Title: Daytona clone trunk hinges-Modified Aspen/Volare
Post by: Daytona R/T SE on March 05, 2018, 07:54:13 PM

The first picture is an original '69 Charger trunk hinge, along with one from an Aspen or Volare.

The second picture is of my Daytona trunk hinge made from parts of these cut and welded together.

I had to transfer the torsion bar ramp from the Charger hinge onto the modified hinge.

Several years ago when I did this, I had a full sized tracing of a Daytona/C500 trunk hinge that I used as a guide.

I'll be damned if I can find the drawing now.  :brickwall:

I'll also be damned if I can remember exactly where I cut and welded the hinges together. :brickwall:

With the drawing it was obvious where to cut and weld the hinges.

Does anybody have a set of Daytona/C500 hinges not installed in a car that they would be willing to trace ?

I'm sure 70 sublime would appreciate it.  ;)

I have a full size template/tracing of the Daytona trunk hinge that a member of the Wing Car Club sent me many years ago if you still need one.  I also have two pairs of standard 69 Charger hinges that I was going to convert.  I figured it was a lot easier just to buy a pair from Daytonalo and be done with it.......Let me know if I can help.......... :icon_smile_big:

Wow, can't believe the response I received from my offer.   I will mail the template to all those that asked..... hope it makes your build easier.   Going forward should anyone else need a copy, I would be happy to send a copy.... I just ask that you supply the postage.  I never thought that many members would need or want a copy.    Anyway glad I could help

The topic of Daytona trunk hinges has been mentioned here a few times recently.

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead to give a rough idea of how I made mine from a $10 junkyard set of Aspen / Volare trunk hinges.   ;)

Thanks for reposting your old thread.

Hey, do the originals you bought from me in November fit better?  :coolgleamA:

The key to proper fitment is the first 15" from the hinges...

Yes, I thought bringing this thread back up may be of some help.

I don't know how well my "new" hinges I got from you fit yet.

Those, and a few other parts I've been collecting will be used on my other "future" project.  ;)

Possibly....

But I have to actually accomplish something on my current long dormant project first.

Did anyone here receive a copy of the template from 'Wingcar'?

I'd love to get a copy as I'm working on a clone currently. Thanks!
