Title: 727 Tailshaft housings
Post by: NickJ on December 12, 2022, 03:15:47 PM
Good Afternoon all,
Does anyone have the part numbers for the different tailshaft housings. Also, any good suppliers for the housings? I currently have a 727 out of a truck with the short tailshaft. Need to try and locate the correct housing for a 69 Charger with console. Several years ago I helped a buddy swap the transmission on his 66 Charger and we had to swap tailshaft housings to accommodate the console linkage.  Thanks!

You'll need both the tail housing and the output shaft. The trucks didn't have the necessary "ears" at the bottom of the housing for the floor shifter bracket, cars did. You can find both on E-bay or maybe a local transmission shop.

Thank you for the response. I don't plan on using the truck transmission. I just wanted to either find the correct tailshaft housing or ensure the transmission that I order comes with the right one. I figured if I had the parts numbers I could ensure I get the right housing.

Highlighted in blue is a common passenger car tail housing part number up through 1972 or so. This number will not be found on the housing.
