2017 DSAC – Winged Warriors National Meet Announcement - Elkhart Lake Wisconsin – Sept 14-17
We are excited to announce the 2017 National Aero Car Meet. The dates are September 14-17 which is Thursday through Sunday. Our event will be in conjunction with the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival at the legendary Road America, "America's National Park of Speed". Road America is located one hour north of Milwaukee Wisconsin and three hours from the Chicago / Indiana border.
At four miles in length, Road America is the longest and fastest natural terrain road course in North America. Built in 1955, the track was born from the ban of racing held on public roads in Elkhart Lake during 1950 though 1952. As a resort town, Elkhart Lake had a quiet reputation attracting gambling and liquor during the era of prohibition.
Vintage racing action at the track takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 300 entries of all types of of racing cars 1950's through the 1980's. The eleven different race groups run 30 minutes at a time, so the action on track is always changing. Our tickets for the event will be discounted, I expect $35 each. Super bonus: children 16 and under are admitted free with an adult.
Event Plans include:
• A trip to the Experimental Aircraft Association museum in Oshkosh Wisconsin (Thursday)
• Kettle Moraine scenic driving tour on some of the best back roads anywhere. (Friday)
• Spectating and aero car display at Road America (Saturday-Sunday).
• Road Course Reenactment (Saturday) : A police escorted tour of the original Elkhart Lake street course held on the public road during 1950-1952. Street and race cars are invited to participate. There is a small cost $10-$15.
• Lake Street Concours d' Elegance (Saturday), After the road course reenactment, an informal car show will be held on Lake Street in Elkhart Lake as it was in the 1950's and early 1960's.
• Gather on the Green (Saturday): An invitational concours event benefitting Camp Anokijig held late Saturday afternoon on the grounds of The Osthoff Resort. I expect that approximately 15-20 club cars will participate. This event is located adjacent to the Lake Street event described directly above.
• Saturday Banquet. Hosted at the Osthoff by the Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association. Speaker to be announced.
• Parade Lap of Road America – Tentatively scheduled for Sunday at noon
• Track Touring at Road America – Held on Saturday and Sunday over the lunch hour, available at a modest extra cost, this allows you to drive your car on the track behind a pace car at highway speeds for a 20-30 minute session on one or both days. Similar in concept to what we was held at Atlanta before the 2014 meet at Talladega.
The event hotel is the Holiday Inn Express, 55 Holiday Ln, Fond du Lac, WI 920-322-0460 The room block is active now. Call the hotel directly for reservations. The Room block is under "Daytona-Superbird Auto Club" $109 double or king, includes hot breakfast. Please note that there is also a full service "Holiday Inn" (already booked full) at the same location. We are at the Holiday Inn Express
Could we get a sticky for this and drop the 2016 meet off the top of the page?
Hope to be there!
Tony Guida at Road America on a track day. Tony is here on DC.com
Planning on being there.....great, another day in Oshkosh......
Maybe I can make this a "work" trip!
I do know where (in Oshkosh) there is a quaint root beer stand (think the old A&Ws) where the car hops still are coming out to the cars on roller skates and where there is an awesome Irish pub there too!
I reserved my room! :2thumbs: :icon_smile_big:
According to Jeremy, the block only came up for the 14th to the 15th, :shruggy: So make sure you tell them when you're checking out. :Twocents:
Hoping for better family health luck than Springfield this year. :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:

If you are Oshkosh now, you can check out the hotel in person. You are right up the road. Lots of trailer parking.
We are about 90 days out from the event. Just checked in with the Holiday Inn Express today and we are on pace for about 40 cars attending. So the turnout is going to be very good. If you are thinking about making reservations, the time is approaching. There still are rooms available. I will have a registration form available in the next week so you can choose which at the track events you want to participate in.
I'm in. Be there on Wednesday :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: :smoke:
426 Linda and I have just reserved our room!
We will be arriving Wednesday afternoon and look forward to seeing friends old and new.
Probably going to bring the B5 Daytona?

A nice article that just came out on the village of Elkhart Lake and the vintage race happenings held near there at Road America. All the photos are from the recent vintage race meet held two weeks ago.

Just a reminder that we need your registration back by August 15. There is a little fudge factor in there, but not much. If you are coming and do not have the registration forms, they are available at the link below. Or contact me and I will mail you one.

Update - the Gather on the Green Saturday afternoon concours is completely full. We have 23 cars entered of the entire show field.
If you have not sent your entry forms for the rest of the weekend track activities, please send them ASAP.
A few people have asked about dinner on Saturday night. It is held at The Osthoff which is the fancy hotel where the Gather on the Green show takes place. You just walk inside for dinner from the show field whether you are spectating or showing.
The menu is turkey and tenderloin tips, pasta premivera, salad, veggies, garlic mashed potatoes, rolls, carrot cake, coffee, tea & milk. The dinner cost is $40. I know it isn't cheap, but it's nice. We will have table reserved for our participants. It is not a dress up type deal, as the racers from the track will be there after a long day at the track. If you want to add the dinner, there is still time to do that.
Also, I had not announced it, but Ramo Stott will be our Grand Marshal at the meet and he will be at the dinner. Vic Elford is the other guest celebrity at the dinner. He and Ramo competed in some of the same races at Daytona. They may have some good stories to tell the crowd.

The Elkhart Lake Depot – if it is open take a walk through the museum in the back.

Yes. If not at the track, come to downtown Elkhart Lake for the show on the lawn at the Osthoff, late afternoon. It's free.
Ok thanks much!
Anybody make it today ? Car show
Of course between the other four obligations today , nice weather , work
Just mad at myself for running out of time
Man I wanted to go bad
Thank you for the wonderful reception from the Daytona superbird auto club on Saturday. This was the first meet I have attended with my 500 since getting it one road and I felt very welcomed.
I just wanted to let my AERO friends know that we missed not seeing you at the meet!
We qualified for the NHRA DIVISION 3 ET BRACKET FINALS with our 1970 GTX.
We did well down there winning the first race on Saturday afternoon making it into the Sunday program.
We ended up losing a close one where my opponent was quicker off the line but I was closer to my dial in.
MJ
Thanks to Doug, Sue, and everyone who helped make this event so fantastic.
More thanks to all those who provided assistance to the few cars and people that experienced challenges during the event.

Scott, how has that worked out?
I had a trip for work leaving that Sunday we got back from the meet and I called State Farm (my Insurer) that same week. They have processed my info and told me to get the car fixed wherever I want to and I'll just have to pay my deductible. I'm still in the process of getting estimates and picking a shop that I trust to actually spend a few hours fixing the fender and not just beating it back close to shape and covering the rest in with filler. I'll post an update when work gets underway. One of my requirements for the body shop is that I see the fender before any skim coat or paint goes on.
If anyone has pic's of our cars on the track, particularly on Saturday, can you please post them here?
I'd love to see them, thanks!
I have a few....and a couple of the Corvette's I passed on the hill going up the front straight. I'll resize and post when I get back in the office on Monday. BTW, there were a ton of professional looking photographers at some of the corners taking our pictures as we went around the track. Any idea how or where we could get access to some of these pics? I would pay for some decent pics of my car diving into the corners or hauling ass up toward the Corvette bridge!
Looking forward to seeing any more pics from this event.. :2thumbs: :popcrn:

Mike Borkowski's all original survivor Bird. Bought new in Sept 1970. The last Superbird sold new in Milwaukee.
Dave Kanofsky's beautiful R4 Daytona
B-bodies were enthusiastically welcomed. This is Barney Kanofsky's 67 Coronet.
Greg Peck's Daytona. Part of the west coast gang that drove from the Pacific NW and back again.
Number two of the long haulers from the west coast was Greg Greenfield and the FJ5 car.
Road tripper #3 was the Charger 500 of Dave Lolley. Sean Machado beat it like a rented donkey on the track at Road America on Saturday.
Robert and Linda Barnick's blue on blue Daytona is always pleasing to the eye.
"I seen that Scott Faulkner".
Bill and Sherri's Talladega has gotten a Lee Roy Yarbrough makeover since the meet.
The lean and lowered Spoiler II of Dave and Shirley Moots.
Stan "the Pimp" in the Purple People Eater (with air conditioning).
Dan Helman's white on white 6 pack 4-speed Superbird. This car has come a long way since being pulled from a farm barn a few years ago. Not restored, but refurbished to clean it up and get it on the road. A big project.
I know for a fact that Jim Wurster has a man crush on Richard Petty.
Larry Peterson's immaculate Talladega. He says his first generation Bronco now gets more looks.
Bump Fleck's B5 Superbird from Ohio.
The Limelight Bird of Chuck (I love my fuel injection) Porter.

Free "rental" at that.. Thank You "Dave" Lolley. But I'm sure I OWE him big for the hardest 1/2 hour that car has ever had on it... Hopefully the rear carpet is dry by now from the ice chest that didn't like to stay put....
