Cycle top like a bike carrier?

Without pictures or details, how can
anyone help find the car? :shruggy:
I would post all kinds of pictures and information pertinent to the

Get us the details and we'll spread the word.

Light'em up boys, the trail starts in New Mexico.....so southwestern members keep an eye out. :patrol:
:fireangry: , awww noooo sorry to hear this !! fingers crossed , it comes back undamaged ,
What were the circumstances of its theft?
Sorry. Still in shock. I've been driving around all day looking for it. Thanks for loading the pics. It had factory steeleis on it now. My dad is in town visiting so he needed to borrow my ramcharger this morning . So I warm up the charger and back it out of the garage. Pull the keys out and go inside to get my daughter to take her to school. I'm standing in my living room and I here my car fire up. Now my uncle is also visiting and he is staying in his RV in the driveway so I thaught for a second that he is messing with me (spare keys stashed). Looking out the window and I see it start to move. So I run for the door, open the drawer in my end table where I keep my 45 and realize I put it in the safe last night (worried with the kids around) . So I go running outside , at this point his halfway into the street and sees me coming . He tries to through it from reverse to drive and has a hard time ( b&m shifter with lock out) I jump onto the cowl (panicking ) then I get down and try to open passenger door (locked). He finds drive and is gone, through the yard over the curb. Worst morning of my life. The license is 550ska, I'm not posting the vin on the Internet but it starts with xs29l. I figured it's the only one in the state of new Mexico and probably single digets in the country that looks like this . And yes....... It was perfect.

RGA,
I just saw what you posted above, man Sorry to hear that! Thats horrible!
I hope you recover it soon! Maybe our friends here may be able to spot it!
Hate to hear this- I'll be on the look out in TX
Sounds like someone was stalking the car and knew how to steal it quickly, aside from the shifter. Look at all your friends and their friends and so on..... Sounds terrible I know

Look towards your Neighbors, was your car at a service garage lately, maybe someone had time over lunch to make a set of keys?
I Guess you meant to print "POP" instead of "PPP" . "If any PPP up please let me know."
And the "cycle top" would be "vinyl top".
Not being a critic , just my guess's may be what someone need to know.
I was sick when I read your original post. Now,,,, just speechless.
Very sorry. I hope you get it back safe and sound.
so the question is who knew that you would be taking the charger today as opposed to the ram :scratchchin:
Im going to be a wise-arse and note that it is green so... :scratchchin: :icon_smile_big:
But on a more serious note, rest assured. If I happen to run across that car some peoples are going to be very sorry....
Jesus that's awful. How the hell did they get another set of keys? If they hot wired it, was it really that easy to do? I'm getting that GPS tracker for sure now...
That thief.... has some set of Balls on him !
to steal your Car, from YOUR driveway ? while YOUR uncle is staying in his RV in your driveway ? and taking the time to HOT WIRE it to boot ?... while YOU are in your living room ? in broad daylight ?
In hindsight, maybe a good thing the .45 was locked away ?.... if you would have shot the prick, the twisted justice system probably would have sent YOU to jail !
So sorry for your loss, I hope it turns up undamaged.

One more reason to own a 70 with the locking steering column
Sorry to hear and will keep eyes open but to have taken it right out of the driveway was not just for a joyride so there must have been some kind of plan a head of time for the car
Sorry about your dilema. Please tell me that you have good insurance.
I'll keep an eye out here in Vegas. MATS around the corner, who knows :shruggy:
Who was it insured with?
So...
Can you describe the thief ?
Are any of your keys missing ?
Or, do you think he hotwired it ?
Had to be looking him in the eye. Right?
I have insurance through farmers. Anyone used them before ? Looked right at him, kid maybe 20 skinny, gray hoodie pulled over his head. Either wired it or found my spare keys .
Question is: Have you seen him before? :popcrn:

