i do this with my comp (it doesnt take up much processing power at all). its a program that you download and install on your comp that retrieves data from berkley.edu, and other research facilities, and allows your computer to process the information received from the SETI satellite dishes. Many people do this to help out with the computing power to enable a faster turn around of data back to the research scientists. It doesnt cost anything for you. I have been doing this for a while now and have noticed no ill-effects on my computer. simply voluntary.

that is pretty cool, i think i will join that one too. i run my comp all night doing the seti thing, so another program will not hurt it.

Thats a cool deal. I joined up. Running 2 process's. Einstein is beating on my Quad Core real frickin bad. Never seen this computer hit 100% on all 4 cpu's and its there. Holds at 100% and then backs off some then back to 100%.

I'm still trying to fine some intelligence here on Earth!
What is there to gain from this? I did this a lot of years ago because I thought it was cool, but finally realized you never hear about anything that comes from it.... other than they use your computer at no cost to them.
I don't like Seth Shostak. Nothing personal. Did this years ago, but for what? We built and operate a 12.5" binocular telescope that goes 800x. Even had a sighting while our son was spotting Messier objects for us. (A traveling blob of burning magnesium.) Kids have better eyes. Gonna hit Glacier Nat'l Park now that it's gone Dark Sky Site and gets upward of 700 for their viewing event.
