Hi all. Rebuilding the AM/FM radio in my Charger with modern internals.
The clear plastic part that goes over the radio dial is badly cracked. Anyone know of a source for another?
Thanks.
I am hoping you will do a how to thread on this! :yesnod:
Apart from finding another radio for parts I don't know of any sources, but how about making one from Plexiglas or Lexan or something? Would that be doable or is it not a flat piece?
You might check and see if this guy can make a new tuner cover http://jmpalmquist.home.comcast.net/~jmpalmquist/Inventory.htm (http://jmpalmquist.home.comcast.net/~jmpalmquist/Inventory.htm). If not maybe someone who restores older auto radios like http://www.joesclassiccarradio.com/Resto.html (http://www.joesclassiccarradio.com/Resto.html), http://www.southtexasantiqueelectronics.com/home.html (http://www.southtexasantiqueelectronics.com/home.html) or http://www.bobsradio.com/ (http://www.bobsradio.com/) may be able to help with a source.
Thanks for that, I will try those sources. The piece is not a simple shape or I would make it myself.
A local antique radio place is doing the conversion for me. Putting modern internals inside with a more powerful amplifier, plus an external lead to connect an MP3 player. While still looking exactly the same from the front. This way I can use a modern stereo speaker in the front that fits in the 4"x10" enclosure, plus two 6"x9" speakers in the back. Not cheap at $500 or so, but the best solution I could find for originality & a decent sound.
Will be like this when you are done http://www.vintageautoradio.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=342&category_id=4&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=67 (http://www.vintageautoradio.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_new.tpl&product_id=342&category_id=4&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=67). These guys also convert AM only radios to AM/FM with AUX input that looks and fits like an original.
Maybe a part wanted ad here and a few other forums too? Someone may have pulled a radio that was otherwise junk. :shruggy:
