Title: Alligning the trunk lid
Post by: BrugeeRT on January 06, 2023, 05:40:51 PM
My trunk lid needs to move over about a quarter of an inch towards the drivers side.   The rear deck lid and the hinge mounts are in the same place.  Is there a left side and a right side to the actual hinges or are they both the same?  I used a rubber mallet to try to move the hinges over but then it goes back to being off.  Any ideas on how to get it to allign?

Both sides are the same

Think I would just open the lid about half way and give it a push over to the side that you need to move it to just to bend the hinges a little

Try 2 or 3 times a little harder each time to get it where it fits good

1 why is it out of alignment ?
2 have you removed the trunk lid  & or  hinges ? , lock , latch / striker ?
3 have you replaced any sheet metal  , quarters ,  rear panel , trunk gutters ?
4 if yes to any of the 2 & 3 questions ! was it in alignment before  ?
its difficult  to visulise with out seeing it  , any chance  posting pictures  the gaps . trunk lid   of yours exactly  like what ive posted below !  so we can all see which way yours needs adjusting etc
imo  before you start atempting to adjust . bend or ... remove the lock or latch as  if they are not aligned corectally  the trunk lid can look perfect till its clicked closed & the lock could pull the lid over to one side or other   or be too low or high or all .

I did mine from inside the trunk.
1) loosen bolts from inside
2) have helper move, adjust, align
3) when perfect snug down bolts
4) exit trunk

I can push it into alighnment but after raising it and lowering it a few times, it shifts back to the passenger side.   I have some lock washers ordered so hopefully thos will keep it from shifting.   I just figured it should stay centered without them.   I repaleced the rear quarters and cut around the hinge mounts so the positioning wouldnt move.  The rear deck lid is original and not replaced either.   I might try the inside the trunk adjusting trick.   I appreciate the responses!

So a new lock washer helped to keep the trunk lid from shifting too far over to the passenger side when it was opned and closed.   I still wasnt happy with my gap on the drivers side of the trunk lid so i welded a 1/8 steel rod to the edge and blended it in.  Im very happy with everything now.
