:popcrn: All of the body work is done on the Daytona now and we start blocking and primering next week. It will be R4 Red soon!
Wow...... Very cool....
Bring me up to speed........ A real XX29-post-Jan.01-1969-car?
Thanks Stuart, I haven't even seen that photo yet. lol I kind of wanted to be left in the dark to add to the "surprise" factor, so I haven't really asked Mark for pictures. I've seen a few on his facebook. He's got a couple weeks of down time (so to speak)now before he starts Season 3 so he's going to post some update for all you guys. He tried the other day, but the photos were to big, so he tried again but kept getting an error message about already posting it?? All he has left to fit is the nose! Strangely, I wanted to experience the fun of fitting the nose. You guys make it sound so simple! lol
Maybe on the next Daytona

The bullshit story that's been going around the internet about this car is:
DAYTONA!
Found in a barn !
Hidden away for decades!
It's all BULLSHIT.
The Daytona sat in that little wooden shed for maybe five years before the flippers found out about it and offered the guy STUPID money for it.
Then...they lost their asses on it.
Before that the owner had it in his garage, until he and his girlfriend split up and he had to move.
So he stuffed it in the little wooden shed on his family's farm.
The owner had purchased the car a few years prior from a well known wing car guy who has had multiple wing cars over the years, he got it from another long time multiple wing car owner.
After the owner put it away in the shed, the car was not for sale, but a lot of people new about it, so when the big money offer came from the flippers, the money was just too good to pass up.
The mythical "Found in a barn" Story is all hype stirred up by the flippers to generate interest in the car they were attempting to sell at a profit.
Y'all fell for it... :slap:
"The owner" still gets a chuckle out of it... :hah:
"Barn find" does tend to be used a lot now-a-days.

I think they brought that body line too far forward - it begins to smooth out a little sooner before it reaches the front.
This car is only an hour away, hopefully get too see it soon.
Dane
Dane, I'm sure you could call him and stop up(or down). He loved your car and skills. I'm sure you'd be welcomed. I've been talking with Mark alot, he's listened to the feedback and it soulnds like Season II is going to be really nice. Yes, they are still a bit crazy and sarcastic, but good guys.
Hey guys...I just went out and looked at the style line. The lighting has made it a little more pronounced but it is there for sure. If anyone has a good picture of an NOS 70 Charger fender that might show the fade away, I'd love to see it. At this point it's easy to flatten that area out to simulate the factory line fade. Thanks for everyone's help! ~Mark
The Daytonas new on the transport had the body line run all the way to the front.
And so does my clone.

I think John's ( the first Y2 car in the previous) post is the best representation as it appears in person.
I got a chance to look at the car in person a few weeks ago, and we discussed that body line.
It's very subtle as it reaches the front of the car.
Day one.

Yeah, the sharp body line on the front fender going all the way to the nose cone. It's really pronounced on the b/w photo & the line appears to fade out on the pictures I posted.
i really think it has a lot to do with color/sun angle/shade. but it does show that it was there.
Yeah, agreed, all play a part.
It didn't look that pronounced on John's car, but again , I wasnt' looking at a Day 1 car.
Wasn't there an unrestored Daytona at MCACN ? Any have a side pic of this car?

Stu, you should see what I look like with a light bulb in my mouth!! Famous? Don't think so. I'd prefer my 15 min. of fame for winning the Powerball lotto or marrying one of Hugh Hefners leftovers! I thought the show went well last night. No, I'm not talking about my part. Overall, there was a decent amount about cars so hopefully guys will realize Mark did listen to the feedback from season I and credit him for that. I'm sure someone will bitch though that he put the part in about his daughters wedding. Wasn't I adorable as a kid! How did you like the pinewood derby car? If you watch it again look when the car is coming out of the hauler... look at the drivers front tire how crooked it is. It hit something pretty bad and acutally twisted the lower control arm. Chrysler GAVE him that challenger to use so I'm glad he covered it for them.
Well I didnt even know that the Velocity channel existed or that I had access to it until last night, but now I'm hooked!
It seemed to have the "usual" reality show format but I did like seeing all of the Mopars and didnt see anyone that resembled the Count either (also a plus). Congrats on your 15 minutes Tom! I'll be tuning in for the rest of the season now. I also saw the teaser on the SC white Superbird...

How do we go from GYC to pinewood derby. :scratchchin:
Here's 4 pics Mark sent me. I know he's been swamped (contrary to what you've seen on the show). One of his goals is to start and finish one or two cars each season. It's going to take some doing since he produces the shows with his own money. He's hired a couple guys to help, so just know he's working on it. I still say, (of course I'm biased) lets simply enjoy a show about mopars and watch it develop. You'l notice my swiss cheese floor that I was starting to drill the spot welds out then stopped so I could keep some of the structural integrity while being shipped. I'll be glad to try and answer any other questions I can. This shell is the way I got it. I told mark that i prefer he blast it rather than dip. Just my personal preference.
:2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
That looks like the Daytona that was for sale in Ozark, Missouri a couple of years ago? My brother in law had thought about buying that one and bringing it to us to restore since I had a lot of Daytona parts lying around. We're about 3 1/2 hours south of there.
As for dipping a car. Don't ever let someone dip your car. It will rust from the inside out. Dipping removes all of the seam sealer that is sandwiched between the overlaps and there is no way to properly reseal the pinch welds. Also, it's impossible to get all of the dip material out of the rockers as well as the frame rails.
THAT quarter sure looked better in flat black an in person ,did they ram the forklift into it??? glad too see work is under way and all the best on build.
saw show,it is better this year, except pumpkin crap.more WING CARS AND CAR STUFF,LESS BALL SHOT........ Well i will watch this year and talk up show at the POOR house in springfield, oregon. tuesday what else is there and only 2 bucks for all the soda ya can drink.. they hand me the remote to the back corner and a big tv with padded booth ,i pick several shows and flash back an forth all nite........meet some interest people and car guys too.........
CAME ON DOWN,,EVEN EAST COAST WELCOME,,AH HA HA HA,,,SEE YA THERE???DJ'S REVIEW  :smilielol: :Twocents: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :2thumbs:
Glad it seems to be that people are getting the humor. Yes that is the car from Ozark. I found it on the internet and I was told it was on ebay for a bit before that but then taken off. Either way, i'm glad it's mine - as rough as it is. I talked to Anthony Zachary( his dad owned it at one time) and he remembers going with his dad when he was about 11 and picking the car up. He said his dad paid $700 for the car. It had that quarter panel hit a long time ago! If you want something more interesting, watch when the car is coming out of the trailer and look at the way the drivers side tire turns!! I think Bo and Luke must have jumped it at some time! That lower ball joint is not only bent but also twisted. How the hell do you twist a ball joint? The front geometry is WAY out of whack.
I have yet to see a price/estimate to fix this car. Or is he doing it for free, since it's on his show. :scratchchin:
Once I get my Blue HEMI Daytona done - I want to drive it down to see your car again.
Dane
:2thumbs: :popcrn:
Well, the car is not being done for free. I wish it was. lol I'm not at liberty to say what it's costing, thats part of my agreement with Mark, I will say though that I am VERY happy with the cost and what he is going to do to restore it versus what other shops charge for a similar restoration. There is no one around here with his knowledge and I would expect to pay twice as much at another shop doing basically the same thing. Now I know many with think that last sentence is a point of debate as to other shops that are better/worse/more expensive or cheaper. I know there are many other shops out there all I'm saying is I am very happy with Marks knowledge and skill and the price I am paying. And I am not going to knock any other shops. I just wish people would get his humor (which they seem to be) and simply enjoy and support a guy thats trying to build a funny, knowledgeable show about mopars. I talked alot with him this weekend and one of the things I mentioned that people would like to see more of is what why he does certain things the way he does. For example: when he cleans the taillights with Miriatic acid, what is the solution mixture OR what product and process does he do to re-dye interior pieces so the dye sticks. Those were decent positive suggestions that I think you'll see more of that. Dane, you know you are welcome to his shop anytime. I'm sure the guys would love to see your hemi. I know I'd like to see it when I'm up the next time.

the hot wheels track was pretty cool. the tree was really neat. havent seen that one before.
That guys other cars makes me jealous. Pretty cool. I got rid of my Hot Wheels track but still have the cars and my johnny lightning set. You're right Stu someone will complain that the angle of the track was wrong or his wrenches are facing east when in a proper shop they should be facing west! Surprised to see no one complained about the discission of the blaster since that wasn't a car. Well, for those getting that the humor and ball busting are just that- humor- hope you continue to enjoy the show. They should be doing some work on my car in the next couple episodes. Not sure which ones and not sure what they will be doing but I think he said that they are doing stuff in about 4 or 5 episodes.

I am a fan of GYC. I realize its not for everyone but I do take it for what its worth. I see it as a chance to watch Mopar restoration (no 2 tone or big wheels thank god) on TV. Funny thing about this Daytona is that I tried to buy it from Muscle Car Finders and in the middle of negotiations someone bought it. I bet it was you. Anyways no hard feelings and I am very thankful that this Daytona is getting the treatment it so richly deserves. Good luck my DVR is already set!
new show tonight :popcrn: :popcrn:
wingcarenvy, yes that was me that bought it. Glad there's no hard feelings. Actually I was talking with the guy for a week trying to figure out how to buy it since I only had half the money, so I finally went to the bank and applied for a loan. I knew the bank guy so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. So I went to the bank on a Weds. morning and told the guy at Musclecarfinders I would let him know at the end of the day. I got the ok about 3:30 that day and called MCF back to say I could buy it and he told me that someone else called an HOUR earlier and was sending a deposit. I was pissed!! partially because someone else got it but more so because he didn't say to the guy(maybe it was you) "ok, well let me just give this other guy a call that has been trying to work this out" I understand the whole "first money gets it" but I had been trying so hard to work this out. Anyway, they called the following Monday and said that it didn't work out because of something with the buyer having a new baby? Something like that I think? Anyway, it all worked out and they were very decent to deal with. So was that you that beat me to the punch that day? If we ever meet up at a show, I'll be glad to give you the keys and let you take it for a drive. Tom I just got lucky getting the car and finding these guys to do my car.(even though some will disagree) What they are doing in two years would have taken me 10 ... and it still wouldn't be done as nice.
Another interesting and funny show last night. Man Tom, they got into your car pretty good but let that deck lid slam !!! Glad no one's fingers were in there.... It'll be interesting to see how they go about with the markings on the various components and hope they replace the yellow marking on the differential housing...... Progress......... :2thumbs:
Since they have Mike's 'Bird and your 'Tona, they can come and get my 500.. Then, they'll have a aero-triology........ :o
This is really aggravating that I can't see the show anywhere :brickwall:
Troy, I've done that myself with the deck lid. At least I still have my fingers. There was only one spring rod attached. It was interesting seeing them take the car apart. Most of it was already! I had that car so stuffed with parts and sheetmetal wrapped to the roof and hood. Glad you're finding the show somewhat humorous. Thats what it's meant to be. Looking forward to meeting you and many of the other guys when I get my car back and can make some shows. I'm learning alot from you guys.

Awesome... Depending on the level of restoration you're wishing to accomplish, I hope Mark's open to "a learnin'" as well... Geno's and John's restoration threads are GREAT reference information. If he, Mark, doesn't have it, email the threads...... Also, not sure you've owned a Daytona before, but be very leary of that wing when it's open and you're getting something out, it'll BITE you in the back of the head... :brickwall:
Believe me, I know... :icon_smile_big:

Despite his ego which I joke with him about, Mark is humble and willing to learn. I did tell him about Gene's thread but don't know how to mail it to him. We did get Dave Patiks reference books and consultation service. As far as the level of restoration goes, I thought about this for a bit and because the car started out so rough with so much missing it really isn't worth trying to get an "OE" restoration. For one, I can't afford that and I really don't plan on having it judged in some big show. I simply wanted one since I was a kid, found one that most guys would pass on but it was what I could afford and just got lucky that I found a Mopar guy to restore it on TV. Like I mentioned before, I'm very happy with the price and getting a level of quality that I could not have come close to by having my local shop do it. So will Mark miss a few things? .. perhaps...does it bother me?.. no ... Will the "armchair" restoration guys ridicule and pick it apart.. yes Do I care .. no I will check out Johns thread also. Anything we can to do/learn get this as close as possible to factory, without having me take a mortage is something we'll try to do. He and I have leraned alot already.

Hey Bud,
Didn't mean he couldn't or you wanted it OEM-correct, just whatever detail you did want it was known about. A lot of times some of the "detail" items are free or at minimal cost. Regarding Geno's and John's thread, it is purely for reference. I like you, don't have countless greenbacks to sink into any form of restoration and I want the car to be driven-friendly ( hence the gearvendor I have in it )..... Anything you two may want, just ask...
To get the thread(s) over to him, just copy the url address in the url window into an email to him, press send.. Done...... :)
I have used Genos thread as a reference for my clone. To much great info to just let slide.

This post and show about the Daytona project is making me want one or a clone. :drool5:
Troy, Stuart and to the other guys whom I don't know your name yet .. thanks for the info and support. I have read several pages of Genes thread, in fact I think I used the pictures of how the fenders should look as a reference for Mark. I tried searching for Johns thread but didn't know what it was called. I'm learning more each day about these cars and Mark is doing his research also. I wish it was possible for you guys who know your stuff about these cars to go to Marks shop and point out every detail the way it should be. I know he and i would appreciate it and it would be cool for the show. Better yet, lets have a Mopar show at his shop !! I know he'd put that on the show. I'll buy the pizza and beer. I know I may seem a bit edgy or defensive when it comes to Mark shop and the show, and perhaps I'm wrong with this thinking, but when guys knock the way he does something, thats kind of knocking the shop and the way my car is going to turn out, but yet none of these people have been to the shop and seen the work. I don't knock other peoples cars or shops. Then people complain about 6 minutes of a wedding or 10 minutes of paintball ... I'm glad to take that along with the 30 minutes of mopar stuff. People keep complaining and maybe the show can be replaced with Fords or Chevy's. Those are nice cars, but I'm partial to Mopars. Mark is always open to suggestions for improvement, as you see this year is an improvement of last. By the way, I actually thought it was kind of funny that Royal nailed Mark with the paintballs.
I would bring the clone.
I totally agree the show is way better this year, and improving with each show.. i meet Mark bout 25 years ago,in the Mopars unlimited club.way back he built up old mopar cop cars even a two front end movie cop car,its still around at a car lot. stayed in touch over the years and stop in too see what he's building. he has done some awesum cudas and challenger and chargers .
i will keep watching and talking about the show, and as always love mopars from ruff hot rods to show cars. Tom you were really busy with Mark the evening i saw danes daytona out front and came back to check out his and your daytonas. you may best remember me that nite ,for mark yelling at me an darren to shut up. i thought you guys were just looking at Danes tona and the camera was so small looked like they were just taking still shots.my mistake as it was a small vidio cam and we were tooo loud,sorry.. then i met ya briefly in shop and looked over your Daytona and and went out to chase and guard dane tona outside. as everyone was inside and dane had left his keys on the pass seat and several guys an 1 bicyle boosoo was hangin by his tona.. i posted about it on my dartona thread as best nite in years seeing two daytona's and 25 other mopars in one nite..as it was a friday ,i went on too a show at brooks auto parts to see more mopars..
well come back in the summer an check out some of the shows .all da best on daytona build, sad that soon as its done it will head to the wrong coast and may never see it run down the road.latterDJCARGUY in spfld,OR

AS i dont do good with drinking and cant afford to get busted or in fights. i order my dr.pepper and they hand me the remote for the corner booth with padded seating . its away from the bar and i can turn it up and watch 2 car channels.usually draw in and talk with other car guys. way back it was a heavy nascar bar and crowd, now sports nuts and some young gals bring my food ,nice. well its a way too see the show and have ran into afew old car guy and x co-workers.. latterr 2 shows tonite. come on down, long drive for some of ya. dj

It would be great to have a gathering, but that far to the Northwest would be difficult for me..... Plant the seed in his ear about the Aero-trilogy, I could us a discount on the restoration of my C500.. :)
Also, was nice seeing Mike's Superbird being unloaded......
Mark getting nailed by Royal was priceless...... The quite win sometimes....... :icon_smile_big:
Troy, I'll let him know it's available but I let you figure the price. I have talked with mark about doing a segement that discusses why and how the daytona was built. In fact I even sent him a very homemade version of myself doing it so he could get the idea. God i hope he doesn't play it. nowTHAT would be free game for criticising! :smilielol: Anyway, in that I did mention the 500 was the predecessor to the daytona and compared the areodynamics of a regular charger. Maybe something liek that will air. Why don't you give him a call and talk to him about your 500?

