Off Topic Discussion / Re: Retirement: A blessing and...
Last post by Mytur Binsdirti - Yesterday at 11:50:41 AM
I was at my job for 44 years (25 as owner) and have been retired for nearly 2 1/2 years. I simply had had enough of the stresses of running a business and dealing with deadlines, employees & customers, to name a few and I can honestly say that I don't miss work at all. Working from 6:30 am -5:00 pm, thinking about work at night and on weekends and not taking many real vacations wore thin  towards the end. Because I had limited free time, I always felt guilty if on
the rare occasion I had a lazy day on the weekend, but not any longer. The psychological fear of not receiving a paycheck any longer took some getting used to, but I'm doing ok with my 401K & CD investments. When I sell my office building & when SS kicks in a little over a year from now, I'll be on easy street. The only downside about being retired is that I thought time would pass by slower, but that is not the case at all.

And if it was a 68 R/T, he'd want 90 large.

Quote from: hemi-hampton on September 11, 2024, 09:05:00 PM$4Ok sounds like alot for a non R/T car needing a total Restoration. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will vary :shruggy:  :Twocents:

Agreed, to properly restore that car back to stock is financial suicide. The only way you could make it financially worthwhile would be to restomod it with a 392 or Hellcat engine along with all the usual modern upgrades. However, you'll be into it for well over a hundred grand.

If somebody gave you the car for free you'd still have more into restoring it then what it would be worth :scratchchin:

That is certainly a true fact. A quality paint job will set you back 30-40 grand today depending how much metal work & panel replacement is needed.

What I was getting at is that going the restomod route makes the car more valuable than a restored 383 4-speed, although you'd wind up having as much money into it as you could sell it for.

Engine, Transmission, Rearend, & Exhaust / Re: Is this a kickdown issue?
Last post by Dino - September 14, 2024, 06:59:50 AM
No exhaust leak. It's a bit of oil from the corner of the valve cover.

I tried readjusting the kickdown cable, or throttle pressure as I think it's called, and it made the kickdown a bit more sensitive, with a slightly harsher 2-3, but otherwise still a dud from a standstill. If I shift it into 1st gear, shouldn't it stay there until I move it? Mine shifts into 2nd gear without moving the shifter. IT stays into 2nd until I move the shifter to D.

Some people say that may cam is retarted. It was installed per Crower specs and the whole ordeal is in a sticky here. If the trans turns out fine then I need to dig deeper into the engine itself, but I'm not convinced yet the trans doesn't have an issue. Can I drop the pan and filter and check things or is it more complicated than that?
