Wow a cable that is painted to the battery end but not painted back toward the engine?????
Like I said we can post pictures all day long of different cars. Guess what? They are all different. Each car needs to be restored as found. If you do not have an original car to begin with {{{{then you are just doing what others are doing}}}. And as pointed out each year more is learned about these cars and the bar is raised. BUT original pics of the car being judged takes away ALL discussion. That's a fact Jack.

So, you posted this Moparts reply to a photo of your car to concur that an original, unrestored reference photo should take precedence over a Mopar National Judge's opinion? I'm assuming that right now it would not? If so then I'd agree with you that a documented reference photo of the car in an unrestored state should dictate details. :yesnod: Seems to be a no brainer....

I use to judge wingcars at local shows this post was so familar .And a survivor detail found on one example .I would see it duplicated on future cars Id come across.It was something I experienced and believe .Cars are only original once .And how you find it . Document it with pictures .When your challenged to prove thats how it was on your particular car.And your not a carbon copy of some other cars unique details.AKA Random factory workmanship
The issue was that the OP's car (Mopar Grandpa) was judged at the Nats and not in the OE Gold class. His car was restored by a well known shop with a couple detailing items outside the norm of what the particular judges had encountered, and he got dinged, perhaps unfairly. But he did not have photos to prove his particular car was that way.
It is true that assembly line procedures varied wildly. If you think the low man on the totem pole assigned the rotten job of shooting the core support blackout from under the car gave a rip, I have a bridge to sell you. Same with painting the engine and how much paint got on the neg cable and where.
Judging cars is a thankless job. Judges can be imperfect. If you are headed down the slippery slope of judging and certification and there are things done to your car that might fall outside the accepted norm, you need to be prepared to back it up. Even then you still might get dinged. Owner preparation, judges knowledge, politics and ego all seem to play a part in subjective evaluations like judging a car.
Sadly, since the old, defunct 5 Star judging at Carlisle was finished there is not a great Mopar judging venue.
I am talking about a proper points system with real experts that will share their remarks during the judging.....with no politics, guessing, silence etc.
Laugh, bash, say whatever you like but the Corvette NCRS judging is what all other judging should aspire to.

Naw - I would say it is more like messing with the stuff for close to 40 years (ok - let's not sugar-coat it....Old Age! :P ).
True its a thankless job .And from working on local area cars .And going to the shows it became like judging your own work on others car .The upside was I did their mechanical electrical and furnished correct H bolts etc.And got heads ups on cars sitting and needing work .And met alot of new mopar /wingcar people from the area
