This is Jeep1007 ,  hope you register and post here.

To all others , met this guy on Absolute Poker,  he said he had 3 daytonas and a superbird back
when they weren't as valuable. I believe him as he immediately knew the daytona production number of 503.

Hope to see him show up here.

I can still remember the vin on one of the Daytona's, XX29L9B410760.  2 of the Daytona's were Y-2, I believe the 3rd one was B-5 and the Hemi Charger 500 was F-8.  I sort of knew Jim Radke and belonged to his club "winged warrior" along with the guy who painted his Daytona like Bobby Allisons Coca Cola car, have pics of it but can't remember his name.  The picture is outside of Lou Whitfields house and it has Lou's Superbird, the Daytona, an AAR and my Challenger T/A.  He had the long intakes on the Daytona from a letter car.  I still have a bunch of the old newsletters from the winged warrior so could probably find his name again.  Hopefully somewhere I still have movie film (yes way back) of us doing the parade lap at the old Riverside International Raceway with the wing cars for a Nascar race.

I remembered Joe Machado's name last night.  I heard his Daytona was used in a Spice girls video years back also.  Anyone know if he still has it?

I will try and go through some old pictures and scan them.

I found Lou's Superbird on the side of the road one night, seems he was just "cruising" as Lou called it and passed a CHP that had someone stopped on the other side of this 2 lane road.  Lou pointed the Superbird away from town at that point and would have been fine except a few miles ahead there was a train across the road and stopping from that speed took awhile.  Once he got it stopped the engine had died and it was always hard to start ( 12.5 to 1, high lift cam, flowed heads, you know the typical Lou touches).  By the time he got it started the CHP had finally caught up so end of that story.  I talked to the CHP and he said ( exact words ) "he went by me so fast I couldn't even tell what color it was".  Well Lou's Superbird was bright orange!!!  Then there was the time Lou and Joe Slama were out by Palm Springs and he went so fast he had to force the headlight buckets down when he stopped, they were stuck open.

Joe Machado mounted a video camera between the front seats and filmed while driving fast.  Our club went to Riverside International Raceway and raced the cars twice that I know of and he filmed while doing that.  I will have to tell the story of Lou at Riverside some other time.

I just transferred a VHS to DVD of Joe's shenanigans at Riverside and Willow Springs.

Lou is still around.  He still has a Talladega

There wasn't by chance a blue and white Challenger T/A on his tape was there?

Will take a look.   I remember it was a VARA vintage event with Panteras, Ferraris, etc.

This is the only pic I have of the second Y2 yellow Daytona I had.  This was before I owned it.  Lou Whitfield and I went to Las Vegas so I could buy a wrecked Superbird.  The guy had the Superbird and this Daytona with a 1968 frontend on it ( i remembered it as a 1969 but was mistaken).  The Daytona went through a few more owners before I got it.

I will add pics of the Superbird when I find my photo album.  I have seen pic's of what some of you consider "bad" cones but wait till you see this one and how it turned out.  Colin Young was a wizard with metal.

hctub

Forgot to add, that is Lou Whitfields superbird in the background.

Hey HC, glad to see you here. Those are some very interesting stories. That's the kind of history we can't get enough of, including pics,  as they are like mopar porn here.

I like the Minilites on the Superbird too.

Those were good days when we were able to drive these cars.

The LA county Corvette and Pantera clubs used to rent Riverside Raceway every year.  They invited our club to join them twice that I was able to attend.  For around $60.00 you were able to race your car around the racetrack as fast as you dared.  The only rule was no passing in the corners.  They had A, B, C and D class.  A= race cars with experienced drivers, B= race cars with non expert drivers, C=modified cars with experienced drivers and D= street cars with novice drivers.  We all fell in D class.  You would race for 20 minute intervals but only against your class.  I think we got in around 8 or so sessions in a day.

Lou Whitfields Superbird was not stock by any stretch of the imagination but he was in class D.  Lou thought they announced class D but it was really class B, race cars with with non expert drivers.  Lou went out with the class B guys and proceeded to pass the president of the Pantera club in his race pantera down the back straight.  Here was this "street car" weighing several tons passing a race pantera.  Needless to say, we weren't invited back the next year!!!

Here is a pic taken at Lou's house in May 1980.  It has Joe Machado's Daytona, Colin Youngs AAR and my Challenger TA.  On the extreme left you can see Lou's Talladaga.

Yeah but at my age the stories get harder to remember.

Here are a couple pic's of Joe Machado's Daytona when he had the long runner Chrysler letter car intake on his car.  He obviously wasn't afraid to try different things with his car either.

Excuse my ignorance but can you elaborate a bit on the intake....gotta say it looks BAD A$$

Howd it do for power?

nascarxx29

The intake was from a 300 G it came in a longram sytle or short. Thanks for sharing the archive retro pictures
