Post by: moparstuart on August 23, 2009, 04:00:38 PM
I have been collecting components to make the birdible a  three speaker dash and make the AM 8 track look correct .

can any one get me mesurements to cut holes for my speaker covers ?

I hit the jack pot in minnesota this year at mopars in the park  got my speaker grille for 20.00 , and several tranformer boxes and a spare wiring harness for 50.00

Do you have a regular AC dash that you'd want to trade for a 8 track dash?

Alright, I have the dash out and can get you some measurements. I'll swing by the shop tomorrow and get them and if nobody has the measurements by then I'll post them when I get home in the morning.

I forgot I had a dentist appt right after work.  :eek2:   Anyway, I hope you can make heads or tails out of this. My drawing is a little out of proportion too.  :P

Speaker holes are 3-3/16 across, The holes for the cover are smaller than 1/8 inch and on 2.765 centers and square. The two holes nearest the windshield are in line with the edge of the holes for defroster ducts. Not with the actual hole, but where the hole recesses in for the covers.

The 10-1/8 and 9-15/16 from the speaker cover holes to the defrost hole is going to the actual cutout for the defroster ducts.

It seemed odd that they are different measurements from the edges of the ducts to the closest hole from one side to the other but I double and triple checked them.

The 6.075 and the 6.245 measurements are with the dash out so they really wont help you much.

Glad I could help. Now, I just gotta buy an 8 track player or find a standard dash that has AC. My car is a 318 with a 3 speed on the tree and had only one option on it, an AM Radio. I bought the dash because it was an A/C dash. I plan on adding a few options to it (A/C, 440 and an A512) but I'm not sure if an 8 track is one of them... Time will tell.  :scratchchin:

I have a core 8 track radio , it will look good in the dash but never work .  Just stick and 8 track tape in it for looks and put aftermarket radio under the dash .              225.00 for it

Thanks but that's a little too rich for my blood for a non working unit. I'm sure it would look good but if I go that route I'd probably go ahead and spend the money for a working one and all the goodies.

That's some pretty good music you found there. I have "Days of future past" on vinyl along with 5 or 6 other Moody Blues albums.

Break in on this old post but I have a related question.

I'm converting my standerd dash into a 3-speakerdash at the moment. Speakers, harness and 8-track player are in, now the crossoverbox needs to get in.

I know this box is somewhere behind the glovebox. Anyone got a pic where it is located? Thanks in advance.

Serge

I can't offer a picture, but I can tell you where it sits. It is screwed to the right top of the glove box liner. The cardboard liner has two holes punched out so you can lay the crossover box on top of the box and the screws go through the liner into the metal of the crossover. Hope this helps, WINGNUT

Got the glovebox out and the holes are there. Crossover doesn't line up with the holes.

Is my crossover not an 1969 model perhaps? Or are the holes in the wrong place in the aftermarket glovebox?

Your crossover has a 1970 date code. From what I remember, my crossover in my 69 Charger is wider. Pete

Little late to the party here but I have an under dash unit and getting to the dash speaker is a nighmare! so I wired those lil' 3x5's under the dash on drivers side and inside the dick panel on pax side. now it sounds like crap but its an 8-8track so there's no real expectation of quality anyway
on a related note just yesterday bought these off FB market place. I just wanted the RUSH tapes but found a bunch of good one. might be willing to let the Englebert Humperdinck tapes go cheap lol
