Title: 68 Superbird?
Post by: cudaken on August 16, 2013, 05:38:18 PM
I have all wise wanted a wing car, and if Janka had made me the parts for my old 69 Charger I would have had one! I was close!

http://s83.photobucket.com/user/cudaken/media/Mopar/winged.jpg.html](http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j284/cudaken/Mopar/winged.jpg)

Now I study Daytona's and know a lot about the Birds, but not as much. Couple of quick questions.

1 Is the deck lid the same as a normal 70 Road Runner?

2 Does a Bird use a normal 70 B body Satellite hood with just a extinction, I think it does?  :scratchchin:

Reason I am asking is I am  some cam 2 and daydreaming about making my 68 Road Runner into a Bird. I need quarter panels anyway, front fenders, well I can fix them but replacing them is not hard.

Biggest job (I would leave the stock rear glass for now) would be adding a 70 Taillight panel. Is opening the same sizes for the trunk? Are the rear bumper brackets the same sizes?

I am not worried about the dash, but I do prefer the 2nd Gen Charger / 70 Road Runner dash better.

Can anyone post a link for me for clone parts?

Like I said, I am only daydream for now, but you never know!  :scratchchin:

I know the superbird uses 70 coronet fenders and hood, not satellite. The decklid pretty sure satellite/rr/gtx regular trunklid was used on superbirds, with wing added.

Cool concept :drool5:  I don't think the 70 RR used the same decklid as the 68/69.  It should be completely different.

I just did and found this link.

https://www.americansportscar.com/

Then I said 1970 Superbird and found this link.

https://www.americansportscar.com/products/plymouth/superbird/1970

Open said link and got this?

https://www.americansportscar.com/products/1970-super-bird-body-kit

Sure looks like the AAR stuff I posted about, same text and same price!

Stuart, when you say takes a lot of work to make it fit, do you mean for the bolt holes line up? Or the parts to fit flush? Did you use them on your Slim Green Wing Thing Car? Sorry, but I see you get a lot of stuff about the color and could not stop my fingers from typing that! :shruggy:

Is Ted Janka a usable option now? Or does or still take months and months to get parts? I waited 12 months plus after I got my first batch Daytona parts before I gave up. Sad thing I had cash in hand for the project. Finally gave up and but on the 69 front clip. :'(

I got Ted's parts on mine, (with exception of my wing, it's real)...took forever to get them, and took "a lot of work" to get them to fit in an acceptable manner

...In addition to Ted Janak,  there is also "Showcars" here in Canada:  http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/superbird.html  I have heard thst there are fitment issues with Showcars pieces as well.  At least their tail is a 3-piece unit - unlike the Stinger version.

...Then there's what I was wondering - Does Don C. make any fibreglass pieces based on the outstanding metal work he does?

I think the Canadian Dollar is within 5 percent of the US Dollar these days.

As to the fitment of Showcar pieces, you might want to ask HemiRunner - I am pretty sure he had a bunch of their pieces on his project.

Thank you Light Horseman, where would I find Hemi Runner on the site?

There is also Glasstek...   http://www.glasstek.com/   They sell fibreglass Superbird fenders (FF027), bolt-on (H7054) and pin-on hoods (H7053).  I've heard that their stuff is really nice.

If anyone has a line on, or even better, an experience with quality fibreglass Superbird fenders, I'd love to know about it.  I continue to look for steel Coronet fenders, but all I seem to find in my area is rusted-out junk.