Well in that case we're looking at two things: someone close to the family that knew his schedule, or a lucky thief that's been camped out by his house for a long time and just happened to be there that morning. What a MESS...
This is horrible. I don't even know what else to say. really disgusting...
Did you see any other cars parked nearby or another car leaving?? It doesn't take a pro to rob these cars, but to do it in broad daylight, holy shit!!!
I hope like hell you get it back and in good condition.
This is one reason I like an electric fuel pump. One hidden switch and even if stolen in the middle of the night or no one home, they are not going to get far.
Keep us informed.....
And to do it with the owner lurking about? Ballsy, stupid, or both...
You don't need to actually hotwire it. Knock off the key ignition (you can pull one out with a dent puller). Insert screw driver and you're good to go.
Whoever stole knows cars in general......so im assuming this person has been scoping this car out specifically........
you guys need to install secret kill switches. Most of my old mopars have had them.
I assume you called the cops right away. Since a 69 Charger is easy to spot and the cops didn't stop him on the street it might be hidden just a few blocks away. Any traffic cameras in ABQ?
Hope you get it back!

What they heck do you have to lose? The car?
If the car isn't found in the next day or two by the police then posting the VIN here has the possibility to be helpful. If it gets repainted and someone tries to sell it with faked paperwork then we're all useless to help without the VIN.
In any case I hope it's recovered soon!
This confirms for me that when I get my next Charger I'm gonna get a LoJack setup.
This might be a case where I would be putting the VIN up everywhere as well if it were me. :shruggy:
That's what I was thinking as well....The first couple of days are critical. I suggest doing anything and everything that would help find the car. :2thumbs:
I just hate this! Took a walk up to the shop just to check on mine. Make up a ton of posters and tack them on every f...ing pole and building you can. Even if he only went a few blocks, people would have seen and noticed the car. Offer a reward.......
Pictures ? last 5 vin ? little things to look for unique damage ect..
Thats terrible , Lo Jack is a greatly overlooked item ! Or simple powered cell phone hidden in the car at the least can be tracked within feet of it location , i have Lo jack for many years and have a piece of mind with it. I will keep eyes and ears open for sure.
Good luck
Well.. Thats shitty to say the least. I do hope it turns up in one piece, a cool bonus would be the man who stole it found dead on the ground next to it :rotz:

Just doesn't seem to be a crime of opportunity. As mentioned earlier, there's likely a neighbour involved.
Hell, I'd be so nuts by now, I would have my uncle in the basement, tied to a chair, with light bulb over his head.
On a serious note, sometimes the cops know more about your neighbors than you. I hope they take a good look.
Just Go to a couple of local biker club bars. Meet the fellows, they HATE THEIVES as much as we all do. Not to mention U will meet a few new friends. Whom have a hobby, as we do, n are probably some of your neighbors. Their kids n grand kids go to the same schools as yours do. A rendering good drawn pix of THEIF will go along way. Especially when U show Pix of the stolen ride. My bet
3/8" electric shut off solenoid. 12 Volt and less than 1 amp draw.

1/2" electric shut off solenoid. 12 Volt and 1.7 Amp draw.
http://www.dan-marc.com/79-afc173.html
One of these combined with a hidden switch of your choice and the car won't get very far..
Sorry you lost your car. If you live in a busy city go to the taxi company and pay the dispatcher a couple of hundred bucks and get him to put the word out to the drivers. Offer a reward to the driver who finds it. good luck
I have it up on IG , my wife posted it on Facebook (I'm not on Facebook). It had a full tank. Stop light cameras in albuquerque are for collecting revenue and not helping me find my car ( I called, said they couldn't help). I was shaking and driving around when I posted that first post and I have no idea what PPP was supposed to be. I have combed the city. I called the police they filed there paperwork, there job is done. I got pulled over on the way to drop my daughter off about an hour later speeding in the ram charger, ran my plates " your the guy that just got that 69 charger stolen, that sucks man just slow down ". THEN WHY ARE NOT LOOKING FOR MY CAR ! I am thankful for a lot of things , but I am still missing my car.

And the "cycle top" is probably "vinyl top".
Try posting it up on e bay with good pictures and stolen all over it. I am pretty sure that how another person got there Charger back some time ago. It spooked the thieves and they placed the car on the street.