R4daytona,
Do you have a link to pics of your Daytona?
Also, I did chuckle when he said they are re-popping the Daytona Wing now, (I paid him to say that - just kidding) when I talked to him - he does listen and takes a lot in - he is a great guy. Great show. We should all just enjoy it. Too many times Mopar people shoot their own :(

You're right Dane, people should just enjoy it. You're also right about people shooting themselves in the foot. I cannot believe how critical and picky some are. Constructive criticism is great, Mark does listen, as you've seen an improvement in this season, but some need to lighten up. Let the show grow and develop before people cut it down, or better yet, perhaps they can shell $$$$$$$$$ and hire all the people and make their own show. I can't even imagine how much Mark has invested in this and people complain about a few minutes of non car stuff. :brickwall: I timed the non car stuff I saw so far in the last three shows: 2 minutes about cabinets, total of 10 mins on paintball, 3-4 in the pumpkin patch, 7 mins. on the blaster and 6 mins on the crane. Oh, and less then 1 min hanging the banner. Commercial or not, I thought the crane and blaster were pretty cool. Then comments like " it took 2 people to get a u-joint" ...so what! I've gone with friends to the store. As i've said, I know I'm biased but people really need to lighten up! This board seems a more receptive than the Car Guys, so thanks to everyone enjoying it and thanks to all with constructive, rational suggestions.
DJ , I do vaguely remember you stopping up because I remember someone that I hadn't met being there. Then when Mark said to be quiet I just thought you were one of his friends. I'm glad you and Dane both got to see his shop and meet him and his guys. Constructive criticsm is no problem, but some are just a little bit picky IMHO. Next time I'm up there I plan on letting you and Dane know, maybe we can grab lunch or dinner? Feel free to comment about Mark and his shop on the Car Guys forum so maybe some of them will lighten because I'm just getting tired of it.
I was amazed at how many guys bashed American Hotrod and said that they would never watch the show yet they always knew what had happened on the previous weeks show. There are haters everywhere. I say ignore them. They're losers.
I have guys around here that dis me for no reason whatsoever. They're just jealous that I bought the mopars back when they were much cheaper. They spent their money on their own bad habits. Not spent as much as wasted really. Now they blame me for buying up all of the cars and say that I ran up the prices. They were just too cheap back then to step up and pay what the sellers wanted. Now I'm the bad guy...lol.
I enjoy Mark's show and look forward to watching it each week. It seems ironic that I have virtually the same cars in my shop, Maniac Musclecars. Some mine, some customer's. We currently have a 69 matching numbers Daytona (wingin it), a 71 Shaker hood B5 cuda, my 70 Challenger R/T SE, 383, plum crazy car, my 71 Cuda drag car and a 69 hemi Roadrunner. Some of my other cars are in the shop for minor repairs and maintenance occasionally so the bird and my cudas and roadrunners are there from time to time. Pics at www.maniacmusclecars.com
The difference is that since I'm down to three people including me, we no longer have the amount of drama that we once did. Back when my son was working with me it was more like Orange County Chopper. My son and I butted heads quite often. We were referred to as Paul and Paul Jr..
Keep up the good work Mark.
Note to Mark if you read this. I'm one of your friends on facebook (Larry Roper).
You see :) I see a difference with this show, because they are doing it (the drama Momma) tongue and cheek. The Chopper program I could not handle at all - because it was a bunch of grown men on the rag, way toooooo much estrogen for me, ha ha. I just wanted them to get on their speedos and start wrestling – (just shoved a pencil in my eyeball). These guys on Graveyard Cars are having fun with it.

