Title: Let's call it a 426 small block.
Post by: heyoldguy on February 01, 2015, 05:13:34 PM
It's not really a 426 but it sounds better than 423.5, 4.042" bore and 4.125" stroke in a 360. BPE rotating assembly, 10.9:1, 91 octane, our ported ProComp cylinder heads, Super Victor intake, RS Race Demon 1050 cfm 4150 carburetor, TTI headers, our spec'd Comp solid roller w/165 psi cylinder pressure @ 5000' elevation.

Hey Old Guy.

That's a stunning result with a 360 motor!
Looks like 440's are history now!!!
Loving those Torque numbers too... :2thumbs:

Does this motor have any street manners, or is it a race type build?

It idles @ 800 rpm, was designed for a street driven 1967 Dart with 3.55 gears and an automatic transmission. There has been a delay preparing the car for the engine and for some additional work required to the motor to correct it's lack of performance.

So close to 600 horses. Any tuning left to squeeze the ponies out?

With what I've discovered it should pull over 600 pretty easy next time on the dyno.

That's a very impressible build.

So the owner sent it back to freshen it up.

Just a couple of changes.

(1) We replaced the aluminum heads with our ported LAX iron heads using a Chevy stud mounted rocker arm system with a girdle mounted to the cylinder heads.

(2) Changed the 1050 Demon for a 950 cfm Trick Flow.

It now makes 481 lb-ft a@ 3,000 rpm, the start of the dyno pull. 572 lb-ft peak @ 4,800 rpm and 603 HP @ 6,300 rpm. And it is still making 594 HP @ 6,600 rpm where we shut it off.

It is using a TCI 142200, 10" 3,000-3,500 stall. It actually was running 3.23 gears and we just installed a 3.91.

And, it is coming off the dyno, after some other corrections, with the two best pulls today of 618 & 620 horsepower.

Great numbers for a small block for sure!!! That's going to be a wild ride in a Dart, and I thought my big block was fast....  :2thumbs:
