Title: Funny Cars - vintage 1st and 2nd generation Charger race photos
Post by: held1823 on May 08, 2019, 12:17:23 AM
I've accumulated thousands of old Mopar drag photos over the years, including Chargers by the hundreds.

There were quite a few teams that ran this era's body in many different paint schemes throughout the years.

There is a separate thread for the 1971 - up body style.

I figure if I alone post one photo a day, this thread would stay active for years, but please feel free to add to the thread.

If it doesn't generate much interest, it will eventually work its way into oblivion

I didn't save the photographer name on many, so if it isn't shown on the photo i'd be happy to edit a post to give due credit

this full on lace paint was short lived as the car was crashed during one of its first events. it was rebuilt, but with a different scheme

I would love to find an old 68-70 Charger F/C body and build a state of the art new chassis under it with a blown Hemi of course.

the car was the Imperial Customs piece prior to Super Chief. It then became the LA Hooker. After the LA Hooker, the body was sold to the McCracken brothers and became the Sundancer, who ran it  on their home built chassis.

the newer charger body was crashed hard, and that was the end of the Super Chief. The crash was caught on film (see end of video clip above), and is shown in the movie Funny Car Summer.

That is so cool you knew all that.

i only knew part of it. some i learned from the team's facebook page.

Pretty wild how often these things changed hands. Pretty sad there isn't more interest in race history.

The chargers were so cool, especially when most teams were running smaller A and E bodies

Even more uncommon was a plymouth B body

6.70's were the norm around 1970

i saw somewhere that top engine builders were getting around 1800 hp then
