some pics about how its going the body job on my car, specially on quarters.

They have been cut about half of the body, since older patches done about 6 years ago weren't really good made ( the su***r first body man cut too much the quarters, and rust holes didn't arrive even to body lines ). NOS wheel opening molds didn't fit, body lines didn't match with molds or with rear valence area so they have made taking measurements and specially with pics posted by PaulG ( really thanks buddy ).

I didn't arrive at time to take pics of some part of the job ( didn't have the dig cam on my hands on those days ), like when was cut the front section of the quarter, but you will see how it's going with new patch panels.

here are the panels that will fill those cut areas, home made with a hammer and a chisel... still need some final touches with hammer...

firts one is the driver side on exterior face, second one is the passneger side on interior face

trunk floor extensions will repaired the best as possible, since they are practically nearly impossible to reproduce with hammer and chissel.

lets continue...  here are the front section of quarters, job still not finished.

All patches where made with 18 gauge.

Of course, final shape will be made with fiberglass and bondo as any regular body job, but will be practically minimal...

Sweetness!   I recall my Charger going through some body work.   I wanted to be there every step of the way -- except maybe when they were sanding.   Got kinda' hard to breathe -- LOL!

My only frustration will be the floor trunk extensions, but those will be on next time I will go with some body job, they can be replaced without badly damage really the quarters, But I can't affordt right now those from USA... I'm right now on another deals.

here is my NOS driver side door already aligned and with new pins and bushings on hinges.

below, is the final inner quarter section, where is the rear valence bolted... they did need also to be rebuilt on both sides

I Used the NOS wheel opening molds to find the quarter shape and body lines beside the pics that PaulG posted on the thread I started on paint & Body section. I had lucky on the upper section of quarter still were original molds screw holes so I could match everything with that.

More pics soon with job advanced... I think rear section will be welded ending tomorrow ( tuesday ).

is there a reason you restored that super beautiful interior before you start cutting and welding the 1/4's?

Money talks... on those days I only had money to pay the interior ( didn't have a job ), so I don't want to stop my project ( already was about a year and a half ) I see my pocket and calculate what I can do on my car on that moment and go with that. I made the interior almost a year ago and even I wanted to make the body job on those days, wasn't really extremelly necesary, since on the way it was th car, still I entered on shows.

Don't worry about the interior... it's nice, just bondo dust over vynil and carpet easy to clean.

Upgrading... rear section of quarters, passenger side. Of course, welding points at wheel opening area needs to be milled down and then some fiberglass to fill.

Driver side at the end of the day... you can see how I used the molds to match body lines.

After weld all panels we noticed that some areas weren't good made enough, and did need some extra hammering, cut and weld at next days, but this is the only way to make parts starting from a plain sheetmetal without original casts.

Of course is not finished yet.

my "new" old fender.

the original from factory fender was rusted at "dog leg" area, with some dents, and got a crash on the front ( first day we drove after bought it, becasue brakes were bad and we didn't know it ), bending the edge and loosing the shape. was nicelly repaired.

BUT I parted out two 73s and repaired one of his fenders... this one. Was also rusted on same area, and dented on several more, but less dents than the original one. NOW with untouched front edge.

Still we are working on it.

new pin and bushings on all 4 hinges....

they were also heated with torch and slightly hammered to get the best aligment posible, since of course all years with those heavy doors and hard close ( don't you hate when people throw the doors to close them ? ) can bend the hinges, that even is allmost unapreciable, makes a BIG difference.

with new pins and bushings, and new aligment after some torch and hammer touches at hinges, and EVEN with some hammering at body panels where hinges are bolted from inside we got:

We didn't start to hammer everywhere becasue we had strong to do that LOL, just after some minutes analizing we decide to do that thinking on 30 years of stress on pieces.

Hey Nacho, glad to see a jack stand under the Charger. At first I just saw the wooded block. ???

From what I saw of the Charger it still more than likely looked good at first glances so I might have done the seat's first my self.
