Not many black ones out there.   I only have 6 recorded in the registry, but I'm sure there are a few more that I just don't have color information recorded.

V2 Hemi Orange is the most common Daytona color with 70 cars registered so far.
R4 red is second most common Daytona color with 69 cars registered.
R6 which is more of a blood red is quite rare with only 6 registry entries.

I have not compared these numbers to Galen's list that he published around 1992.    If someone has that, please chime in.   You can get an idea of the percentages involved with the above numbers.

I only have 7 cars logged as originally X9 also, could be the same ones but I think I'm missing the X9/C6W Hemi 4-speed car that went to England.  So far, I have two X9 red gut cars - James L.'s and our very own 3--Daytona's.

Dave, I had that one listed as having a white interior, and having last surfaced in Tomball, TX.  Was that not the case?  My notes also say that the car had a K-frame and Hemi taken from a stripped-out C500 (you can also see the chrome valve cover in the picture you posted), but it's been a long time since I wrote that note.   :scratchchin:

I had found this guy when I lived in Houston TX in the mid 80-s .But allways knew about the daytona from NJ.Just didnt put the 2 cars together as the one and the same that far apart NJ to TX.I went to Jersey village part of TX .And met up with Rick Boen who had the superbird I got off him.Not knowing he had a daytona until .I had the superbird .But for sometime I tried to get it less 426 hemi engine he said was from a wrecked X9 charger 500.I tried many deal combinations less or with426 engine or trade for my R4 car etc deal trade. But he never wanted to sell the daytona even when I got the superbird  .As I wanted a X9 black daytona with white interior as this one was .Rick worked as a service manager at Tomball ford on route 149.in Tomball TX.I called regulary from NJ and asked about the daytona and 70 Big block Chevelle parked next each other.Up and after I had the R4 car. Then I fell off in contact. He is a nice guy and he drove the car from NJ to TX .Which is a ride .I did it several times buying cars in Houston and driving to NJ with them.I had found out by seeing the daytonas NJ inspection sticker and what town Rick mentioned he got it from Rio Grande NJ .When he showed it to me .That this car was from South Jersey .Near the Wildwoods. The shore area the car had the backwindow and rear half eaten by salt area exposure.Rio grande is real close by to Wildwood. So the area known shore eaten daytona goes to TX .And I cross its path again what are the odds. Also I know who has the J Lucy X9 red int car.But has different owner .Troy I have Rick B Address and phone number on my old car papers,Unless he has moved. You need them Pm me

Side note here guys but there was a X9 HEMI 500 that was in Tomball TX for many years. And it is 248663 if anyone remembers that car.

Isn't Elmer's car a factory X9 car as well? I was thinking that the last figure I saw for X9 Daytonas was 11. Not sure why but that # seems to come to mind for X9 cars.

Going on cars Ive seen wingcar newsletters and board discussions following best accounting from various sources  of X9 black daytonas 426 and 440    XX29L9B379741 440 AT X9 Black and very good chance the Pace car dated Oct 69 from Hutton Dodge XX29J9B383268 426 4 speed blk interior XX29L9B400566 440 4 speed  XX29L9B400575 AT 440 Red interior XX29L9B405187 Auto 440 XX29J9B405189 426 4 speed XX29L9B409044 Auto white Int 440 XX29L9B414652 4 speed Red interior XX29J9B414660 426 auto. Comes out to 5 AT 440 and Hemi. Dave,  The '79 WW had 379741 listed as a "Gold Metallic" car (Y4?), and 383268 as a B5 Blue car.  Were these actually X9?  Any tag information to confirm these changes?  The other cars you've listed are the same as I have recorded.

Narrowing down the Pace car by Hutton dodge and shiplist and vin.to 379741.Which appears black in the .Oct 69 picture And having seen or knowing of very limited Y4 gold daytona as like Carl swansons and Steve Kliens. As Elmer changed a black daytona to lime green .Maybe a chance he changed a black car to gold?.Maybe Doug or someone in WI that seen Elmers car would know if that took place

XX29J9B383268 was Jim Radke black hemi daytona that went to Monteverdi in England wasnt it? And this car here. But it shows in 79 Henry Watkins Bright blue.aside from known black 4 speed hemi daytona Jim Radke Hemi daytona and Don Hicks 426 4 speeds. Is there anymore other then pictured bellow .And X Don Hicks now Steve Foxs daytona seen at carlisle at the Jacobs tent

I think the only time I saw the car was probably in 82-83. I remember going with my dad up there to visit him one weekend and that was it.

I tried all I could to contact his family. Some dude out there was trying to sell it for all the wood ++ so he could get another car he had for free.

Way off the beaten path here but I thought I had heard a number for black daytona's being over 10, and after about 45 minutes of searching through papers here on the desk, letters, and other things I finally found it and I'm sad to say I spent that much time looking.

all the info I can find says 9, with only one exception. A note from Mike from Dayclona saying that they made 15. Anyone else heard this?

As a side note here I notice that in 92 GG had 37 hemis known back then, coincidentally very similar to the # of J-code's showing up on the relatively recent release of a shipping list. Interestingly enough the 33 or so J-code VIN's that do not show up on the shipping list have not seem to have surfaced on any other "lists". I have always believed the "70" # but what paperwork did it originate from?

Anyone else notice that the number of Daytona's known as far as engine break down vastly outnumbers the number of known in the color bracket as well? I know that for the information I have on 500's it is like that, due to not knowing for certain what colors the 500's came in originally. But I notice that in his list he breaks down what transmission is for each engine for a number more than he has for colors. Just wondering how one would know for sure unless they were all numbers matching cars? Because it is possible to weld in a 4 speed hump floor pan, and have it go unnoticed.

Wow you guys are good. I talked to the long time owner on a few times over the years. The car was F8 and then white and now the black as it is today. I can't remember all the details but I think he resprayed it black at least twice?
Anyway it sold to the dealership late summer or fall of this past year.
Cool car for sure, and a another nice Daytona owner! :2thumbs:

Has there been any new related info on these 2 or any other black X9 daytonas to date

Some is a little off on their asking price if they think a project car is a $350K car. I would find it hard to believe that even if that car had just come off of a fresh restoration they would be getting 80% of that asking price.

So you think its worth $350K just because its one of the few X9 Daytona's out there Dave? To me colors are nice, but they don't add or decrease a value to a car. Its a Daytona, its 1 of 501 (I know the number is 503 supposedly but I think the shipment list is a little flawed) does it matter what color it is? I mean does this mean that a Y4 Gold car is worth more than a V2 orange car because there are more V2's? And if so does it warrant a tripling of the money?

As much as I like the color combo .I agree its not worth the asking price. But if its the last known black car to be had .There might be a bidding war. :Twocents: .And this car is not sitting all intact and untouched as mine was .Its totally disassembled. If any color daytona was going to out price another daytona. It would be a another Ohama orange car :Twocents:

How do you figure its the last known black car to be had? There are more known black cars out there than just this one, and there is at least 1 other known black car that can be bought at this current time.

I can't think of but 1 other X9 car that has red interior, which would be Jim's car. But I was not trying to argue, just making a comment dave. That if there are known X9 cars out there then it won't be the last one that is ever up for sale. Elmers car is still for sale as far as I know, factory X9 car.

Color is great, and being X9 it is a desirable color, but no logic to asking a 100% mark up over a restored car. When the car in question is in pieces mind you.
