Title: How many 1969 Dodge Chargers do you suppose are left in the World?

How many 1969 Dodge Chargers do you suppose are left in the World?  :popcrn:

I am sure many have been lost over the past 43 years to accidents, fire, rust, etc.  :'(

How many do you suppose are left?  :shruggy:

By "left", I mean, reasonably complete, not counting the ones hacked up for parts cars/salvage yard cars  :Twocents:

When the dust settled in 1969, there were just over 89,000 of these cars built  :coolgleamA:

I have 1. I know of 5 sitting but all complete....3 of them Hemi R/Ts (all on the same property. I've seen atleast 8-9 different ones around in person. The guy I got my Charger from 12 years ago owns 2 R/Ts.

True, but I have seen so many over the years that were left for dead... One of the worst, was one I looked at while attending the 1997 Dodge Charger Registry Meet in southern VA...

I know of one that is just sitting and a few over the years in junkyards... I also know of 7 that go to the local cruise-ins...

Overall though, I'd say 1/2 are gone, trashed, roached, rusted, dead, or otherwise toast...  :popcrn:

3/4 gone!  I remember going to pick-a-part in Sun Valley CA in 1989 and there were 10 complete 69 Chargers sitting side-by-side in the junk yard that included two r/t's and one with a slant six (225).  I cant count the countless ones I have seen through the years that were rotted out. Unless someone saved one, the body was prove to terminal rust.  At best 1/2 left, but most likely only 1/4 left (around 25K).  Just my thoughts.

At 22,500 left (1/4 of production), that's only 450 left per state/avg.  :yesnod:

I dunno, I'd say 1/2 of that,,,,maybe.  From 69 until the the mid 80's, the population was skewed to the rust belt and the northeast.  Pretty short life for maybe 2/3's???
"Anecdotally", I would think repro parts would have come on sooner if there were 1/4 surviving. (especilly adding in 1/4 of the 68's).

Just a WAG from a different angle. :shruggy:

Yeah thought by what I've seen would be 1/4 to 1/3 at best left. You can't divide by state. It's just doesn't work that way. There could be 300 in ct yet 50 in Maine.

It's just a big guess = I see a ton of 69's here, Probably more than a 1500+ just in Calif. or any other non-rust belt states...   Thanks to my mother getting P-Oed at me for too many cars, when I was younger living at home, I use to buy every 68-70 Charger I could, at least 2 69's, a 70 R/T & a 68 R/T were all crushed in Concord, Antioch & Martinez Ca. areas in 1977ish.... I headed her warnings about too many cars & projects on the property after that for sure....

We still have quite a few of them left.  We are short of people willing to spend $20-40K to restore them all.

my honest guess since you said NOT salvage/parts cars.. would be closer to 10000. i know of pretty much every 69 charger left within 100 mile radius of me. and including nice ones i bet there aren't 10. i can think of quite a few 70's oddly enough and a few 68's too.. after 42 years i bet the ratio of good and buildable 69 chargers is at 10000 or even under.

That's simple economics... Why drop $40k into a car that isn't going to be worth much more than 1/2 the whole investment? Take this car, for example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-69-Dodge-CHARGER-SE-R-T-clone-440-Big-Block-Engine-BEAUTIFUL-restoration-/130593560794?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e67fb98da#ht_2956wt_1167

They say they have $100k invested, appraised for $50k, but will take $30k... Trouble is, the car isn't selling, as it's been re-listed again...

QuoteThis car was bought in rough shape in 2001 (from North Carolina), and was a project car for several years during which it was restored to excellent condition.

I have foolishly spent close to $100K restoring this car (I have kept all receipts, but have been too afraid to add them all up!). It was recently appraised for half that amount, proving once again that it's much cheaper to buy a FULLY-RESTORED classic car than to restore it yourself (if I could only turn back time!).

Quite sad, actually, as the car looks decent in pics. However, what's it really worth?  :popcrn: Sorry, a bit off topic...

I can think of at least 12 that I have seen myself around here and ones I've seen in Maryland.  That includes mine and 2 I've seen in junkyards.

And how many have left the country and go on to Europe and so on.. Did Dodge make Chargers for other country's? Like Mexico, Canada.. or is the total number of chargers you said earlier, 90k include exported ones?

Well, I know a lot of them got scrapped in the '80s.  My in-laws own some wrecking yards, and I asked about chargers over the years.  They told me they crushed quite a few back when I was in high school (oh to have been dating my wife at a younger age...... :brickwall: )

Also, when I bought mine, the guy I bought it from had 9 more '69 chargers!  That was in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2004.

Other than a Daytona clone, and a real Daytona that our car club president has, I almost never see any '69 chargers around the area where I live (Salem, OR), but I do see a '68 or '70 once in a while.

I think the only other '69s I have seen have been at car shows, and they were not local.  One guy drove up from California.

Maybe it's just that the people who have them don't drive them anymore (which would be a shame).  I know these cars represent an investment as well as a lot of hard work / time, but it just seems like a waste to have a car like a classic charger and not drive the thing.

My guess is worldwide, maybe 15,000.
