Title: Re: 1969 Daytona SE
Post by: THE CHARGER PUNK on January 15, 2007, 02:47:40 AM
F8 dark metallic green , it had no a black tail stripe, the nose and wing were stolen in the 70's, it had a repop grey fiberglass nose and wing, its interior was beat 2 hell, paint was scratched and dulll, bodys had dents, rust and oxidized, but the guy drove it to the show under its own power by its VVVERY DIRTY but original 440 :yesnod:-MATT

BTW i saw this car in 2005 and it was my first wing car i ever saw and it was a daytona se with a mod top :icon_smile_big:

(also it was at the mopar madness show in BC in 2005 so if anyone else was there you woulda seen that car)

I'm pretty sure that offer was made back when all of this started.  In any case, it should all be over sometime in the next 60 minutes. :icon_smile_big:
Title: Re: 1969 Daytona SE
Post by: 69_500 on January 19, 2007, 05:27:54 PM
So lets see here, it takes the average person approximately 17 minutes to walk 1 mile. So if he walks 10 to the store, and 10 back, lets give him about 340 minutes. So in less than 6 hours he should be home.

Walk 10 miles to the drugstore?   No public transportation where you live?   No rollerskates?  No bike?  No carservice?  No friends to give you a ride?

Watching a movie was more important than getting the "pics"?  sheesh........ :rotz:

I looked on the web for a link as too who may own this *mod top* Daytona now, but I didn't find any info. if the car actually existed, don't you think Galen would have informed the web site here or someone who is friends w/him here, say nascarxx29, hemigeno, Chris, Troy. If I missed the link w/the info. I'm sorry, but I found nothing about the car existing.

Edit:
Charger Punk, you have to understand were we're coming from here. You not being able to provide us w/photos,let alone anyone else talking about such a rare car which you said you would a while ago, now its until you have a scanner set up, whats your next excuse gonna be? Still a long ways off till 2028. so I'm not holding my breath quite yet.

As far as the statement of who Galen is buddies with. I don't really know if any of those people listed would be considered buddies of Galen's. I would say that Dave has probably had the most interaction with Galen over the years. I've only talked to the guy a handful of times.

What so special about those?   :shruggy:

I see about three every day on my way to work.

There is one that even has a flower on the side of the wing.  It looks like one of those flowers that were stuck on the bottom of bathtubs in the '70's to prevent slipping while in the tub.  The guy that drives it wears a digger hat, a poncho and ratty lookin' jeans that are tucked into his cowboy boots.

not  sure :-\ but i think one like it or the same one has been on here . with the picture taken much later than the one i posted , the charger was more weather beaten / rotted  plus  some of the trees & bushes were not there, can't remember any thing positive  for sure  :-\ .

a  rare mod top  surfaced on  moparts ,  it was either a  roadrunner or a superbee , A12 440 six pack lift off hood car . or it could of been a 70 model ,verified vin tag . can't remember for sure witch :-\ the car had been in a big wreck ,but i am pretty certain it is going to be restored

Now that one I could believe.  I would think it would have been a '69 Superbee, since the Satellite was the Plymouth B-body supposedly offered with the M/T (not the 'Runner), and '70 ModTops appear to have been limited to E-body Cuda/Barracudas.  From what I've seen, there's no reason a '69 Bee could not have been spec'd with the M/T and the A12 package.  That would be one rare car, especially if the fender tag still existed that proved the car's heritage.

Couple things:

First, my apologies to the actual owner of this Daytona (she's a beauty and doesn't deserve this ;)).  Secondly, thanks to Chris and the 69' Charger registry from which I stole the image.  Thirdly - to any outside parties reading this....IT'S A FAKE.  Fourthly, thanks to Pocketthunder for the ModTop website( :2thumbs:).  Thanks to Brock for the "Nessie" idea.  (sorry Brock, I couldn't find a decent pic of Daytona by a lake so I had to compromise).  Also thanks to guys in monkey suits who have been fooling the world for years...you're my heroes and you still make me laugh.

And finally, don't ever ask for any more mod top photoshops ( :icon_smile_dead:).  What a pain in the arse.... :icon_smile_wink: :yesnod:

The mod-top A12 is a legit car.
Would this car be from Ont? I talked to a guy from there a few years back and he told me he had a F6 mod top and I believe he said it was an original 6 pack car.
:yesnod:   i belive it was F8   :yesnod:

Shortly after this pic was taken, the suspension was stripped off and then it was picked up with the forklift and dumped in an irrigation pond.  That isn't the original color (it was a dark green).  It was a 383, automatic, console shift with Ramcharger hood.  I still have the fender tag.  That's the pic you wanted isn't it?  The pond has been filled in but as I said, if you want a pic of the pond as it exists today, I'll drive out there one day and take a picture of the spot.

