Today was a rough day. I was driving south on a four lane blacktop at 55mph. At the intersection ahead, a truck was on my left and he was signaling to turn right and drive north (opposite direction). As he pulled out, a late model GMC Sierra behind him pulled out at the same time. The 17 year old kid who was driving, decided to gun it across all 4 lanes of traffic. Because of the truck that turned in front of him, he didn't see me and I didn't see him until he has 4-5 feet from my fender. I was doing 55mph and I never even had time to reach for the brake pedal. The Sierra slammed into my front left fender and spun me around. I slid sideways into the ditch. I hit the steering wheel and am bruised/beat up but I walked away, which I am grateful for. The car can be replaced. But I have a wonderful wife and 5 children that need me; so I feel pretty lucky to go home to them today. That being said, the old Charger did well. I was doing 55mph and I don't know how fast the other guy was going but he was hustling.

First and foremost, glad to hear your ok for the most part. You're still here to enjoy Christmas with your family and friends. Sorry to see such a great car destroyed. Hope you're able to get enough to either have it rebuilt or replaced.
I'm sick to my stomach just looking at the pictures, not a great Christmas Eve. Can't imagine how you feel, but at least you're home with the family. Hope Santa leaves you some car parts..
Thank god your okay! Sooo sorry for this. (I totaled a Z/28 in similar circumstance due to young knuckle-head.) :brickwall:
Oh my.... I feel for you and glad to hear that you are Ok and can enjoy Christmas with you loved ones! Material items can be replaced, but life & death is forever!
:o
Sorry man. Glad you're alive!
That car did perform well, all things considered.
Seat belts save lives. Glad your still upright among us.
Glad you're okay. Sad to see a classic car like that. :eek2:
I think that if it would happen to me, I'd have a hard time not punching the other driver in the face.
Sorry to hear that your survivor Charger was wrecked, but thankfully you are a survivor as well. With the parts that are currently available the Charger can be saved. The car will have to spend some time on a frame machine though. It will not be considered a survivor anymore, but you are!
Sorry about your car but glad you're ok!
wow sorry to here that but at least your alive the charger saved your life time now its time for you to save it
Sorry to hear that, but glad you walked away!
Good to see you are doing well. :2thumbs:
Glad you are ok. That ditch may have saved you. Charger can be replaced.
yikes , oh no ! sickening sight :o sorry to see this ! glad you made it out !! , cars can be replaced, bummer yours was unrestored though, still anything can be repaired fixed restored etc
Sorry to hear mate
Saw your post this morning on facebook. Devastating but glad you are alive.
If i may ask. Were u insured? Was the kid insured? Is any legal action being taken against the kid whom hit you?. Not sure how the laws work over there hence why asking if any legal action will be involved with the kid.. Reckless driving? I dunno.
Holy crap that could've gone a whole lot different. I'm glad you're still among us man! I'm very sorry about the car, but if it helps I've fixed worse than that. Time to be with the family now, the car can wait.
Wow, those photos are tough to see, but the fact that you came away with your life is the only essential thing here.
Thank for the well wishes. It's disappointing for sure. But I've got 5 little girls and an amazing wife that need me so I'm still thanking God for safety.
Luckily there were several witnesses so I'm not too worried. I should be covered.
I'm lucky the car didn't roll. Hit the left front corner then he banged down the whole left side. The Charger spun and I remember entering the ditch sideways before the front end caught in the dirt and the back end swung around. I'm still amazed it didn't roll.
Good thing he didn't strike you few feet farther down the left side of the car. He woulda gone right into in the driver's door.
Wow glad you're Ok.
Good luck & Merry Christmas regardless!
Sorry to hear about your crash but you're ok even if the car is not ok.
Car looked to be in good shape - sorry to see it get damaged - looked to be pretty solid
Sorry to see that, and you're ok. I'd try to save the car as well :2thumbs:

I agree 100%. That was a bad wreck.
I'm sorry about your car. This just makes me sick to see this happen. I'm glad you are ok. I'm not sure I would have been able to control myself at the scene. There are a lot of people that shouldn't be on the road driving
Russ
Wow, That's a real bummer. glad your OK. I was in a similar situation twice so I know it can be devastating. It's easy to buy a Charger if you got the funds but not so easy to find/Buy another survivor car. LEON.

X2.
Very tough to look at. It seems like we are seeing a classic Charger in an accident once or twice a year now. It'll look better once the doghouse come off.
Wow, that sucks :'( But most importantly you are okay. It is just a car, but I hope the car can be rebuilt.
Wow! Glad you are ok! As others have said a car can be repaired right replaced. I'd say the charger gave you the ultimate Christmas gift, that being it's "survivor" status.
Wow, that's why I'm get a little paranoid driving on the highway. Good to see you made it out alive.
Sorry to see this. Hope all works out
Did you have a shoulder belt on ? I think they had both lap and shoulder belts in 68 and up ? :scratchchin:
Glad your OK, I just hate seeing the pics makes me feel sick.
What a shame, but at least you are here to talk about it. Had you been hit in the driver's door, the outcome would have been a lot different. I home that you had it insured for a stated value.
Glad to hear that you're well and I hope you enjoyed a fine Christmas with your family. As you said, and it's similar to a phrase I was raised believing - "it's just a car."

And the spin scrubbed off the power of the impact, so when it got ditched, it didn't flip.
Sorry to hear about your car but thank God you are ok.
Terrible to see. :'(
Think of it as good luck rather than bad. A few inches closer to your door would have been a lot worse.
I hope you gave your wife and kids a hug when you got home.
All the best with the rebuild if that's what you plan to do.

:eek2: :sorry:
Well that just sucks!
As I'm looking at the carnage, the passenger side front picture in particular, I'm wondering why the bumper bracket isn't/ wasn't attached to the fender?? You can clearly see the bumper bolt is there but no telltale ripping out on the fender itself?
Previous work done? Bumper or fender replaced? Or just dumb luck that the bracket/ bumper/ fender/ seperated clean?
Glad you are allright :2thumbs:
Are you going to get your charger fixed or is it tweaked up too much?
Thanks for the well wishes everyone.
To answer the bolt question, the bolt ripped cleanly out of the fender. Pretty odd.
I need to see how the other guy's insurance treats me and I'm going through some things right now as a result of the crash so please offer up some prayers for me. It's been a tough week....I'll share more in a bit.
WOW, prayers & best wishes to you & your family. As said before a few more inches & it would have been into the door. My brother hit a telephone pole in his R/T many, many years ago doing 30 mph, dead center of the drivers door. V-ed the door almost to the center of the steering wheel. The doctor said the only thing that saved his life was, he didn't have his seat belt on. Keep us in formed on the progress, & good luck. Tell the family you love them each day, life is to short.
Sorry to hear this. Glad you are okay!
People drive like ass clowns now a days. Everyone is in a rush to go no where fast. Just terrible...
Wow! that totally sucks! Best wishes and hope all turns out okay for you.
I had my Charger restored here. Ship it there it will be worth it.
https://www.musclecarrestorations.com
Yikes! That's a real bummer. :P Glad you survived relatively unscathed, it could have easily gone the other way by the looks of it. :o
That bolt thing has me wondering. I tried to avoid using any Chinese fasteners that came with some reproduction bracket kits but instead used refinished original stuff and new stainless steel fasteners when I could. Just makes me wonder if some of these 50-year-old bolts have gotten weak.
[quote Just makes me wonder if some of these 50-year-old bolts have gotten weak.

It wasn't the bolt that failed. The bolt ripped right through the sheet metal eyelet located on the leading edge of the fender.
How are you feeling?

How are you feeling?
Still some big bruises on my arms and legs and rib soreness but it could be worse. thanks for asking! still waiting to hear from the other guy's insurance company...
Glad to hear it. Man I bet you were soar for a few days. Quite the snap. I know I've been in a few wrecks. Been awhile and I hope it stays that way. Knock on wood.
Good luck with the claim. I hope it goes good (easy) for you.
Wish the other car just went off the road into brush, etc. instead.
Chargers are fairly solid cars.

Ugh.. so sorry to hear of this. Glad that you managed to escape with what appears to be limited injuries. Don't be complacent about getting things checked out as some physical issues can take a while to manifest!
Sorry to hear about this, glad it was not as bad as it could have been.
I'm not sure if this was answered but were you wearing the lap belt only or also the factory shoulder belt? I tried using my shoulder belt on my 68 and it just doesn't feel comfortable to me.
Your accident got me thinking about future plans of my car and if I should consider a retro shoulder belt installation like the one I saw in one of the Mopar mags years back.
Sorry to see but glad you are okay. Man, that was a hard hit & hat to see another one get destroyed. Like you said originally, cars can be replaced.
all jokes aside ..I think the front grill was at least worth his first born child ... sooooo.. sue him for at least that ;).. it will at least cover the down payment on the next charger
@7085cuda - any updates? I'm curious have the ins handled your claim. I've asked the ins question a few times and while most reply with which company they have, most have never had to file a claim. Thx

Like the 6 million dollar man (or Car)
Better stronger faster. Just look at what others have done with much less to start with.
If you are going to fix it, Really fix it.

