Tell me about it... I get to fix somebody elses F*ckup. I get to replace the entire trunk including subframes. Someone tried to repair the existing trunk and completely screwed it up. The floors are in good shape... yipee
And here's a 68 R/T I owned for a short time back in the late 80s.

Here's mine
VROOOM VROOOM!!!
Going back to the body shop monday......just fixing some gouges they put in it before I even picked it up in may
Dont know if this counts just yet but It is slowly getting on its way to me... so I could officialy say its mine in few more weeks once the rest is paid off... but anywho its as good as mine. I always wanted a blue original car and this 1 is original in blue, even sports all the original body panels including trunk floor and floor pans which is rare in itself to find for any price as most have rusted out and been replaced or patched up etc. :icon_smile_big: :icon_smile_big:

I agree that QQ-1 is the best blue, but that car color looks off/lighter. Maybe it is just the exposure. :P

I really haven't visited this thread since I started it. Well, maybe just once. I can honestly say there isn't one 68 Charger in this thread that I don't like. I'm on Charger overload seeing all the color and wheel combos! Reluctantly. but willingly I've put my 68 Up for sale in order to buy another Mopar that has my interest. This has me really thinking if I can actually let my 68 go. I've busted my ass for over three years to get the car to the level it is at today. One thing is for certain, the 1968 Dodge Charger is the best looking car to ever come out of a Chrysler assembly plant. Without the 68's success we may never have been lucky enough to have the awesome 69's and 70's as well. If I had my way and money was no object, I would own one of each year and of course a 69 500 and 69 Daytona. Well ok, several of each year because there just are too many different combinations to only have one of each. Again, without a CHARGER DAYTONA there probably wouldn't have been a Superbird either. My opinion is that the 69 grill is the grill that inspired the similar center grill on the Plymouth Cuda's, you have to admit, there is a distinct similarity! Here's another analogy that I've come up with, The 68- 70 Chargers are the e-bodies of the b- bodies in the Mopar world. In other words, the second generation Chargers are the most desirable b-bodies ever built, bar none! Our generation has been lucky to live through one of Chryslers best periods in history. You have to admit that the 68-70 Mopar musclecar era produced some of the best looking and performing cars to ever hit the streets of America. Lots of people say history repeats itself but I don't believe we will ever see a performance car era like the 60's and early 70's ever again. If I happen to not sell my 68 it won't hurt my feeling one bit. So c'mon, keep posting those 68's!

I had the wheels purchased within 30min of buying the car. They were at my house before the car was :)
Too bad they had to wait 3 years to get installed. Got the horn, too. Funny I always get two questions - 1: Got a hemi? (no, but a 470 stroker motor usually gets *some* respect back), and 2: Got the horn? So I at least get to say "yes" to one thing :icon_smile_cool:

Who's Mustang?
That's mine, too. It's just a 6cyl that my wife got as her first car. It was my first restoration project, and she loves having it to drive on nice days. Great car. Not a speed demon, but Mustangs do have a certain charm. I'm an equal-opportunity Muscle Car lover; I have 3 chevys, 2 fords, a Mopar, an Olds and Buick. I just like old cars

Not only is it a 442 - it's a 442 4-spd with 4:11 gears, and it's my Dad's first car. He bought it brand new off the showroom in 1965. It was wrecked in '84 and I finished restoring it in 2005.

That was back when the "442" actually meant what it was intended to. In later years it was nothing more than a badge they stuck on the side of a car.

And I have learned a TON about fabrication.. Plus I did it on a rig I could mess up and not feel bad!! hahah!!
Anyhow, I got a 1967 Vergin 440 block and all the stuff to do the bottom end... I went spend crazy on the last engine and messed it up. Now I know a little bit more, and realize now how to better spend the money. I still have some of the good parts from the 383 though!

Yup I remember that car!! Wow is that the same car!! It was in real good shape but I never got to take a close look at it..
I (AllBlueRT) back then, asked you it's whereabouts & I can't remember if you told me no or just never got back to me.
So one day I had off work & sat down with my trusty WebTV, I seen a "Jack in the Box" restaurant in one of your pix so I cross referenced it with all of the paint & body shops in a 100 mile radius of Boise until BINGO I found them a couple address number's apart on the same road. ;D
I called them up & he said he'd sell it for $12k. :o Except he was pushing this motor that had a pile of money in it. I think he said he had like $20k into it & didn't sound like he wanted to separate the two but didn't say no either.
So I lined up a trailer & a weekend but just never got my wife to warm up to the idea of a '69 & '70 all blue (no vinyl tops) Chargers. I always kinda kept the fact the '69 was an SE to myself hoping to some day score it. But that was many years ago. I had just bought my '70 Charger for $14k & my wife was wanting me to sell it to buy the 500 which kinda defeated my whole vision.
I always wondered what happened to you. Good to see you're still alive & kickin' plus you kept your Charger. :2thumbs:
Sorry for the 'jack...not really. ;)

Thanks buddy. I had those 14's on, then went to 15's with 15x10's in the back. Looked nice with all that rubber back there. Now I'm fully restoring it and I plan to put 17-18 inch Magnum 500's on it. We'll see how my money is holding out as we approach the finish! :D

Nope. Best I have :shruggy: 440RDN, it's hard to say. However, the rocker and lower fender looks good. There's one rust spot on the lower quarter from what I could see.
This was mine once... Was forced to sell it because I had to pay for a divorce lawyer. The last time I saw it it was on E-Bay at a dealer in St. Louis. It was sold but I have no clue where it ended up.

Oh yea, I think it was in the 38 to 40 K last I saw it. It still breaks my heart because there was virtually no plastic in that car when it was done. 4 & 1/2 years of work and only one Summer to enjoy it. I hope one day who ever ends up with it comes on this site. If things are right I would love to buy it back some day.

Yeah, original color, although sprayed over in areas so not looking forward to seeing what's under it all. The rear quarters need to be replaced, the 78 year old grandma I bought it from would scrap along her garage moving it around. The trunk is gone also. 383 4 brl, all original 73k miles. I just replaced the intake and carb to have more fun but she is sputtering. 68RRFlyer is making a house call to help with that. Anyway, really enjoy this forum and this thread in particular. ...
First time posting a pic of this car. It's been in a garage for 10 years. Ready to roll as soon as I decide on which insurance to get on it.

What's the Logo from Finn?.. and, what are your wheels' specifics?.. :popcrn: you pics on the the other thread are just too cool for school BTW! :drool5: the shifter handle is over the top, you make that?.
Thanks man!
Logo I designed myself. I always liked the decals on the general lee but I didn't want a general lee, so I decided to do my own take on it. I knew I wanted the car to be black so I started with a jolly roger flag messed with it in photoshop until I had what I was looking for. In retrospect I would do some minor changes here and there but it works for now. The shifter is made by a guy named Brian Kilduff who I met at the Spring Fling mopar show. Its fully ratcheting and built like a friggin' rock. His website is http://www.kilduffmachine.com/home.html to see more pictures and videos. Love that thing. There's a full length console that goes with it too, I just dont have it installed in that photo.
The wheels are Coy C-55s in gun-metal gray. I painted the numbers, flag, and stripes to match.
Front is 18x8, rear is 20x8.5 which is the widest they offer, which was lucky because clearances are really stinkin' tight with the Airride setup.

Hi Steve, The Superbird was mine also. Had it for about 10 years, then lost it in a divorce. Got to keep the Charger though. The bird was a numbers matching, 440 6bbl, 4 speed, bench seat car that was a ton of fun to drive around in. I miss that car :'( Thanks for asking.

I had to cut out the rusted away tubs and wheel wells for the tires to fit. I wanted big tall tires, so cutting out the rust worked good
for me. I added mini tubs and just started to add some metal to the openings.
The trunk pan was gone as well as lower quarters.
AWESOME, hope mine is going to look somewhat like that!!!!

HI, I'm new here but not new in Mopars.
Just bought this XP29H8B from Indiana and it'll be exported to Finland, Europe. Sorry guys. :icon_smile_dissapprove:
It's has been garaged since 1989 and odometer shows 69.000 miles. It's need some work and tune upp, but looks still pretty solid and complete.
Can't wait to get it home!
I'll update look and stance. I'll lower front end and use Wheel Vintaques steel wheels with Bottle Cap hubcaps. Also black bumble bee stripe will be added.
I hope that Charger will be perfect match up with my 489 cid "PPRCuda".

Thanks for the comments. The car is dark green, but looks black unless it's in direct light. I was torn between black and green, so I picked both LOL.
Here's my R/T....been like this for 3+ years..
Was going to do the work myself, but just so busy with other projects. Got estimate of $5500 to repair rust areas in 1/4's. Then I'd still have to finish bodywork and paint myself. May sell my hotrod to do it...otherwise car may never get done.

Hi what size wheels?
front, back, backspacing and tiresize?
Like it a lot, (would be a happy customer, when he/she get's it).
These wheels and tires are off of my Challenger, used for fitment. We are waiting on the Cragars to come in. Cragars will be 17x9 w/4.5backspace on rear and 17x8 w/4.5 backspace on front. Tires will be 1" taller(255/60-17) on rear than the 27"ers on my Challenger wheels. Fronts will be 235/60-17. Unfortunately the rears wont show as much dish as my Torque-Thrust II's(17x9.5w/4"back).

Here are a couple I took of one of my babies at Ohlone College (location of the Mopar Ralleye show). I attended my nephews Junior College baseball game (the twins play for the 2010 State Champion Ohlone Renegades and the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs) where they faced each other for the first time ever. Epic. Of course I drove the '68 over and parked it a good distance away from the field. ;)

Yes they are!...I bought it that way.... I have the origional blue seats (which look like they were in a hamster cage for 10 years) but like the leather and I can recline them...now I have to find out how to make the back seat look the same! I have not touched the interior yet...they stripped it (no carpet or headliner) and painted everything black before I bought it....the guy who started to restore it must not have liked the uu1 in and out!

I also gave it a brand new 1/2 pitch blower belt.

Small update how car looks today. I got it home in January. I have buffed paint, repaired brakes and put some new parts to suspension. I wanna drive this summer and do major restoration later.

eBay cop wheels, 15x7 with 255r60-15 Firestone Indy 500's.
That was an accidental lucky nice shot, I took with my HTC phone camera...colors are good but note the oblongated rear wheel!
Here is my progress on my 68 I have been working on the past few months....I finally got the car running and got to take my son for a ride :icon_smile_big:....got the power windows working so we didnt burn up! the other pic is at my buddys shop...we are trying to decide which cam to change to....the one in it is way to big...no brakes suck!!

Rgds Pepe
Small update how car looks today. I got it home in January. I have buffed paint, repaired brakes and put some new parts to suspension. I wanna drive this summer and do major restoration later.
I like those hubcaps. Are those for 68 Chargers or are they from another mopar?

I just spotted a 68 on Wed of last week. It was in Tucson Arizona on the northwest side of town. It was a black primer color. Looked very straight. Had not seen one in a very long time and then a week after I buy my project I see it. I wanted to follow it to talk to the driver but my wife would not let me. Wish I had a pic of it....
Here's mine

Thanks....The car is stock underneath....I lowered the torsion bars about as low as you can go without causing too many problems....the tires are 245 60 15 15x7 front and 265 60 15 15x8 rear...I want to lower the rear next...have to get a new set of shocks first...they are all but gone!

Met Alex at the Mopars with Big Daddy Show and he owned this Chargerin the early 70s. It was stolen in 1975 and he got a call from the police a year ago saying they had found his car. It was returned to its rightful owner and is now displayed proudly. I'll post the whole story another time as he doesn't get on computers, but I read this story either here or on Moparts when it happened..........

Those wheels are for '' muck up '' of the wheel wells. Still need to replace driverside quarter and adjust inner well. I'm a BIG fan of Nascar style wheels and I'm getting a set made in 17' dia. Plan is to do 10 x17 back and 8 x17 front. As soon as I get some heat in my garage I'll continue the work and start a build tread ;)
Plan is to do a Pro-touring/Nascar/hybrid-something in dark Gungray metal with all crome blackout.

Yes Mate, it is. Money well spent. They're super comfortable and look pretty good too. :2thumbs:
I did have to shift the bottom anchor point to the rear though in order to allow the front seat to slide all the way back and to make it easier for back seat passengers to climb in. That wasn't a major issue though.

Hi Mate
Thanks for the feedback, yep the stripe was a custom paint, a nice graphite pigment that varies with intensity in the daylight. It is unusual to see a charger with such a stripe, but i think it goes well with the black,

Scored some old widened slots off an XA Falcon Hardtop (think Mad Max) - 14x8s and 14x10s, very hard to find over here (15s even harder but keeping an eye out for some). Had to remove the 2 inch blocks and bang in some new air shocks but they just clear! Keeping the 15 inch cop rims and will alternate from time to time. Massive dish on the rears!

I guess I should! lol I was the one that started that thread. I went similar to user "mxzx440" so I can't really take credit for my choices although they are a little different is size. My fronts are 17X7's where his were 17X8's. The backs are 18X9.5. The tire sizes are 235/45R17's and 275/40R18's. BFGoodrich G-Force T/A KDW 2's. They hook-up great and I love the look!

Love both cars.
Thought I would revive this thread since I'm a '68 owner now. Not much too look at now, but I will say the body on this thing is as in good of shape as any old Mopar I've ever owned. Bad thing is the floor pans, they are shot, probably from sitting outside a few years without a windshield. The trunk floor is a little soft, too. This is a plain jane XP '68, no a/c, manual brakes, column shift/seat car. No fender tag, so it's pretty much a blank canvas for whatever I want to do. I plan on making a driver out of this one, on somewhat of a budget. I picked up a low miles 360 with a 727 trans off craigslist a few months back, probably will put that in it. Work has begun, but already have a set back, my first order is screwed up, so I got to deal with returns, and getting the right parts. I'm going to try to start a thread soon to update progress as I go....unlike the 69, I pretty much didn't start up a thread until I finished painting it and started putting it together.

My 68 beater. Has typical trunk/quarter/front floorpan rust. Has 383 Magnum/ auto on the floor. I got it 8 years ago pretty cheap. Spent a couple months getting it roadworthy & drove it for about a week until I picked up another car & its been sitting inside hibernating ever since. I will do something with it "someday".

Found the car in 03 and it is being redone as I type. I did part of the show circuit in eastern VA from 2005 and 2006 but nothing like the big boys. Just a local hobby guy having fun. I drive it to local events like cruise in, get togethers with other car guys and an occasion charity event. No racing. I am too old, it's too expensive and I did enough dumb things with my previous three Chargers to last me a lifetime :yesnod:

Thanks CDR, you too...definitely badass! I'm trying to break it up into stages; i originally wanted to paint, etc but i think what i have is good enough and its not like i dont like the color so i'll save myself that work. Stage 1 is exhuast, electrical, brakes, wheels and interior. Stage 2 is suspension and stage 3 is motor, tranny, rearend. If all i ever get done is stage 1, at least i'll have something that i can at least always enjoy driving.

Haven't posted a pic for a while. Plan to do a 4-speed swap next month...

They are the Cragar Series 342 "D-window" steel wheel with black centercaps, 15x7 in front and 15x8 in rear. They are definitely heavier than the repro slot mags I was running. Sounds like the Aero wheels weigh less than these Cragars!
Aero wheels only weigh about 20 lbs. each. I have no idea about the Magnums.

I'll weigh one next time and check. We changed out the magnums to aeros at the track for the Daytona photo shoot and I couldn't believe just how light they were. So the magnums must suck a lot of horsepower just to turn them . A mate came over yesterday in his oz Val Charger and has 15" ansen sprints on it, they look cool

Appreciate the kind words folks. I fear that I tend to focus on the areas remaining that need work and then forget the bigger picture. The closer you get to being "done" on one of these cars, and the further it seems to be out of reach. Way too-easy to sweat the small stuff and forget how to enjoy all the other fun parts of ownership.
I think most of us are like that. :2thumbs:
Love the bone stocker - that blue looks perfect on it.

That's the long story I mentioned. It had been UU-1 base coat/clear coat for 15-years, and when I re-did it I wanted the more metallic blue of the non-original paint.

Nice day in Colorado today. Here's my 11-year old giving a car show attendee a little dose of Charger religion. This is a very small local show that actually calls you and invites you to attend (pretty nice!). They even feed you and hand out shirts and other trinkets(!). Accordingly, it's the only show I get to regularly. There have been many years where mine was the only Charger in attendance. This year there were 3 for a little while, another '68 that came (but did not stay) and a very nice '66 that showed up and decided to spend the day.

Hello 303 Mopar! Looks like you beat me to this.
Good meeting you and your beautiful '68 yesterday Lloyd. Sorry I had to run, hopefully we can get together for a cruise soon! And it sounds like you got to meet Dave with his new '66.
303 Mopar: Enjoyed our brief chat. Yours is the very first '68 I've seen out here. I know there are others around, but I never seem to run into them. I'm a bit sorry my car wasn't better prepped for the show, but I flat ran out of time (too-many other things competing for my attention these days.....and it is a driver, you can see the grime on motor & the battery box in your photos). Fall is almost here, which is the best time for cruising. In the spirit of this post, here is last year (a little better cleaned up in this one). After you've had them 19-years, you just don't seem to sweat the small stuff as much.

I agree, not many '68's out here for sure. Even at the Colorado Mopar Show, there were only 4 2nd gen Chargers and I had the only '68. Your car is beautiful Lloyd, very cool back story too. Wish I had more time to chat.
The car looked fairly respectable after the show (duh!), so one warm morning here (Tuesday), I took my boy to school in it (no conflicts with any Cadillacs this time). I also thought this scene from the door to my garage looked good tonight too. The UU1 looks quite different in low light. Need to get the cover back on it.

The car really seemed out of place at his school Tuesday. Everything else was 4-doors, white, grey, black or silver, quite sedate, and very-much newer. I suspect that most of the other drivers never even noticed it, as many of them were mom's that were busy with their cell phones. I'm trying to remember what life was like before smartphones. Everybody's multi-tasking anymore. At least the drive up and back was nice.

My 68 driver. Not perfect and never will be but I don't have a fortune tied up in it and am not afraid to drive it.

Here is my entry, an R/T I call Charlene. I picked her up in August of 2013 after sitting in storage since 1989, with the original 440 and 727. All fender tag, radiator support, and trunk numbers matched, although she was in a front end collision at some point, and an entire front clip from a 69 was used to repair her. I paid $8k to make her mine, which I considered to be a good deal at the time, and a real steal now! The car was completely original, (other than the '69 front grille and sheet metal) down to the stock cast iron manifolds and original carb, with the exception of a pair of glass packs, traction bars, and an electronic ignition upgrade. I changed the oil and put a battery in her, fired her up and drove her for the first time in 24 years. I drove her to sheetz, filled up her tank and her tires and we spent the rest of the evening cruising. That evening is probably tied for the best night of my life with my wedding night ;D . Since then I've pulled (and saved) the numbers matching engine and trans for a 440 with stealth heads, hughes 246/250 cam, tunnel ram with 2 750 dp's, and a built up 727. Took her to Maple Grove one time and ran 12.011 at 115 mph. I've also installed a repro 68 grille from classis industries, Wilwood disc brakes at all 4 corners, a Gerst tubular front suspension setup, recovered all the seats and installed new carpet, along with a whole bunch of other small repairs and upgrades. Anticipating added a gear vendors to the mix this winter! If you have instagram, you can see a little more of my car on my page, 68_charter_rt

awesome 68 !! love the slots :drool5: :2thumbs:
Thanks! When I got the car it had 14" Keystone Klassics, which I really liked, but when I did the Wilwood brake swap I couldn't use the 14" wheels anymore, so I threw on a set of 15" cop car wheels I had sitting around, but never really liked them. I had a hard time making up my mind on which wheels to buy, and when I saw a set of slots on my friends Cuda, I knew that's what I needed!
Recovering here today. Too-much vino with dinner last night (tis the Season!). These photos have been posted here before but I need to feel like I'm at least thinking about doing something with my car. The constant bad-news cycle on the lame-stream media makes me want to barf so this is at-least a pleasant distraction...

At his request, these were part of his senior pictures taken last September. Hard to imagine what he'll be doing with it in a few years, but that will be (of course) his problem. By working on that '60 Dart project with him for the last two years, I'm at-least comfortable the he now has a basic understanding of the technology involved here (and what the limitations are). Not much of a legacy when you think about it, but better than nothing.
He still needs a haircut here. He's had one since.
Recent pic during 1st test drive.

Bought it two years ago and haven't done a lot. Replaced everything in the front and rear suspension. Upgraded to front disc brakes and 1 1/8 sway bar and new steering box. The car drives so much better now and I drove it a lot this past summer. In the spring the first thing will be to replace the exhaust. Next is the interior. I have the dash gauges out, new pad, and plastic piece removed to be painted. Console also has been cleaned up and painted correctly. Need to have the tail strip put on in the spring also. Seats and door cards are in good shape so I saved some cash there. Paint is the big obstacle, the car is a twenty footer at best, but the price of a paint job is crazy. I'll be poking around to find friend of a friend type paint job if any. This is the second '68 I've owned, the first in 1970 had it for 9 years and it was stolen and never recovered. To me,this has always been the best looking Mopar built, so this will be with me to the end, of me that is.
I had to move my car out of the garage to run a gas line to my kitchen the other day. After I'd started it, I was waiting for it to warm up a bit before moving it any further. Standing behind it on that very cold January day, the sound reminded me of so-many late nights after the bars had closed and I was making one last pass through the small town I grew up in before turning in. Inevitably, that included a whizz-stop in a secluded spot, behind the car and wreathed in clouds of exhaust smoke on the very-cold nights. Using the video function on my phone I created a very short (mp-3?) video (11 seconds). I had thought I could load that here but just couldn't figure how to make it work. Is there a way? The video on my phone sounds surprisingly good.

Can't get the sound to work...
Drove mine to work today and bonus (dropped my daughter off at school in it).
1st time driving it to work since I did the Hemi and NAG1 swap.
Runs great!

That's a really nice looking Charger. I'm wondering if the paint can be fixed rather than repainted? Just a thought!

How are you running the nag1?
I've got the Russell Drake (Sound German Automotive) controller with his tone-ring and 1 sensor.

Just saw this episode and it really brought back all my memories of when my car was being repaired after a bad accident. After bead blasting the entire body, my car looked very much like this & you really could see all the scars accumulated (& repairs) over the years and, of course, how these cars were assembled. This show is flatly idiotic at times but...you really get to see some stuff you never would otherwise.

The grill in my car now came from Tony's operation on Redbird Road back in 2008. I distinctly remember my conversation with him at that time, and asking him why it was so darn-expensive. His answer then was that "there aren't any good ones left". It won't be many-more years before they will all be impossible to redo without owning a junkyard full of donor cars like they do here.
I haven't posted the wheel upgrade. Those 18's I had on it were temporary.
I now have the American Racing Vector VN47 wheels on it.
15x7 front and rear (the 8.5 are still on backorder until end of year).
235-60-15 front and 275-60-15 rear tire sizes.