:2thumbs:
good idea , , & Craigslist :yesnod:
This makes me sick to my stomach. I sure hope the car will turn up and the thief hangs.
One way for the thief to take possession of a vehicle is to have a friend or family member that own a storage company. They place the car into storage and create a fake storage contract (for the original owner of the car). The car is then left there for however long while the "unpaid storage fees" pile up. After a certain amount piles up the storage place puts a lien on the car. What the thief gambles on is that the owners have moved from the house where the car was stolen. The storage place mails out the lien paperwork to the last address where the car was registered. If the letter isn't answered by a certain time or returned, they hold a fake auction in which the thief bids on the car for a paltry amount and wins it. He then gets a bill of sale from the storage place and can apply for a new title for the car in his own name.
This happened just last year with a Hemi Cuda. The problem for the thief was that the people after 14 years, the people still lived in the same home! So when they all of a sudden got a notice in the mail on a lien on their car, they rushed to go get it. Problem was the thief had realized something was up and took the car out of the locker before they got there. To make a long story short, the original owners luckily got their car back.

STOLEN !! 1969 DODGE CHARGER $$$REWARD$$$$
Someone stole my 1969'dodge charger this morning out of my driveway.
It is light green and restored in near perfect shape. I am offering a $$$$$ reward for info that helps me find the car and or the people who stole it.
Man, I feel for you. Hoping you get it back!
Have spread the word in the Northeast U.S.A., California and several family members currently in Southeast Asia and Europe. All car people, Have sent info with pictures.
You definitely have a MC club in the area . either HA or O/law, go to the pres and offer a very generous reward (what ever you think its worth to get back in same condition). You might see some quick results. They hate thieves . Check your local chop shops, scrappers or wrecking yards. I bet the car is within 10 miles of where it was stolen from , maybe hid in someones garage . I feel for you man , nothing I hate worse.
Is there a system like lone jack, that is cheap and easy to install and find are stolen cars ?

Okay I'm not in RGA's shoes....but I don't think this meager ad on CL (in one city) will help .....and this situation should require lots of attention!
It should have contained many details and pictures of the car. How can a stolen car be recovered without pictures and description? :shruggy:
Furthermore, how does a reward help for the recovery of an automobile that nobody can identify?
I've attached a "screen image" of the Craigslist posted earlier in this thread.
As you can see it contains no pictures, description, or vin of the stolen Charger.
I hate to offend RGA, but I don't think there's a lot of effort here.
I really hope I'm wrong.... but what you see below was exactly what I saw when I clicked the link and screen printed it (1/23/15 11:05PM est). :popcrn:
Tufcat: I spoke with Bill tonight. I can tell you that he is doing what he has been told by the local police and that this man is broken like you cannot imagine. Of course more description would help, but the fact is he has already had some calls on cars that others had spotted. One turned out to be a 1970. Same color but no vinyl or stripe. Then another that was under a car cover. Again not his.
at this point a vin number could bring more robbers to his home. I personally do not think they were there for his Charger. Maybe so, but he had just pulled it out from the garage and shut it off to go inside and get his daughter ready for school. Putting out his tag number won't do a thing as anyone who stole the car would have changed the plates by now..
He has friends on the force there that are doing what they can and what sounded like more than the usual.
As I said, he is doing what he has been told to do and he is still a mess. I am sure he will put more info out if it is not found soon, but until then let's stop with the second guessing and just do what we can to help him find his car and try to get through this....

Steve, imo a full description with pictures should have been posted on every Mopar oriented website known to man immediately (2-1/2 days ago and counting), then on every Craigslist city near Albuquerque and everywhere in between. This type of exposure could have done wonders by now to put the word out on the streets... ....fuggetabout the cops. :coolgleamA:
Basically, we would know very little about the Charger other than the pictures I posted. The man loses his pride and joy and he doesn't post any pictures? There's got to be more to this story. :popcrn:
I suck at posting pictures. How many 69 chargers you gona see in albuquerque ? How many are you gona here about ? If you see any old dodge and you think someone is gona pay you your gona call. I will work on the pics on Craigslist. Thank you for posting the pics here. I am a father, and a small business owner (working 70 + hours a week) and I have a new baby 6 weeks old ( no sleep, pissed off woman, screaming baby). And I loose my CHARGER ! It's not a car that I kinda like, not a car someone else built. I built that car, wanted it since I was born, finally finished it and POS jumps in and drives off in it.
So if you have a problem with the way I am handling it stay out of it.

