Title: Nova Scotia Daytona Charger
Post by: Magnumcharger on July 21, 2009, 08:03:22 PM
I finally made it out to Nine River, Nova Scotia to see the Daytona Charger rumored to be in a barn there.
Well, I'm 5 months late apparently. The barn it was in is still full of interesting part$, but the Daytona is long gone.
The former owner tells me it made it out to a new home in Ontario.

So, you winged warrior guys....who has it?

I would have to say no. The one from this barn was sold only 4-5 months ago.

Nope, that's another Daytona, from the US of A.

It sat in the barn for quite some time. That was the one that a kid going to King's Collage had in the mid 70's. I had heard it was on the dealer's lot for nearly 2 years before selling. Didn't think the Nine Mile River owner would sell it - but then I never thought he'd sell the Coronet either.

The man in question spoke about your old Coronet Mike. It's a small world. He still has the "replacement" engine for it in his barn.
See this thread:

The Daytona was sold as a result of a divorce, and as it was explained to me, the need to provide for college tuition for two kids. I'd say that probably did the trick.

I'd heard some of that story from a friend of a friend type of deal. The Daytona was in pretty hard shape when I last saw it. Haven't seen the owner in some years.

*EDIT* - in response to the shipping list you just posted - I' say the one in Nine Mile may have started life as the Halifax Chrysler Dodge one.

Just talked to a local "Mopar old timer", who actually remembers seeing the two Daytonas sold locally. Apparently, one was F6 Green, and the other was Hemi Orange (or red).
And he was infinitely familiar with the Copper one in the barn as well.
In his words, he thinks it came from a place called "Fall River" in the late 1970's. Where it originated from, and the VIN is still a mystery.
As far as condition, the reason it languished in the barn for so long was that it desperately needed a donor car for some of the critical body panels.
Ironically, the seller decided to let the car go at almost exactly the same time that the AMD panels became available!

I thought the copper one in the barn was the one that sold at BJ a few yrs ago? Sheesh with only a dozen or so T5's you'd think this would be easy.

All I know is...
The Daytona in the barn was a Canadian Daytona, so it was 414XXX. The barn is the same one I was just in.
Said Daytona had been in the barn for a LONG time.
Same Daytona was just recently pulled out of the barn (like 8 months ago).
And this Daytona is now somewhere in Ontario, Canada.

Your car was sold at Dodge City (now defunct) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
You might want to talk to Mike Collins (6pkrunner) who posted above. Not only is he living in the area, he might have a bit of background on it.
Also, Sandy Colter (sandy.colter@ns.sympatico.ca) is the local mopar guru with recollections of all things winged in the Halifax/Dartmouth area.

That'd be quite interesting if 402975 turns out to be a hemicar.  Both the Dealer Shipments and the Dealer Invoice lists show it to be a 440 car - but the original Broadcast Sheet would tell the "real" story.

Hey great meeting you at Moparfest Magnum. Your pictures turned out great and thanks for posting them.
The weather was great all weekend and I didn't have to wash the cars after the show, as I have in the past from dust or rain.
It was awesome to meet people from out East who actually new of the car or the owner before me.
Great to see Discotona in the arena. Maybe you have some pics. of it also.

In my past years of owning wing cars I determined that the serial numbers of Daytonas delivered in Canada new appear to have serial numbers in sequence. The lower numbers are from Eastern Canada and as you go west the numbers get higher . I know this since I have serial 656 sold new in Regina Sask, serial 655 was sold in Saskatoon Sask. I also believe i have the last highest serial number (667) which was sold in Victoria BC. I have seen some of the lower serial numbers and they were eastern Canada. I have also tracked all from serial 655 to my car 667 inclusive. If the reports of 50 new to canada are right and past experience shows the serial numbers were in order , the start serial (lowest serial) might be in the 610 range.  I believe that the daytona lists would probably answer this. I was told in the past the Canadian cars were clones because lots have the standard black 3 spoke wheel. Well i have a build sheet for one car and also both have standard black wheel.
