was a joke clowns. ;D
Pretty cool to get a call from the King himself.
I've never had the opprotunity to meet Richard as of yet. Waited in line for hours one time, then the rain started to come down and they stopped signing autographs. I can't blame them, people had been out there begging for stuff to be signed for probably 8 hours or so. I don't know how those people are that patient with people.
;D
Hey BK,
I have a pretty big collection of Petty stuff but you put me to shame. :-\
Of course, since I got this car I've been spending a lot of time on eBay getting Petty Superbird items.
I showed it to my wife and she said "Yours better not get that big!" :flame:
I used to have a corner devoted to Petty and just his Superbird stuff, but then it got to a whole room, and now I've boxed up most of it. Only thing left of Petty's on my desk is a snow globe of his Superbird. Now the desk is a shrine to just C500's.

My wife bought that one for me from Wal-Mart and a 1/64th from Walgreen's. I've got her and my daughter trained to look for anything having to do with winged cars.

Hey, watch it! There are some members who happen to love the 383. All you have to do is save up $13k-$15k for a crate 426 and I'll give you $500 for the 383. ;)

Whoops! Sorry about that Bull. :icon_smile_blackeye:
I didn't mean to say anything so negative about 383's. This one is about wore out @ 70k miles and it ran terrible when I got it. I've finally got it to a drivable condition but this is not a high-performance car by any means. It's a cruiser and that's it.
The thing that is disappointing is you see the 426 c.i. decals on the hood and you expect to see a HEMI in there. I wish there was a way to make this motor look like a hemi like I've heard about those fake hemi valve covers for a Chevy small block. The hemi look would be impressive in there.
If I ever get that crate hemi though I'll give ya a call !!! ;)
I've seen a "quick glance" convincing fake Hemi job done on a big block Chrysler as well. It wasn't a kit, it was something the guy had rigged up himself. It didn't look bad though.
yeah Ghost, i have seen something like that before ,on either a 383 or a 440, the guy welded two stock rocker covers togeather and then drilled holes for the plug wires .
Well if you remember you can work on the Stage V heads from a hemi onto a 383 or a 440. HOwever the cost to do that is just about as much as finding a real HEMI.
You know, there could be a (small) market here for something like this.
Build an hollow adapter kind of like those real tall valve covers used in racing. Where the bottom end would bolt on like your stock valve cover and then expand out to the shape of a hemi valve cover mount. Basically like a tunnel ram where the carb adapts to your intake manifold. The hemi valve covers are so much bigger you could even snake your plug wires through the stock hemi spark plug holes, slide the boots on and it would pass the look, I believe.
We need a master fabricator to work on this. HotRod98, whatcha' up to?
I wouldn't mess around trying to fake a Hemi. Even if you spent a bunch of cash on a crate Hemi you'd still be way ahead on your car. You're only into the car for the $13k tax bill so far so for another $13k you'd have a Hemi-powered Superbird replica that'll be worth four times that amount. I'd for sure do it.
I don't know how much a HEMI Superbird clone would be worth. I wouldn't think it would be more than about $65-80K though. I could be wrong. If it was built on say a Road Runner it would probably be more than the Satalite. I haven't done much checking on the prices that clones bring these days though so Bull you may be right.
My only cut on that is the history that comes with the car. Wouldn't it be worth more because of this alone and pictures of the king and all with the winner, you know stuff like that. I'm asking cause i don't know.

Yeah, but the only people that know about what motor it had are the restorers and the thousands of people I've told! :icon_smile_big:
You and your big mouth. :icon_smile_big:
Man how stories fly when people open their mouths too. So you've told thousands, and they told oh lets say 5 people, so now every body knows cause you know that one other loud mouth along the way has heard. :)
Man,, that's some cool stuff !!!!!! Now, you need is a 440 six pack in between the fenders..... Who cares that it's a clone, that car WILL ALWAYS have a cool and interesting story that few will ever duplicate or even believe... :icon_smile_evil:
But, all here believe.................. :icon_smile_approve:
Cheers,
Troy
could always find a cheaper 354 or 392 hemi and make it look like a 426 mill, thats wut ido way cheap and u still gotat hemi ;D-MATT
matt you drinkin what's with the spellin, i'll see you on the chat tonight :icon_smile_big:
