Title: Chrysler Pentastar fender emblem repops
Post by: VegasCharger on June 22, 2018, 12:40:42 AM
Can anyone make sense of this??

These are two different eBay listings for the same repop fender emblems.

$208.99 (almost 700 sold) WTF!!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MOPAR-Pentastar-Emblem-Chrysler-1962-1975-Gold-Fender-Badge-Dodge-Penta-Star-/191832344075

$7.61 (almost 650 sold)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-Pentastar-Emblem-Dodge-Chrysler-Gold-Fender-Badge-Penta-Star-62-74-New-/221970759085?_trksid=p2349526.m4383.l4275.c1#viTabs_0

Both listings are repops. Is it simply people not doing their research??

I think some of these guys ,when then run out of stock ,just jack up the price to where no one will buy to avoid stopping the listing  etc.

No kidding! Now I have to go check the ones I just bought from Megaparts and see which style it is. Both claiming Mopar reproduction...interesting  :shruggy:

Makes you wonder what the vetting process is for someone wanting to reproduce authentic Mopar restoration parts, just pay the fee and you're good or...?

Well that stinks! The one I purchased from Megaparts looks as though it's 'incorrect' as well...having the 'fat' star! I checked two of the original cars in my stable (1969 Super Bee & 1971 Challenger R/T) and they both have the 'thin' star as pictured in the $7.61 ad. Guess I'll order one of those up for the 'bird!  :yesnod:

If in the manufacturing process the complete recess of the star in picture #1 was painted black, the star would look fatter. If just the shallow bottom of the  recess was painted black, more gold color down in the recess of picture #2  the star would look thinner. I'd like to see both in my hand with my own eyes. The fat star may be a painting mistake. I need to clean the car wax out of my star, but it looks like a thin black painted star. 1970 Charger, built late 1969.