Posting them on here isn't that easy, also I'm realizing I don't have any real good pics of the car. Didn't realy like showing it off, just liked driving it. Also starting to realize how much it is worth looking at prices out there and I might have been under insured.

You are full of shit. You want info on my car ? Why ? For what ? So you can try to find it and keep it or what ? Talk more about my family. Post your cop friends name and # than . Maybe on day your car will get taken and let's see how that plays out

This isn't the sort of topic to be having fun with. Do some people think this is a matter to take lightly? I guess some people revel in the misery of others. Outside of posting tips about the car's TRUE whereabouts or offering condolences people should stay out of it. Nitpicking a man while he's wounded and down is in really bad taste...
I agree Myk, but I believe that it is unhealthy for our distressed member to be dealing in an online debate with someone who's not helping the situation.
Well I just read this whole thread and what a terrible thing to happen! RGA I hope you get the car back in great shape. I've been in a similar situation and it made me sick to my stomach, hang in there.
Based on what I read here, and not knowing all the details, other than what RGA stated, I think TUFCAT had some great points and I agree with his posts.
RGA. Just read this, so sorry to hear. Like you I try to fly under the radar with my cars. If I even think someone is following me I won't turn down my road. I have a GPS tracker installed in my 68. It alerts me if the car moves faster than 10 mph and also tracks car. Think I'm going to install those cut offs in all the Chargers.
It sucks we need to spend all this money to protect our own property.
Hope you find your car.
Gentlemen, not trying to start a pissing contest, but if you see this Charger, call the police first.
You should have a case #.
Are we innocent until proven guilty or guilty until proven innocent?
A charger is stolen, authorities are involved and the owner is directed by the authorities as to what to do. He has been a member since 2011 and has posted an ad on CL about the theft. Yes, there is limited information to go on the CL ad but that is his limitations of posting an ad. Maybe instead of criticizing him, someone could help him with his limited time/IT capabilties to rectify that.
I understand why he does not want to globally relay his VIN. Especially, when that will be switched quick or the car is parted out. Recently, there was a thread posted here, wondering if this 3 black charger in Ohio was my car. If I posted my VIN to show that it was not, maybe I could be sitting in RGA's shoes right now. Some may disagree but it is my car, my choice. The same goes for RGA.

RGA, I was making a point. A recent thread was posted about a car in Ohio that matched my car and history. The person was trying to see if it was. Sometimes you can be duped into posting your VIN and in turn they can find out where you live. Thats what I meant.
Here is that thread http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,115790.0.html
I changed my wording in the original post so you can understand what I meant.
And I agree with your point (thats why I won't publish VINs or owners in the 69 Registry) but if the car is already stolen then it can't be restolen. Not from the original owner anyway. It's 100% his choice and I fully respect but if it were mine, the world would know the VIN. Even if all i accomplished was making the bastards do ten seconds more work.

Gotcha, nice car !
Yep, I was trolling for a car to steal :flame: & not an opportunity to post a couple pics of a friend's original paint 22" radiator triple black stripe DELETE R/T from 25 years ago.
All I know is: if 5 years from now, a red '69 Charger showed up at MATS with this green car's VIN on it - I would have info that it was stolen in 2015 from New Mexico, w/o - it's a red Charger. :scratchchin:
Maybe the insurance value is more that the car is really worth?
If I had a car stolen, photos of the VIN, the car inside & out, body numbers, license plate & everything would be posted, along with a contact number for the case officer's department.
That was my position. I also found it strange that so much detailed information was posted about
how it was stolen, than actually about the car itself. Information about the incident is nice, but not necessary. Those details wouldn't help anyone concentrate on finding the car.
To show my heart was in the right place, I was the first member to post pictures of the car in an effort to help locate it. :icon_smile_cool: The details and licence plate number is here if anyone cares...

I remember reading of a Charger years ago which was stolen. The owner posted the VIN for us all and the car was eventually found because someone happened to find the matching engine or rad support or something along those lines that had the stolen cars VIN on it (car was numbers matching) ? Police tracked it back. Anyone else remember that?
I believe all of this speculation is a TIME RELATED thing... Meaning that right now the vin isn't going to help any of us find the car. If it is not found in reasonable time I am sure the vin and anything else pertinent will be revealed. I also would NOT put out the vin right now because I'd be hoping the car is found whole. Not in pieces. So please guys, give the man a break and lets keep looking for the car.
The MATS is coming up soon. The chances of the entire car showing up there is pretty nil. Parts, maybe. This car needs to be found before it comes to that.

Exactly. Thank you .
Regardless of all this debate about methods of getting the word out. The word is out to police and social media to a extent that he has been instructed to do. I'm sure he's putting in all effort available to him. I just get sick as the time ticks on though. As of now, the car could be in some garage two blocks away, or on a container ship going to God knows where.....
First let me say that I am truly sorry you are dealing with your life long dream car being stolen... My heart aches for you and your loss. At the same time I think we should all look at ways to learn from your horrible situation...
This thread got me to thinking and researching... The system shown is the same one that Best Buy has available for $339. It is a Swann DVR with 4 night vision cameras. Does anyone else use cameras to keep watch on their Charger?
My brother uses this system for his house. He works out of town and he comes home on weekends. He's single at the moment and he lives in a sketchy part of town. He likes it a lot. It's also a deterrent when you walk up on the back or front door and see a camera staring at you. He also hid some too.

Luke, I actually have the 8 camera system for my home. It has amazing quality both day & night in addition to being color in the day time it was a small investment to keep watch over the exterior doors and my family. I added a PTZ camera last month for more $ but it really is awesome to pan around the front of the house/street and zoom in on license plates on cars driving by the house.
I have already planned adding two cameras to the garage. The OP's situation makes me think doing it sooner is better than waiting...
I think the GPS tracking idea for cars is the best thing I've heard so far. :yesnod:
I recently found out you can buy hidden ones that are hard-wired with battery back-ups that lasts up to 12-hours, even after the car is turned off.
The nicer ones sell for about $200.
http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/product/brickhouse+hct+pro+plus.do?sortby=ourPicksAscend&from=fn
Here's one for about $120
http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/product/brickhouse+hct+plus.do?sortby=ourPicksAscend&from=fn
Also, for newer cars with OBD, there's this one for around $90
http://www.brickhousesecurity.com/product/trackport+gps+tracker.do?sortby=ourPicksAscend&from=fn
This is just one companies stuff and lots of other choices out there. Checkout Amazon or just google GPS automobile tracking and shop around.
theres a page full on e bay to take your pick
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060778.m570.l1313.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.XGPS+auto+trackers+&_nkw=GPS+auto+trackers+&_sacat=0
Thanks....and those are really cheap too!! I wasn't up to speed on these little things, but I do like the idea. On a car application, I think a battery back-up is a must have.
Weird things that would stand out on my car in a croud of chargers . Exhaust has manual cutouts and round slash cut tips, ceramic headers passenger side hits in idle in gear, driver headlight door is slow, small nothing debt where glass guy kneeled on my quarter installing rear glass, small corner of driver side grill broken behind bumper (otherwise perfect grill) plymouth steering wheel, motor was a 76 (built it in high school for a 70 super bee) truck water pump housing so lower outlet is on the wrong side and there is a crazy long weird lower radiator hose. Wipers don't park (3 speed motor 2 speed switch ) drilled slotted rotors and manual brakes. New bumpers new glass. Right quarter and tail panel were replaced.
Just in case it gets painted and moved . These things would make it kinda stand out. Vin was correct in all 3 places, no fender tag.
I was Fixin to ask if there were any things that would be unique to the car. That water pump and radiator hose thing would stand out. I live in south texas and drive in all directions for my job everyday. I'll keep a lookout, incase it's headed for border. But it might be hard to get it across I'm not sure how that could work for the thieve.
Luke

Perhaps the police have all the necessary info, but I do agree for anyone else to really help in this matter more info (VIN, photos, etc) would be very helpful.
You do not need a photobucket account to post pics on Craigslist (it's even easier than to post them on here). You just attach them from your computer to the ad. You don't even need photobucket to post pics on this forum, either.
I hope the car is found soon and back in your garage where it belongs.

We made a delivery to a business, but, my driver didn't get the ticket signed. So, they were going to stick me.
I remembered they had security cameras. Of course theirs weren't working. But, the business next door's cameras were working :D
The majority of businesses have cameras covering the front door and or front parking lot. You have the near exact time for them to rewind to. And they hate thieves too!
It will take some foot work, but, you just have to place it on a street/road and then see if it gets to the other end.
The process of elimination could get you very close to the car. But, you have to act fast because many "rewind" in a week. Enlist family and friends.
Just a suggestion.

I wouldn't just yet if it was me. I'd wait a month or so before making that step. Insurance company just wants to hurry up and pay you off so the whole thing can be dropped. I'd want the cops to have some time to try and find it.
Never know, insurance company could be in on the deal. :scratchchin: Anything is possible. :scratchchin:

You may be doing this already but I would be searching craigslist high and low for a '69 Charger and/or parts. There's a site (search tempest.com) where you can put in your zip, what you're searching for, search radius, and within the last x # of days.
That car is sitting. You may take the loss and move on. Then one day like an ol' girlfriend she'll be there, asking for money.

Keys to prove they were not in the car when it drove off ?
If it comes down to it I would keep my keys and make them a duplicate set if that is what is needed to get the insurance money

Maybe the insurance co. needs any set of keys from the policy holder for payoff so they can believe they weren't in the ignition. I'd give them some keys for something else. If they pay the car off and then its found months or years later do they also return the car?
Didn't that happen recently where a Corvette or something was stolen decades ago and then found?

don't most folks have more than one set of keys? Say the keys were in it, go pull the extra set off the hook and bingo, here ya go they weren't in it. :D
It's been almost 2 weeks, the depression hasn't left. Not looking good. The complete vin is xs29l9b421314. It was stamped on the body correctly too (in case they swap the vin on the dash) . I think it's on the radiator support and trunk.

Stealing a loaf of bread was a crime in the UK and you could be sent to Australia for doing it (200 years ago).
A bit harsh I know, but stealing someones PRIDE and JOY is worse, there is only one person who can really sort that out.
THE BIG MAN HIMSELF, COME JUDGEMENT DAY... :angelwing:
Any updates!!
Wondering the same. :popcrn:
Do you live near Chip Foose?
No updates. No charger. I will find it and get it back one day. I don't want another one.
What about the insurance co. have they come through?
Let's use this unfortunate incident to remind everyone to put at least ONE anti theft thing in your car. ANYTHING at all. Fuel cutoff. Secret ignition cutoff. Starter Cutoff. ANYTHING might have given you the few seconds to thwart that thief.
Myself, I wanted a system that could NEVER "not be armed" or "forgot to arm"
I made it myself
Arms every time the starter is used, even if hotwired. Kills the engine if and only if not in Park.
The keys will not help you.
Would take many minutes at the least even to figure out what it happening.
Restarts easily
Dies when you try to drive it
Meanwhile the thief looks like an idiot and panics. Drawing attention. It could easily be modified to also honk the horn when the car leaves Park.
Only the authorized user, with a certain tool, applied in the proper inconsoicuous spot, can disarm the system.
Use your imagination, and do at least ONE thing...
secret switch in the lighter, that grounds the points [or other coil trigger system] etc.
Light switch must be on in order for starter to energize...
ANYTHING

Does this have a motion detector? Will this work if someone steals our beloved cars with a rollback?

Wow, that would be a nice thing to have. Mine is just a secret cutoff switch but that's got the user error problem that you mention. Another thing on the to do list that's miles long. :smilielol:
"Does this have a motion detector? Will this work if someone steals our beloved cars with a rollback?"
====================
No, there is only so much one system can do. Certainly one could have a jiggle detector set off the screamer in the usual "alarm only" way.
Nowadays there has to be an app to alert your phone if your car gets molested.
I am not sure i can make a schematic but if you know what a drop relay is, that is what I used to arm my system every time. The START wire goes to a relay and activates it. When it is closed, it feeds itself 12V... with a diode preventing backfeed to the starter, so that it works as designed and is not held in START by the drop relay. So, this relay, kept on by itself now, can only be turned off by interupting its ground, which is where your secret switch and tool to actuate it comes in. I added a coule other features also.
This drop relay is activated EVERY time the starter is used. Well, almost. Not giving away all my secrets. A manual temp over-ride switch could certainly be put in the lighter, or rigged to the lighting circuit, etc.
All the ignition cut offs ideas are great if anything? :shruggy:
The thieves that go the route of starting one up have to know the owner so he/she knows any secrets it may take to get it to fire up right away. Hell, it may not even have a motor. :hah:
There's an idea. Weld in a set of cut outs & make sure they're open when the car sits.
With that said, this theft had to have been a roll back driver.
I just got a toggle switch connected to ground and negative side of coil...won't even start when hot wired
I used my hazard/flashers switch as the kill switch for the MSD.
Not very many people would think about turning the flashers on for a spark to the plugs. They could bypass the ignition switch and get it to crank but not fire. Just buys time and hopefully the thief would think it has issues starting and give up.
What a sad post.... I know it has been a little while but did anything ever turn up?
I do not visit as much as I use to after finishing my 69. Sorry to hear about this. I will keep an eye out here in Colorado. Your story has made me consider some changes in security I need to make with my car. You can bet if I see your vin on anything out here I will hold the person until you show up and I will let you decided if you want to call the cops.

