I've switched to non ethanol and my 4bbl 440 really likes it now that I don't run my Charger every week. Some extra cranking if it's sat for some time but fires right up and runs fine. (Non ethanol is plentiful in FL for the most part due to all the boating.)
I use it 90% of the time. Also mix some av gas with it on occasions.
When you have full access to it, why the hell would you use anything else?
I run 33% AV100LL to 67% Shell 91 premium in every car. I can leave them sit for 5 months in the Winter and they start on the second crank!
Ping is the thing. It's only 89OCT. :scratchchin:
All of those marinas have to be selling ethanol free Premium ! Every Verado is running Premium...
We don't have a choice in this poorly run state. It is (Up to 10 %) Ethanol or make your own.
Some people claim that ethanol has a higher octane rating than it is rated. I don't know if I believe that buy I am not a chemist, nor do I have any friends that would be able to test samples to prove the ratings they have.
Ethanol has about 20% less BTU's in it than gasoline. I truly doubt it can make a car run better than good 100% gasoline.
Most of the gas stations around here have 3 grades of gasoline 87 89 and 91 octane
When I read the little blurb under each handle at the pump it says 87 may contain 10% ethanol 89 may contain 5% ethanol and 91 is 0% ethanol
Think I have come across one station with Super at 93 octane also
All car pumps in Canada now contain 10% ethanol. Thank the drama teacher for that....
Here in the lovely confines of SC, several years ago the Secretary of agriculture "outlawed" the sale of premium non-ethanol under the guise that it was "too hard to get". So our max is 89 for non-ethanol. I run that, along with VP Octanium booster to get me to a guesstimate of 93 for my 440. It has always run pretty good with this combo and none of the dreaded pinging.
Aluminum heads helped quite a bit also. :2thumbs:
Around my home state of Arkansas, about all you can get it 91 octane if you want non ethonal. The gas stations that sell ethonal fuel offer 93 octane. I always wonder which one is best for an old car... 91 octane non ethonal, or 93 octane with ethonal. My car should be on the road pretty soon so I guess ill find out
I run 91 non ethanol gas in my collector cars, my lawnmowers, and my snowblowers. Some carbs have rubber parts that don't hold up well when running ethanol gas.
Yea my power washer and KZ440 also. :2thumbs:
