I am in the process of restoring my 69 R/T and I have some questions about the console. My car was missing the console when I got it, but I have one now, but i'm not sure if its the right one. What years will interchange, and are all b-bodies the same? The console I have right now looks right until you get to the back where the compartment is, there it is just straight on the back, and has 4 bolt holes in back[into compartment] . I dont have pic's yet but if it will help i'll post some. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think what you have is a C-body console.  They were sometimes two piece with a second piece that bolts onto the back hence the four bolt holes.  It should work but it is technically not correct and without the back piece it will look kind of strange.

Troy

You'll need a 68-70 B-body console (includes Coronet, SuperBee, GTX, RoadRunner, Satellite, etc.). It sounds like you may have a 66-67 Charger console which ran all the way through the rear seats. I'll see if I have a picture of just the console for 69.

Troy

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

 :iagree:

You have the earlier console which either came with the Charger rear console or a bolt on end piece in the other Dodge and Plymouth B bodies from 1966 and 1967.

If you can find one of the bolt on ends it will work and function fine, however, it will still be noticeable to knowledgeable people.

The earlier console was also made of a heavier fiberglass type material rather than the 68-70 plastic.

Photos would help here but it sounds like you have a '66-'67 console.

I hope this pic I added  helps, I have a couple more, but they were apparently too big to fit them all on. I'm computer stupid, Thanks for the help!

Looks like someone chopped the back off. There's supposed to be another 6-8 inches or so past the back of the lid. The front looks weird too. You can get the plastic consoles new now for $199. I forget the name of the place off hand. As long as you've got all the bolt on stuff you're ok.

That is the earlier 66-67 spit console type, I had one in my red car for a few years until I
was able to fix my original. The back portion bolts right on to the back of the main console
body at the edge of the back of the console lid. That style is VERY sturdy as ''mentioned''.
The rear section is thicker and stronger than the one piece unit.
I have never seen one break. Once it is in the car its not real noticeable, but in car shows people
will sometime notice it, but I don't think I every missed an award because of it.
Do you have the rear 8in long rear section at all??

Looks like the top plates and console lids are the same on those as on the '68s, or am I imagining things?

694spdRT

That is definately the earlier console. The top plates are the same as 1968 unless you get one from a Charger with the padded armrest on top over the console box.

You will probably have a hard time finding the non-Charger rear bolt on piece for it but, they are on Ebay from time to time. My dad's '66 Coronet 500 was missing the rear piece and we had to buy a whole console to get the rear part. We now have one that looks just like yours sitting on the shelf.

So if I read the comments above correctly....I see the 66 67 console body is different than 68-70....but is the top plate on th 66 67 the same as the 68?.....what about the lid door.....are they the same also ? 66 67 = 68?

I was thinking of buying a repo body for my 68 but than would need a top plate and I would like to know what is interchangeable.

thanks

I also have that style.  I am going to put it in my 68, with three kids that one should hold up alot better than the original.

Which one are you going with?......from what I have found there seems to be 2 manufacturers.

I have that 66-67 two piece style.  I didn't realize when I got it off ebay but I figured what the heck.  It has the 68 plates on it and is alot more heavy duty than my other cracked one.  The grain design on it also looks really nice.

THE CHARGER PUNK

that is definitely a 66/67 console with a 68 plate , my buddy has a 69 with the same thing except hes got the 69 top plate, it is way sturdier then 68-70 consoles, but to me just looks plain goofy with that chopped off end-MATT

Yes you can use the same top plates from the two piece style ''in your picture'' to the one piece console.
As long as it has the rib style top plates they are interchangeable for a 68 Charger.

If you get the proper end piece it will look just like the 68-70 version. The chopped off end was never like that from the factory...you either had a full rear console attached to it or the small end piece.
