Title: What does this do?
Post by: Zeroman on May 17, 2011, 05:54:18 PM
Behind my amp gauge is a little box with a 12v marked on it. What is it doing with the 12volt signal?

That circut breaker is used for the power top on convertibles.  Is it possible that your cluster came out of a convertible with a ralley dash?

ok....unplug the wire that's attached to it and find out what don't work anymore...it's just a push on spade terminal

Great input guys. I am very sure it was not added after. The history of this car is it was special ordered by a couple in 69. They drove it until 1976 at which time the husband passed away. The wife never liked driving the car (she said it was too big). It sat for 10 years in her garage then I bought it from her in 1986. When I bought it, it was 100% stock. So I can tell you with 100 percent assuredness nothing has been touched behind the gauge cluster since 86 (if it ain't broke don't fix it) and I am quite sure the elderly woman before me did not have any work done. It must be a stock item but again I have no idea what it is.
Ok A383wing, I guess I could unplug it and see what happens, I must admit I hate doing things like that but if that's the only way. Or I guess I could just leave it alone and never find out.

ahhhhh, yes it does. Think it is supplying power to the window motors? Great idea.

Good job A383, you were right. 12 volts stright to the power wondows. So I guess it's a circuit breaker for the window motors.
Thank you all,
