I have sandblasted my 69 charger and sprayed in epoxy primer.
On the seam between roof and rear quarter was only some putty.
What will be the best way to fill this, with lead or good putty/metall filler?
By using the lead the metall will be distort, the putty will crack in the long term?
what are your experiences?

Cut a strip of steel approx 18 gauge (.046) weld it in flush, finish off like any other "patch" repair panel..... avoid fillers :Twocents:

I agree this would be best. But I thought USC ALL METAL was the product to use anywhere factory lead was used. That is after welding up the joint.
I just came across another product called marine tex that someone on another forum recommended and has used for a long time and has NEVER failed, but has seen ALL METAL fail.
I am doing this right now and don't want issues down the road

I have read somewhere vinyl top cars were filled with bondo while non vinyl top cars were with lead. My 74 was filled with lead thought being a vinyl top car, but since my top is halo top and gets that area partially painted, sound logical being filled with lead. BUT by Charger was assembled in Venezuela, not in USA.

I have used USC All-Metal for the seam area. No cracks. Lasts for many years. Back in 89 , in preparation to replace the vinyl top I used UCS All-Metal to fill the seam. Fast forward to 2018, replaced the vinyl top because it was dried out. I dug out the All Metal I put in in 89. Found no corrosion in the seam area. Cleaned everything up, re applied the All-Metal. All good.

It was 30 years ago when I was using it, all I can remember was something like loss of adhesion or peeling so I stopped using it. LEON.
I used all metal on mine back in 2005 when I was getting rid of the vinyl top. It hasn't shrunk, warped, cracked or moved in the years since.
My car has been on body job since some years now and quarters were removed maybe 6 years ago for a deep job out of the car and the factory lead filler was perfect. The problem was down the lead thought since misteriouslly the shop found the overlapped panels area got some rust.

That sounds more like the rust has come through from the other side of the joint
When the factory sticks them together I do not think anything is done on the inside of the lap to prevent rust from starting :rotz:
Yeap, mostly sure it is. But you could think with heat applied the lead will spread all around anyway giving some protection layer even between overlapped panels. When I'm making wiring and some electronic parts fixing, the lead spreads all around the heated areas.
I can't give details on the rust deep or damage since I didn't see it personaly ever, but the body shop told me. They could fix and reattach the quarters back to the car, so I guess wasn't something really to worry about.
