Poll
Question:
Which color combo on my 69?
Option 1: white with red stripe
Option 2: blue pearl (2005 GM color)
Option 3: viper red
I posted this for fun in another thread and that got me to thinking, why not do a poll.
My car is a 318, non numbers matching, pro touring resto-mod type of build.
Thanks in advance for the opinions! :2thumbs:

A little back story on the color options:
WhiteandRed69 car is why i really like the white. No doubt his car is stunning
1974dodgecharger car (and others from google search) is why I like the blue
on the viper red I have always wanted to paint something this color ever since I saw it in person for the first time
A big plus for the white is the ease of care, I do plan to drive the car alot year round. (we don't have salty roads)
Blue pearl flat
I can say this for white, the car stays remarkably cooler in the sun! I'm in FL. and although B5 is totally my favorite color my "for now paint" color was white and I'm starting to think it may be staying white.
Try touching cars different colors with the palm of your hand, it's a big effect in the south! I noticed dark tinted windows do the same, they block the light but heat the interior like crazy! :o
I like my white car. :yesnod:
Candy Purple over silver base sounds good :scratchchin:
Another Vote for a blue of some sort !!! Its looks great on our cars !!
Which GM Blue exactly ? They have a lot
WA815K - would look amazing on a charger, with a black roof, or with out. And of course a black stripe !
WA403P - To dark in my opinion !
WA815K "Arrival blue" is what I had in mind. :2thumbs: When I was still in the body business we painted a truck that was this color and it really pops. :coolgleamA:
F8 Green! :yesnod:
Yeah, I don't drive during the day. Gotta wait till "golden hour"
Bight Blue !
Candy apple red :drool5: :drool5: :drool5:
So the interior is black? I googled that blue and yes that would be really nice!
pea green. :eek2:
Thanks for the comments, opinions, and pictures! :2thumbs: I'm still debating :scratchchin:
P.S. - In reference to the other thread this forum really is slower this year. Only 18 votes on a paint color poll. Thanks to all who did and will vote though!
I vote orange with a confederate flag on the roof.... :icon_smile_big:
Well you know what my vote was for. :icon_smile_big:
I will say though that sometimes I kinda wish I had more of a high impact color. I love the blue on 1974dodgecharger, dodgey68, MSracing89, and autodynamics cars. But I love the look of a clean white car.

I got a Gallon of Viper Blue from when I Worked at Viper painting place MascoTech. The Vipers are not painted by Chrysler but outsourced. The new Candy Red on the new Vipers will add a additional $10,000 to price tag for that Candy Red. My gallon of Viper Blue available if anybody is Interested, I already sold my gallon of Viper Red years ago. LEON.
Has Chrysler released the paint code yet for Stryker Red (the color of the candy apple red Viper). I've read a few Viper forums, and they say they can't get it yet. But, that was a couple years ago when it was discussed.

I got a Friend that is Manager/ Head Painter of Paint shop that is painting the Vipers. Can't answer that unless I talk to him or others in the know. LEON.
How can one gallon of paint cost 10K ? "The new Candy Red on the new Vipers will add a additional $10,000". :smilielol:
A gallon of Candy red does not cost $10,000. I never said that. I said $10,000 for the paint job, not the paint. It's all in the labor. I guess you never painted Candy before :scratchchin: LEON.

That's true, red is popular on these cars. That is one of the many reasons I don't want black, it looks awesome but extremely popular and more difficult to care for. To be fair blue is also very popular color, not as common as red though. But again, there is a reason all these colors are popular, they look good. :2thumbs:
White however is very unconventional, especially to change a charger to white from it's original color. :shruggy:
I live in rural Alabama and I am not aware of any other chargers close to me, of any color. So I guess popularity really isn't an issue with me anyway. :Twocents:
I am only 30 years old so ease of care is important to me over the rest of my lifespan. I keep thinking how easy it is to sling a buffer over white compared to any darker color (blue).
Still thinking! :scratchchin:

IF YOU WANT A CUSTOM COLOR FOR CHEAP GO TO WWW.DIPYOURCAR.COM - THEN GO TO THE PEARLS AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN USE THEM WITH PPG OR ANY OTHER BASE CLEAR SYSTEM, THEY ARE LIKE NO OTHER ON THE MARKET THEY ARE SUPERFINE AND COVER RAPIDLY. YOU HAVE TO MAKE THEM INTO BASECOAT FIRST. SO WHAT YOU DO IS GET A SAMPLE PEARL LIKE THE SUPER BLURPLE THEN YOU MIX UP A PINT USING HALF MIXING CLEAR AND HALF BASECOAT CONVERTER AND ADD THE PEARL IN. NOW YOU HAVE A SPRAYABLE PEARL BASECOAT THAT YOU CAN CLEARCOAT WIH AUTOMOTIVE CLEAR. tHE RUBBER DIP PAINT AND CLEARS ARE ALL REALY TOUGH AND YOU CAN PEL THEM OFF YOUR CAR AND CHANGE COLORS EVERY MONTH IF YOU WANT TO GO THE RUBBER SEMI GLOSS WAY.
BUT IF YOU WANT A STANDARD CUSTOM PEARL JOB JUST MAKE SOME BASECOAT AND DROP IN THE PEARL IT COVERS SO FAST AND FREEZES INTO PLACE ITS AMAZING THEN CLEARCOAT LIKE A STANDARD FACTORY PEARL JOB, AND THESE ARE THE MOST INEXPENSIVE PEARLS OUT THERE. BUY A LITTLE TRY A LITTLE.
Just don't paint it pea green. :Twocents:
Oooo, pea green is nice!
Green is out! I did consider silver very strongly at one time but that too is out now. When I first got the car (around 20 years ago) the plan was to build a general lee. Since then alot has changed with the build plan, 4 speed swap, lowered the car and upgraded suspension. I am adding some modern twist to the car and one of those will be the color. No offense to the purist, but after being in the auto body business you realize how inferior the colors were back in those days to what is offered now. Even if I go with white it will not be an original color. :shruggy: :Twocents:

Actually it isn't at all. You should see all the different whites lined up in a paint deck next to each other, some look tan, some yellow, ect. compared to actual white. And I'm not talking about pearls (tri coats) either. Seems a little crazy to have so many white options, but I suppose each manufacture want their own exclusive color. :shruggy:

that's true , been in body & paint 25 years , if you got all the car maunfactiures paint chips out & variants on each on a given color , plus the color map , there are millions of colors to choose from , like Garner7555 said , factor in three stage pearls & or with tinted clear coat , its endless , also got to include , making up your own color , just make sure you write down the formula , how many grams of each tinter , :yesnod:
Not to belabor the point but trying to understand. Wouldn't those other "whites" be off whites? I thought white and black were the only two pure ones and they technically weren't colors? One was the complete absence of color and the other was all colors in one or something like that?

Yes, in a sense they are "off white". And practically all white cars are some variant of off white. Even black isn't black, park a ford truck next to a GM, both black, the ford has a lot more brown in it. There are no true plain ol black factory colors hardly. That is what I was referring to when I said I wouldn't use the original white used on chargers, I would use a more "true white" than the factory off white. :yesnod: :2thumbs:
Okay, I'm getting it now. Thanks.
depending on what paint company , each one of them have a base mixing Black & a base mixing white , as well as many many other tinters on the mixing scheme , to produce the required color you need ,
every paint company's mixing scheme ive used , for mixing up paint , the base white , is real white pure white , & all the other whites you mix up on cars are , like what Garner7555 says , some whites will be , a blueish , yellowish , grayish , greenish , redish tinge to it , compared to the straight pure white of the mixing scheme , sames goes for the Black , the mixing scheme black is black black , :yesnod: :P by the time you mix up a car manufactures paint formula , it could be a blueish , brownish , grayish , yellowish black when compared to the mixing black !!

Exactly. It's alot easier to understand if you have mixed paint before. :2thumbs:
...and why red is the more expensive of colors...
Straying far from the topic but has any car maker ever used a pure white or pure black then?
ive mixed up paint from , Standox , ICI /Nexia ,PPG , Sikkens mixing schemes , the only one I can remember was a solid ford black , in sikkens 2k auto cryl system , i'm trying to think back 22 years , that had a straight 242 tinter black , then they changed formula or was a nother solid black with a different paint code , & it had a small amount of a light brown & white in it , it was negligible really so , we never use to bother with it & just use to use black straight off the scheme in sikkens auto cryl . the paint was still a perfect match & would paint edge to edge all the time in those blacks. white noo always had to mix it , just to complicate matters , on each paint manufacture , there would be many many different tinters to a complete mixing scheme & what line solid 2 k , 2 stage for base for base & clear , water base , & high solid , there would be a solid black , a transparent black , same for blue , brown , white , there are soo soo many tinters & binders , & aditives that go into a paint formula mix ( depending what one your using ) when I use to mix up these paints , would be rushing around late in the day to get something painted & would think FFS , the paint i'm trying to mix has 6 or 9 different tinters in it , & would seem to take hours mixing , especially if I had to change a tinter , & the color would be metallic black or silver , blue , would have red , burgundy transparent brown blue , bit of pearl green , or blue , fine & coarse metallic silver etc if your in a hurry or run out between coats , would be annoying especially near the end of the day :RantExplode:
the different tinters that go into all these car manufactures colors , i'm sure there is no real need , it just gives the car designer guys something to invent , strangly each paint company ive used , use similar color tinters although , use a different combination of them to produce the same car manufactures color :shruggy:
also going off track a bit , there are only a few solvent tinter colors with a strong enough pigment to be able to use straight out the tin , cant remember all of them & it varies from paint company to the next , switched to waterbase in 2000 , & its a different set of tinters with aditives again !
PPG 9700 is pure black & the only tint used in some paint code blacks. LEON.
yeah and they never match, straight blacks I mean. Most new cars blacks have some sort of tint in them. even when formula says straight black with no toners in them , you take freshly painted black door outside in blinding sun and the factory black looks brown compared with it.
Thanks for the feedback and opinions guys! :2thumbs: As confused as I am every little bit of help is appreciated! :yesnod:

...and why red is the more expensive of colors...
Reds are typically more expensive for couple reasons . The pigments that are used in a red can be just plain more expensive to produce , also a metallic red usually does not cover very well and will simply require more product ( paint) to complete the job . Hence inflating the cost .
A tri coat or candy effect as mentioned before will also add addition cost for the same reasons , more so it labour for these effects that really bump up the cost !
Well??! :shruggy:
You paint it or what?

I like the satin trend. Plus, you dont have to work it. (cut and buff)
Nobody does that on a Charger. Its all gloss... If I do it again it will be a medium dark pearl blue with a satin clear. Almost like a black pearl only blue.... :drool5: I can almost see those b-pillars now... :scratchchin:
I used the 1999 Dodge truck Intense Blue Pearlcoat with great results. Lots of compliments after 15 years on the same paint job. One other suggestion is to get your local body shop paint supply store to mix up a spray bomb of two with colours that you might like. Try them out on panels of your car, you're going to sand it down anyway, just to see what they look like. This is what helped my wife decide on her Charger. PB3 is the code.
Toward the beginning of this thread I never thought white would make a comeback. :scratchchin: :shruggy: :2thumbs:
