Title: 70 Roadrunner, should it have the same gauge cluster as a 68-70 charger?
Post by: Back N Black on July 24, 2023, 08:33:51 AM
A friend sent pics of a 70 Roadrunner that he is planning on buying. The gauge cluster looked liked a satellite cluster. Were both clusters used in the RR or maybe he should dig deeper on car numbers?

Start digging!  All 70 Road Runners came with rally gauges like the Chargers have. The vin # should start with RM for Road Runner. WINGNUT

The page at https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1970/70_Belevedere0025.jpg shows which came with which type.

The clusters do not interchange, the steel frames are different so he should definitely

My 70' Roached Runner has the same gauge cluster as both of my 70' Chargers do, except the Roached Runner's is black and the Charger's are woodgrain.

The '70 Chargers don't all have woodgrain appliques on the dash panel. Is that limited to the R/T and the SE models? The 500s didn't have those standard. Every one I've seen has this type:

Interestingly, I have a '70 Satellite - not a Sport, just a base Satty - that had been cloned into a Road Runner, and it has a rallye dash.  I'm not sure if it matters, but it is an original big-block (non HP 383) convertible.

I always have assumed that the guy who cloned it up went to all the trouble of swapping out the dash frame.
