Title: Superbird daily driver
Post by: 4spdwing on October 06, 2008, 07:44:04 PM
The transmission went on my 02 Jeep so I have been using my Superbird as my daily driver. I drove it all last week and now I am using my 69 383 Dart GTS. I am having a ball. I really didn't drive either one to much this year so this is fun. Tom

The Dart is B5 blue. You guys are fast. Here are a couple of pics.    I really need to drive them more. The only problem with the Jeep is it's going to be about $2500 to fix. Tom

I have had a few great offers on the Superbird. People think I am crazy for not selling.  I always wanted one since the early eighties. I bought the car in 1999 with some help from nascarxx29. Dave has always been a big help

No Larry, Sorry I don't know the car. I actually bought this car in 1984, sold it in 95 and bought it back in 99.

I remember the green car the rad support was pushed back a little.I also remember the 69 340 GTS convert that sat in Merchantville.Until someone I knew bought it.Tom hold on to the wingcar .There easy to sell and hard to affordably replace.Have you seen the destroyed one from E town NJ on ebay are what these wrecks are going for.Back when you got yours they were not six figures. We both got good deals on our wingcars  .Were not likely to see ever again. There was a club called DARTS I sent buildsheet and etc from a rare triple green on green stripe 69 340 GTS Dart I parted out that was very rusty think it was Joel Cooper that ran the club .He was asking me were the rest of that rare car was.I sent it to him in a envelope this is all I saved

I'm afraid I would be terrified to drive a wing car daily.  I can't imagine the people snapping their necks to get a glance of the wing car parked next to the VW jetta in the super market parking lot :scratchchin:

Not a bad couple of cars to fall back on when the daily driver takes a nose dive. Had to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago here. The transmission on our 98 Avenger took a crap and so for 3 days I drove the 500 in to work. The guys I work with thought I was nuts. Then finally got the Intrepid back from the parents, and am now using it to go to work. I did like driving  the 500 more though, but man the gas money wasn't easy on the wallet.

Sweet ride!

Always noticed that tires and gas seem to go ALOT faster on the charger then with the daily driver

Thanks for the comments guys. Driving a wing car you can't drive down the street without people turning and looking. I even drove the car to Best Buy to return something. They really are fun to drive.    :icon_smile_big:

Ah

Well im working with a 6 Cy 95 nissan pathfinder as my daily. On the other hand if i take moms chebby 2500 out (dont worry guys my Ram 2500 pickup is with pops in Florida) gas seems to go quickly but i save her tires...gotta love the locker on that thing though.

Heres the Ram 5.9

tire wear isn't anywhere near the issue it was when I was younger...a $900 tire bill for the 'stang will cure that!  (275/40/ZR17 Kumho Ecsta MX--KILLER tires)

the B5 'bird's tires are shorter in the rear than the front, though, so I might not be telling the whole truth  ;)

What is GTS Dart? I have always wondered. Probably a stupid question though. :scratchchin:

It would be awesome to have a daily driven wing car clone. Let me think...
5.7L Hemi gets okay gas mileage...... :scratchchin: :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

sure it's a stupid question!

j/k...i really like Darts, though.  the GTS package was kind of like the R/T package for Darts.  you had engine choices of a 340, 383hp or a 440hp (in 1969.)  you could also get a 340 with the Swinger package.

google to know more.  A bodies are cool.

HEY...I love A bodies. :drool5:

1968 SS Darts are my favorite. Followed close behind by 1971 Demon, 1969 Cuda, 1971 Valiant, and 1973 Scamp. :drool5: :drool5:

73 Skamp ?????? I would rather walk or give it to a 90 year old !!!!

The 71 Valiant isn't so long on style either but if you wanted to build something quick and sneaky, those are a couple of good choices.  Then again Wing, you can't expect folks in the aero car forum to be much into subtlety or blending in to the background.

Nice bird, there seems to be a fairly high number of wing cars in Jersey, but you never see them.

Okay. If you had to choose between a daily driven Daytona, or Superbird, which one?
The only bad thing I see about the Superbird is the vinyl roof would rot out the roof.

Would have to pick the Daytona over the Superbird any day of the week, but my opinion is biased.

I loved going for rides in my dad's Daytona's and the red with white interior car was the on he drove back and forth to work each day.
