The majority of drivers treat their cars like appliances that get worn out and replaced.
Enthusiasts that take pride in their cars are not the majority. WE are the ones that keep our cars in tune, WE care more about keeping our cars looking good so WE are the ones that often park out and away from the crowd.(At least the ones that do if we can, some are getting older and frail and choose closer parking to limit the walking)
The wife and I do try to park further out to minimize door dings and the close parking dorks. It is often inevitable though that yeah...you take care to park further out from the venue in the hopes that you return to see your car sitting alone and unscathed, only to find some piece of crap car next to you.
Why do people do this?
The wife calls it Co-Dependency. These people often find comfort by parking close to others. The same mentality feeds the need to drive next to someone else on the roadway even when traffic is light.
Fucker, if I wanted to be close to other people, I'd make it a point to do so. I speed up, slow down and sometimes drift a little in my lane to DIScourage dipshits from hanging in my blind spot. I don't want anyone driving next to me unless the traffic is heavy or if I know you.

I hear yah. With 255/45R18 tires in front and manual steering with a big Block, I try and park out of the way. Just to find at least one d-bag decided to park next to me, even though there was open spots closer to the building? WTF

Parking lots are clearly designed these days with smaller cars in mind. In more-congested areas (which is just about everywhere anymore) it is getting much harder to park a "full-sized vehicle. In the "boonies" out here in Colorado, where nearly everyone is driving a pick-up truck, this isn't so much of a problem but in the more-urban areas it very much is.  My truck (and my Charger) clearly don't mix-in well anymore with the big city. It isn't just you.

With my 07 Dakota and my 70 Charger I'm finding I park like crap sometimes. The size and angles of parking lots around town make for tight cuts sometimes. Am I just getting old or are you guys experiencing something similar?  :lol:

An early former co-worker passed about 10-days ago and while dealing with his passing I found myself in a text conversation with another associate from that era. We ended-up also reminiscing about our cars and related adventures from back then.  His fast-car days experience was with a 1969 Chevelle packing the solid-lifter L-78 396 motor. He claims it was rated at 375-horse, even with an automatic transmission (which, upon checking, it appears that he is correct). He also claims that it had plastic inner-fenders and was very-rare (which is likely true as well as I've never come across another one before). Most of the 396-equipped Chevrolets I encountered then with my 383 (and 440) cars weren't all that fast. Anybody here know just how fast his car really was?

He's a pretty good guy either way, as he also worked as a paramedic in those days (with the local "rural" ambulance company) and he had to haul my sorry-butt to the hospital after one particularly bad night (I had rolled a big block '65 Coronet down into a creek after a long night of "excesses") where he then counseled me to carefully consider my hospital of treatment for my injuries (thankfully, mostly just cuts & bruises). This caused a much-longer ride to the "further" option and confused local law enforcement, allowing me time to recover my wits and call my police officer father (so he could then interceed, I ended up with a ticket for making an illegal pass). Ahh...the truly foolish things we lived-through then, the world is so-different now.

I've been to the drag strip a couple of times with my Scamp, ran 15.2 with the 318 & with the 7-1/4" rear. One day I hope to go back to see what it can run after the rear end swap. It had 2.72 gears & now has an 8-3/4" rear with I believe 3.23 gears & should be able to get into the 14's.

Exactly what I ran into. I called "Mr. Sixpack" and his supply line is so sloppy he sent me to Hughes. Even they warned me that all supply lines can run in fits and starts. Not one to monkey around I ordered my SEH2024BL-11 that same day.

Whoever was making the cams for Mopar Performance seems to have quit doing it but that was awhile back. I recall seeing the leftover stock priced way higher than what was expected, almost to the point where you could get a roller cam for the same money. You'd have to be a thick wallet enthusiast wired real hard for nostalgia to pay $500 for a "Purple Shaft" cam.
