Title: What's the indentation on the rear panel on the C500 for?
Post by: WINGIN IT on February 10, 2012, 10:07:42 AM
Looking at that blue hemi c500 on Ebay again and saw the rear panel has a kind of rectangular "indentation" and some holes.
The holes are maybe for rubber bumpers for the bottom of the license plate, but what about the indentation?

To give it strength and rigidity...not visible under the license plate.

Not disagreeing with you but then why don't all Mopar tail panels from that era have them?

Perhaps it's for license plate drainage  :smilielol:

When the parts were removed from the stamping press, they would be stacked up and "stick" together during shipment to the assembly plant. Being a long narrow part it would likely bend (causing damage) in the middle when removed from the stack before being installed on the vehicle.