My god that had to be Heartwrenching. My prayers go out to you. I know they are just cars, but when we put our hearts and souls into them, it's a loss that can't be replaced.
Still no news, haven't found it, still not really over it. Thanks again for all the help.
Thanks for the update, though not what any of us wanted to hear.. It seams that the chances of finding it all together and in great shape is very slim, but not gone.... Lets's at least hope they find the little bassard that stole it either way..
So has insurance intervened and taken care of you at least?
if it had big rims no one would of never stolen...
on another note nothing here in Phoenix....
I know it may be a reach but this one just popped up on ebay. It says its a '68 but its seems interesting that it was in Mexico (where anything is possible) but he has a "clear New Mexico title". Also, it has to be finished and has a bad paint job. It looks like and they had the whole car apart at one point, which enough time has passed now for someone to completely change your Charger. Just trying to help with anything that looks suspect.

Still haven't found the car. There is a 70 here in town looks almost like mine, I saw it a couple weeks ago and my heart stopped, then I realized it was a 70. One day I will get another one, I have 2 young kids now so no time to do another complete resto... But doesn't stop me from looking and dreaming.
Insurance claim?
So.... Last night searching craigslist I found someone selling 69 charger parts. Mine. I call friends at the sheriffs department and they go out there today. Long story short I got part of my car back. I got the hood, fenders, doors, deck lid, cluster and grill. oh yea and the rear window regulators (still attached to part of the quarters) so the cut them out with a torch. Didn't find the rest of the car, didn't arrest anyone (this guy got it from that guy who got it from another guy ). After seeing the torch work I know the rest has to be cut up somewhere too, so I'm never gona see her again. Very depressing day.
The insurance paid me for the car right away so I got that, but I would rather have the car.

Very sorry to hear all of this. The whole thing is just plain wrong.
I sure hope the police are not just ending the search for the original bastard...
It completely sucks that any of this happened to begin with, but at least you have some answer. Even if it's not the one you were looking for..
How far away were these parts??
Guy selling knew exactly what he had... they should cuff the bastard until he squeals!
Sorry, that is bittersweet. You have some answers, but not good ones. Isn't that receiving stolen property?
Sorry to hear all this. The guy selling the parts should know something, is it that easy to get away with it by saying I got it from some guy that said he got it from some other guy :shruggy: LEON.
that really sux :flame:
receiving stolen property is an offence over here that can put you "inside" is it an offence over there ?
have him charged and offer to "make a deal " tell us where the rest is and who did it and you walk :scratchchin:
Maybe the seller knew or maybe he didn't. Like we all go around checking every part we buy for this?
Still, it's worth squeezing him for info to backtrack it.
Sorry. Better to know than torture yourself for years looking at every car you see and checking the vin. One less charger. :flame:

As others have said, lousy news, but at least you have a better idea of its fate.
Sounds like BS to me that they can't threaten the seller and then follow a trail backwards. Email or phone records could do the trick. No one probably wants to do the leg work.
One other thing, how were you able to prove that those parts were yours?
If I were you, I would not give up looking, as you still might find other valuable parts up for sale.
Again, sorry about the news.

