Title: Little red express
Post by: Nacho-RT74 on August 27, 2021, 10:31:39 AM
Please educate me.

What differences are between 78 and 79 Little red express trucks if any other aside the headlights/grill ( single round on 78 ) and ( as far I know ) the catalytic converter added on 79?

I have two friends who both have 1979's. One guy bought it new when he saw it coming off the car carrier at the local Dodge dealership. Last I saw it, it had 22,000 original miles & mint. He can probably recite the differences.  :scratchchin:

But since he's not here,  try this. (https://www.dodgeconnection.com/LilRedInfo.html)

I found that website, but for whatever reason it doesn't open for me. Not at least on my iPad. It stops trying to load at maybe 15% of the loading bar. Will try tomorrow at my laptop.

No it won't open. Maybe some VPN filter being in Europe. It happens something similar with Mopar Action website trying to get into their articles. But on there it clearly shows the message I can't get acces to them due my location.

Definitelly I find more atractive the 78 model than 79.

Editing... found a web what opened for me. It seems a copy and paste one from the other

Both the 78 and the 79 LRTs had the E58 police spec engines, but the 78 featured a 68 spec 340 camshaft,a double roller timing chain, and an 800 cfm theromquad fireball carb, with no catyletic converters,or emmission control equipment. The 79 used an unmodified stock E58 police spec engine, with the catyletic converters and other emmission control equipment.

Ok, interesting info about the engine differences. Wherever I have found info it only shows the catalytic converter added for 79. But I read 850 cfms carb ?

But aside the engine specs, I like more the older grill... and the tuff wheel on it. Dunno how much diff is really the diff red shade being side by side?

I bought a 78 and a 79 so I wouldn't have to choose.

There were a few other subtle differences. '79 also got 8" wide front wheels instead of 7". Also a spare tire, the taillights were different. Due to production changes the brake pedal arm was black in '79 if I remember correctly.