It was but that's about 1979 or 1980 and it was rusted out in the trunk floor.  Today, you would easily restore but back then I had just bought a 68 Road Runner for $75 so I stripped the Dodge.  I had all of 200 or 250 dollars into it.  Those were the days, huh?  Back when it was cheaper to get another one than it was to fix the one you had.
In hindsight, not my best automotive decision but from an investment standpoint, I should have hung on to the 71 340 Challenger convertible or the AAR.  :icon_smile_wink:
Imagine how much money an F8 1969 Daytona SE with a Mod Top would be worth though.   :D

Hey bronze, you oughta do a search on this subject before assuming that this thread is the only reason we're a little jaded when it comes to taking ChargerPunk's word for the existence of this mythical unicorn... ummm, I mean, Mod Top Daytona.

Just a few excerpts from past threads where Matt has been talking about this car but has yet to produce pictures:

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on December 06, 2005, 10:21:29 PM
at a mopar show earlier this summer there was a beat-up 69 all original f8 green daytona SE with black interior and stripe, earlier on in life it had its nose and wing stolen  so now it wears a cheesy primered gray nose cone w/ out headlights and a black wing. neway the car has all that gluey shit all over the roof and has parts of the trim on it which indicates it wore a vinyl top at one time my buddy tells me it was amod top vinyl roof car-MATT

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on December 21, 2005, 05:58:57 PM
well i will get pics of the 69 se F8 daytona i took pics but cannot find them-MATT

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on January 22, 2006, 06:18:00 PM
actually i belive there were more like 5 daytona se's built i have persoanlly seen 1 and it was an unrestored f8 green model with a/c,2nd one i saw on the net was again f8 green and was for sale and i think still is on some site(ill look 4 it),and the last one was i think f3 or f5 green and is featured on the net somewhere 2, a guy i know whos buddy owns a restored r4 daytona se that originally came with a factory mod-top and i have no info on #5-MATT

NOTE:  In the above thread, the mythical Mod Top car is now a restored R4 RED Daytona SE   :rotz:

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on March 08, 2006, 07:55:52 PM
i do but ill have to find em and upload em,btw car is very rough and is missing its nose cone as it was stolen in the 70's it now wears a fiberglass primer shell repro nose, also this car was had a dealer installed mod top and wears some of the trim still-MATT

NOTE:  At least in the reply above, Matt does call it a "dealer installed mod top"

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on March 09, 2006, 05:32:01 PM
film is still in camera and will get developed very soon, mod top is gone but traces of it are still there and parts of the rare vinyl top xx29 trim is still and yes it is an se as there was the big SE decal on the roof and i looked at the dash to see the infamous xx29-MATT p.s. gimme a week tops and the pic of that car will be here.

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on October 03, 2006, 03:35:50 PM
since sumhow i have 1000 posts  now ,guess i had a bit 2 much fun last night and posted somthing, so i can post now, but i have pics of a mod top daytona f8 green se that need 2 be developed, will get em as quick as i can-MATT

Quote from: THE CHARGER PUNK on October 12, 2006, 07:48:45 PM
i just dont have money 2 get those pics developed, and my dad dont wann spend cash to get em developed either, but when i do get em done im gonan scan and get um up here for the whole charger world 2 see that the punk without a charger was RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :icon_smile_big:-MATT

Add in all the continued insistence in this thread, and I think even the most lenient observer would have to conclude that we've been more than patient under the circumstances.  Honestly, we should have told Matt a long time back to put up or shut up.  We're trying to say that in a nice way in this thread, but it's hard to say diplomatically.

Like I said Bronze, do some homework before making the assumption that we're all just dogpiling on Matt for the fun of it... well, it might be a little fun...   :D

Or, since today is his 18th birthday, why don't the two of you find someone to buy you beer, get loaded, find some girls, locate a Daytona, take blurry pictures of it with the girls posed naked on top of it, then go kick in a Staples window, steal a scanner, get the photos developed in a 1 hour deal at the local WalMart, dash out with the photos without paying for them after someone puking on the counter as a diversion, and then wreck the getaway car during a really bitching police chase.
We still wouldn't have pics of a Mod Top Daytona but just think what an awesome tale you guys would have to tell on here and it would all be true!

Days since Matt first mentioned this car on DC.com (not counting the mentions on the former D-C.com):

441

Percentage Chance of seeing the pictures anytime soon:

Zero

Having the opportunity to constantly remind CP about this:

Priceless...

;D

Here's a calendar to help us keep track of the days while we're waiting for the pictures:

Now the only question is, will this thread become like those in the comic section, and post in this thread not count as a regualr post?

One of these days when I'm closing in on 50 someone might come up with some photo's. Only if they photoshop them now, them let them weather the next 22 years outside, so they appear to be 65 years old.

I believe the car you are talking about is 414624.  We were just talking about that car on Saturday.  It has some kind of snake skin roof on it and is an F6 car if I remember correctly.

414630 has been owned by the same guy since the late 70's.

I knew Chris was on the dark side but Ghoste? you two?   :rotz:

I like 69 GTO's. I might even get one, one day. :P

Yup I do, not that I really give a damn if it really existed or not. Don't get me wrong I like wingcars but one with a mod top, uhm I don't know. I would just like to know how this thread ends. It would actually be kinda sad to see it die, it has come such a long way.

BTW I sorta have a bit of a feeling on how this is going to end...

Yeah, those conversions to CD take forever, don't they? I once spent 3 weeks trying to make one.

Still not sure why you didn't go to your local Kinkos and just have them do it in 30 seconds?

Lets check with the mods and see if a time line extension is allowable by the rules?

Isn't that a 15 yard penalty?

You know, I bet Daytonalo could have built a better mod top SE Daytona in the amount of time that its taken you to get pics of it. And it would look better too.

Bronze  it is a  69  look at the inner fender mounting plate that bolts to the core support with the hood rubber bumper on it  . or a 70 with 69 front end sheet metal , as (hemigeno) mentioned no rear window plug = no XX29 charger.

Well unless it was an RT/SE. Then it might have been worth a little conversation But not 4000+ views to a thread.

Well come on now people, don't ya know that oxygen screws up film? I mean look at what it did to the magazine industry, screwed that up didn't it? Oh wait that was something different.

I guess I know now why some of the film I developed by myself in HS didn't turn out so well now, it wasn't the mixture of chemicals, or the fact that I was in a dark room without any light, and fumbling around with objects. It was because I didn't extract all the oxygen from the room and put on my diving suit and resporator and enter the room.

I knew I should have paid more attention in those photography classes in HS, and college.

No need to make a model, when we have this (which is on page THREE of this unbelievably useless thread):

The train wreck pics are getting old real fast....however, at least you guys are posting pics of what you want us to see. That's more than the CPunk has done.

ps- CP lives on google, youtube, etc. You guys think he searched for hours/days trying to find a Daytona that he could pass off in this thread so he could be the hero?  :scratchchin: I'm betting he did.  :P

You'd think that, but it didn't happen -- which is what my objection has been to C/P's whole premise that a ModTop Charger (much less a Daytona) was ever produced by Chrysler.  There's just no evidence that it was even available.  Don't forget that the roof of a Charger or a Daytona would have been longer/bigger than a Coronet's.  Even if someone ordered a replacement ModTop with the intention of retro-fitting it to a Charger/Daytona, chances are that there would not have been enough material to cover the roof, sail panels and rear window area.  Coronets really did have short sail panels - sorta Road-Runnerish.

Oh, and here's my train wreck picture - from May of '69 no less!

Yeah, but what kind of example/precedent would I be setting?  Worse yet, my Dad still works in the office.  Even though I own 100% of the stock in this company, he's not shy about giving me what-for.

Well, if there weren't so many posts about locking it, this thread would drop into DC.com oblivion on its own.

One other thing to consider -- I don't want CPunk to think for a second that the pressure is off if the thread gets locked down.  I'd rather it be lurking out there, as a constant reminder of the need to stop the BS Railroad and get some proof of the claims we've heard for so long.

For now I'd rather keep it alive, and if y'all resist the urge to post on this thread it will drop down the pages.  CP can always post the blurry, "ruined" pics from the car show he claims to have seen this car at - with a lime green blob in the background - to partially corroborate his claims.  Something tells me we'll be waiting a while for those pictures too.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.  Really...

not a real modtop, as the material is different and was added to this real S.E. Daytona, so indeed Chargerpunk MATT is vindicated.

Yep but your sort of behind on the story. We found out the SF one was the modtop car a few months ago...