Thanks for asking. I am pleased to say that Geico (the other guy's insurance) was very good to deal with. The adjuster that came to inspect the car was professional, courteous, and a good communicator. I was really prepared to do battle with them, but I wanted to see how they approached it first. Geico ultimately impressed me and made me a very fair offer, which I accepted. They wrote me a check and gave me the option to buy the car back, which I exercised. Since I have some health problems, I wanted to settle quickly but fairly. They impressed me so much that next time I look at insurance companies for my daily driver vehicles (not classics), I will probably look hard at Geico.
Good to hear. Hopefully now you can move full steam ahead on getting your car rebuilt

Most important, Hope you get your health on track soon. As far as the Insurance company, Did it matter what the "agreed value" with your insurance was or were they going to pay out what they paid even if you only had liability coverage? Thanks
Glad to hear that they treated you fairly, now tell them to get that little green dude to start knockin some tin and straightening some panels on the Charger.
Good to hear you were treated right. Now get better.
Thanks for the reply. Happy to hear that you were treated fairly. Wishing you a speedy recovery
I hope you get your health all back . Most important part.
Holy shit! Glad you are oke and can go home save yo your wife and kids! Sad about the car them! But we have AMD you can rebuilt her if you want..
Well, The last couple months have been nuts. I am finally prepared to share...I declined medical attention At the scene of the accident but a few hours later, my lovely wife convinced me to go the emergency room, where I received a chest x ray and a head CT scan. The ER Doc pronounced me healthy and sent me home but two days later I received a phone call. The head of radiology was home on the day of the crash. Two days later, he was reviewing the work done over the holiday when he came across my chest x-ray. He spotted a bump on my right humerus (the big bone in the upper arm). Several x-rays/MRI's and 14 days later I was told I have bone cancer in my right arm. I'm only 36 and a father of 5 little ones so it hit me hard. The surgeon/oncologist said that I needed to have the top third of my right humerus cut out and replaced with a cadaver bone. It took 3 weeks to find a cadaver bone that had the right size/profile since the head of the humerus needed to fit my existing rotator cuff/shoulder. It took three weeks of taking it easy because the bone was so thin that it was close to breaking. The picture of the x-ray shows how bad it was-the black void is where the cancer had eaten out the bone. As soon as the bone came in, I had surgery. Before the bone could be removed, the surgeon had to cut/unhook and peel back all the muscles that attach to the shoulder (bicep, tricep, deltoid, pectoral, and 4 back muscles) before cutting the cancerous bone out and grafting in the cadaver bone section with a 6" plate and screws. After the graft, all the muscles had to be sown back in place. I spent 5 days in the hospital where the pain was BRUTAL. The first 5 days at home were pretty rough too but things got much better after that. I've been in a sling for 6 weeks now and I've never sat still so much. The surgeon thinks he got all the cancer, but I will be doing body scans every 3 months for the next 5 years. The bone was sent off for pathology and upon inspection, the bone was hairline fractured but the tissue above it tested clean. The surgeon says this bone can take 6-9 months to heal fully. If it's not healed by 9 months I will have to have another bone graft done so if you're a praying man/woman, please pray for healing. I have to take it really easy for the next year which is NOT MY STYLE!!
I'm not sure why this had to happen, but I believe that all things happen for a reason and I'm truly grateful to God have survived the crash and to have a solid chance at beating this cancer. If you pray, please keep me in your prayers. Enjoy the pictures...

Wishing you a quick & full recovery! :2thumbs:
Good luck and get well soon! Crazy how things work out!
That is truly amazing. And a blessing in disguise. No matter how hard the road, at least you're here to walk it.
Crazy... when the car crash saves your life.
Unbelievable story! Things truly happen for a reason and I believe that you're supposed to be around for your wonderful family for many, many years to come! :2thumbs:
My goodness!!! I hope and pray things go good for you and that you are 100% soon!!!!
Get well soon.
Speedy recovery sir! That pic with your girls is priceless!
Get well soon.
Wow. The Lord sometimes works in mysterious ways. Take care and take the time to heal up. Awesome pic of you and the kiddos.
Wow, this is an incredible story. I am sorry about your beautiful Charger, but to have this happen and find the cancer. You have beautiful girls. I hope you continue to heal and will one day be driving that Charger again.
Very cool how this major medical finding came to light here. As a dermatologist, I can't tell you how many times people come in to see me for a rash or something, and I spot a melanoma on them. Divine intervention, karma, or good luck; however you want to look at it, it sure is something to be grateful for. Prayers sent, and may you have a successful and speedy recovery!
Blessing in disguise alright.
I hope you recover quickly.

GOD Bless you and your family. Its a shame you lost your car but it may have saved you. Did it ever hurt or anything before?

I never felt anything out of the ordinary. I lift weights/workout 3-4 days a week, toss my kids around, jump on the trampoline with them, work in the garage, lift transmissions, bare engine blocks, etc, so I always have a certain amount of aches. But nothing I would have gone to the doctor about or been concerned about. Thanks everyone for the prayers/encouragement!