Sad to hear, was it far from your place and did you recognize the guy who had the parts.
The no arrests part is bullsh!t IMO... North American justice at it's finest. :rotz:
Then again, is there ever truly justice for car guys? I feel they're usually quick to ditch helping car guys, but even quicker to throw the book at us over some foolishness; based on my encounters with Toronto's finest at least.
I hope there's some further justice for you, even if it is vigilante in nature...
It's been a year and the parts were about 50 miles south. The trail ended with this guys nephew left the parts in his garage so he sold them. scumbag druggie thief :scratchchin: ever heard of a hot shot :flame:
What a shame. makes me ill.
People are imprisoned for receiving and having stolen goods. The problem is with car parts and other often traded goods, is that you can believe that the sucker who has the parts DOES NOT KNOW they were stolen. Now if the cops were to walk into a room full of brand new flat screens, they would look at it a bit differently, but we are talking about 30, 40, 50 year old car parts.. I don't think I have ever received a receipt for parts at any show.....
I do think I would be looking for the scumbag that had the parts. Even if just to follow the bassard to figure out how/where my car went. Then (of course), I would let the authorities know.... ;)
People don't do something like this just one time. He's probably done it before, probably along with a whole string of other offenses, and needs to be stopped.
Did you see the guy that drove off in car. From Description earlier sounds like you did. Track the nephew down. Wonder if he is same guy you seen driving away. If so should be a slam dunk, case closed? LEON.

Then you pay some 'Good'ol boys' from outta town to make sure he never sees the light of day again...
Sorry to hear about this. :'(. At least you know what happened to it. If the guy is not pursued by the police, then I would have a real hard time containing myself. You know, damn well, that the guy selling the parts knew they were "hot" if he got them from his druggie Nephew. If someone stole my pride and joy, cut it up to sell parts and fed his habit with the proceeds, he better get arrested and do time. If not, I would find a way to make him wish he'd never seen your car.........
I would be more enraged than the sum of the universe if something happened to my car, but all this talk about retribution is pointless, unless he plans to go to prison.
The OP says that insurance has paid him. I don't see why we can't focus on finding another Charger to start the next chapter in life, instead of agonizing over the past...
You'd think the police would investigate more into this.
It's not likely whoever took your car was a first time car thief.
They had knowledge of the value, a place to dismantle it and people to sell the parts to. I'm sure the police will continue to investigate this but honestly they aren't going to tell you much if anything. I'd imagine whoever did this has lots of wonderful stolen parts and who knows what else at their home.
Are you going to build another one with the parts?
:Twocents:
Sue the bastard in civil court for "inflicting emotional distress". It sounds like a joke but it might actually be an easier conviction than a criminal case.
The problem with this idea is that the bastard will likely never have a dime to squeeze out (especially not on paper). So your investment of time & energy & lawyer will never be rewarded.
So, does anyone mark their parts?

Would you say the same thing if you caught someone stealing your car from it's parking spot? After you'd jumped up on the hood, and looked the scumbag in the eyes. Then after all that had to watch as he recklessly drove off with it. I dunno, but that seems a little harder to let go than if it had just vanished in the night.

Yes. Yes. Yes! I'm with Myk. At this point it's all should've, could've, would've. OP is going to get nowhere with the legal system and all the well meaning action items from those of us not in his shoes offers no consolation. If we're me, it would just add to the frustration.

Now i got cameras and thinking of getting Ravelco and adding my beehives to my car storage location. Thinking also of making a docking station that i can slide beams over rear axle and weld to the floor. And a couple of more booby traps. No more showing off my car at home. Hey man i feel bad for you. Somebody tried to steel my 69 Charger but i had it so rigged that only i could start it. But had i not noticed the hood was up i would have never walked up to my car to see they had busted vent window, broken ignition and foam cover for ignition, dented key slot on drivers door.
That's crappy man, I had someone do that to my car when I was working out of town. They even knew where my ignition/kill switch was to start it. Luckily I also had a fuse down the line that I remove at the end of season, or when extra paranoid. Ended up saving me that day.
This story totally blows! Dam, don't know what I would do! I feel bad for you! :'(
Good luck in getting it back! I would have
shot the prick also if I could have gotten to a gun. I also am getting a GPS tracker for my car after this post. Sorry this happened, people suck.