Didnt see the SF car and that retro picture connection. The SF cars roof showed no evidence of a prior top.And going by the picture the roof was entirely body color. But if the picture was from the same person. That top had been removed and the car painted .Though it seemed like the underhood paint was newer .And the rest of the car worn and faded.

Matt (THE CHARGER PUNK) posted saying he saw a '69 Daytona SE with a modtop at a car show. He said he had pictures of it that needed to get developed. For a long time, he kept making up excuses why the pictures werent getting developed. Then he said he dropped the pictures off. Then he said he didnt drop them off. Then he actually dropped them off and then it took him forever to get the pictures (he kept making up more excuses). Finally at the end, he said the pictures got wrecked by the photo guy. Nobody believed that he saw a modtop Daytona..until that picture and the car popped up.

... and complete paint around the top of the window plug, which was applied at Creative Industries (wouldnt' be necessary if it was "intended" for a V-top).  I also think I recognize the adhesive residue pattern from that stick-on moulding as being from the stuff normally used at Joe's Customized Cars and Pool Cleaning Services.   :P

Yes.

If you read the whole thread, Matt (CHARGER PUNK) said he saw a beat up green 69 Daytona with a modtop at a car show a few years back. His pictures got destroyed and nobody believed him.

The pictures of the 'green car with no glass and a home-made ModTop" IS the car Matt saw at the show.

Because this one looks black to me...

...and this one looks green. :scope:

Or is it just my monitor? :shruggy: They both appear to possibly have very similar rust areas though, so I guess I could see it being my monitor...although the green one DID grow a passenger mirror & the daytona lettering is more buggered up.

Not to mention a wing, different tires and a door moulding.  The one looks like an old pic though which could help explain the color mismatch and a lot can happen to a car over the years.

I don't count putting snow tires on a car driven in Canada as all that much of an oddity - heck, Jim M.'s survivor F5 Daytona purchased from Missouri had snow tires on it when he pulled it from it's 20+ year storage place.  These were "just cars" back then, and when you lived up north, that's just what you did to get around.

Oh, and it's the same car in both pictures.  The former owner of that F8 Daytona (Steve) had emailed that picture to me and a couple other people back when the SF Craigslist ad first came out.  He assured me that the car has always been F8, never black, as I asked him the same color question just to be safe.  Old pictures from the '70s & early 80s do darken up like that, so it's not all that unusual.

The "greener" looking car is not the same car as the mod top. I have seen the mod top in person and it indeed is the real deal and is NOT a dealer installed top. It came factory and there is solid evidence and statements from workers at the dealer that saw the car come off the truck from the factory to the dealer. The original company that made the vinyl for all of the mod top cars has verified that this different pattern was designed by them and they still have swatches of it.
The car is presently in Ontario and is under going a full resto. By the way the paint is not black it is a very dark green and is factory.

Don't know - but I do know this. When I bought the other Vancouver SE years and years ago (665) I also bought a bunch of spare parts that were stolen off of this car (666)....like a nose, wing, decklid, rear glass, latch tray and some other stuff. I understand the stuff was stolen off the car when it was parked outside a body shop for months - if not years. At the time I didn't know what car they were from and I certainly didn't know the stuff was stolen off of it years before. When he was over at my place a few weeks ago he was like - wow, there's my decklid. there's my rear glass etc.  :icon_smile_big:  He has since replaced all that stuff.

That car sat at the body shop, outside in the elements right up against the chain link fence, for well over 5 years. I used to drive by it almost every day after work to see if it had moved and one day I noticed the wing was missing and the deck lid & rear window. I didn't know about the nose cone being gone until the day we all went to see it at an auction held to dispose of vehicles left behind by their owners. The 3 of us went together on the purchase and bought it for $1200 with only 1 other bidder interested. It sat for many more years in a carport. I gave up my share on the car, regrettably but I couldn't keep every Mopar I had. I can't wait to see the pictures of the finished product, my heart will be happy. I remember there was a car dealership plaque attached to the trunk lid and was sold by Johnston Motors in New Westminster, BC. The engine ran when we got it back to the garage and we drove it down the back lane just to see how it felt. It was sickening to not have a wing or nose or trunk lid. Just up the road from the old body shop I found a mint shape orange Daytona. I asked if it was for sale but the fellow said 10 grand. I didn't have that much money at the time but later found out he sold it for 5 grand! I was floored. It was a 440 automatic with a black interior. The car was brand new in every way and this was back in about 1977. Ah, the memories!