Funny Larry I was thinking the same thing, similar cars in the shop, and ironic that both are doing a Daytona right now.
Will have to crank up the old thread on my car again to "boost" your ratings..
Never hurts to have your ratings boosted. Would be even better if I had my own television show. ;D
While searching the web yesterday, I found this Wallpaper pic that someone made. It's the Challenger that I built for my wife, Sandra, a few years back. Kinda wish I had it back...lol
This car brought in quite a few new jobs for us.
Great looking Challenger :drool5: :drool5: :2thumbs: What replaced it?
At the Time I sold the Challenger, we had about twelve Mopars, all running and driving. All E and B bodies. I had also built my wife a 73 Cuda clone with a modern driveline in it. She preferred driving the Cuda over the Challenger. It just drove so much more like a modern car. The hemi was a handful to drive.
Here's her Cuda. We still have it.
Check out this video of the hemi Challenger convertible that I built. You'll understand why she chose the Cuda instead. Like I said, the hemi was a handful.
This video was made by Lucas Mopars in Texas.

hotrod, sounds you you know your crap about cars, way more knowledge than me, but then again it seems like most guys here do! Thats ok I'm learning. winginit's car sound pretty awesome, wish I had the motor for mine. You guys are right, the show is developing and Mark is honing in on shaping the show to appeal to a wide demograpic of viewers while trying to keep it heavy on cars. It's funny that people made fun of you for buying cars when they were cheaper and now they're worth good money. People made fun of me because I did the nerdy thing and collected coins ... still do. I still buy coin collections and can beat the prices of any dealer or "buying Gold" type of ads. Now I have a pretty nice collection.
Anyway, thanks for the input. Feel free to call anytime. (716)549-1756 Tom
Hi guys, Mark here. Just trying to make an effort to keep in touch once and a while. I did post in the car guys that it's just been crazy busy with the phone calls and starting to film Season III. Your suggestions/comments don't fall on deaf ears. I think you can see that since I think most will agree that Season II is better than Season I. I watch myself and what we do over and over again to make improvements. We are working on some really cool things for Season III. Hopefully the stars will align and we can make things happen. Thanks for your support and constructive criticism it is taken to heart. With your help we can make this the best show about the best cars!! Hopefully these pics of Toms Daytona come through. I'm still learning!

well when you get disappointed you can just give it to me :icon_smile_big:
as far as the photo , random photos come up on facebook both the the Graveyard carz and the velocity pages .
you wont be disappointed when you get to quit spending $$ on it and can drive it
I have to ask. Are you going to have the words "Dodge" going back on the wing? Just curious. Mainly because that wing has had that on there for 30+ years at this point. It was on it in 1981 anyways. But then again at that time that wing was on another Daytona too.

You know something, I never thought of that but now that you mention it that might not be a bad idea. I think it was you at one time that mentioned how alot of these cars that had those 70's paint jobs it gave those cars character, and that when you go to the shows the originals all start to look the same. That "dodge" is rather iconic and not that much fix should I ever want to change it. I know it's hot the original wing from that car but it is an original wing none the less. Lets take a poll.... Who says the "DODGE" should go back on the wing ????

Leave the Dodge on the wing. It is always more fun to be different :)
Look at my car, you won't see another one that looks like it anywhere
Thanks to Mark for bringing us beautiful Mopars to look at when they are all in pieces and when they get put back together.
You're right, the paint does set your car apart from the others.
41husk I meant to tell you that your car does look awesome, the black and red wing are a great combo.
So should I go with the DODGE or just get a few strippers to hang around my car to set it apart!! Strokerwedge, keep the chick videos in your posts .. always something to look forward to! :icon_smile_cool:
I am starting to lean towards keeping the DODGE logo, that way I'll remember who makes my car!

And not just at car shows...
October, 1999...5 SuperBirds on the expressway going to Talladega...all say "PLYMOUTH" on them...a trucker on the CB exclaims, "Look at all them DODGES!"
So a few years later I got a Dodge, now everybody calls it a SuperBird.
My dad was with me at the brickyard a couple of years back for the wing car gathering and kept calling all the wing cars "Big birds" I guess the talladegas are "cookie monsters"
At one wing meet at Tallegeda Wingcars were taking a lap they announced plymouth sunbirds

Not that you wouldn't be able to tell an OE Gold car from a nice driver
Joe, The obvious difference will be the dual quad high rise sticking out of your hood and the Corvette style side pipes. :icon_smile_big:

When People stand right next to the quarter panel that clearly has "Plymouth" on it and admire the wing (and even comment on the circular Superbird decal) but still stand right there and say that you have a nice Superbee.... :brickwall:
Yes you would be wasting your time trying to correct anyone....and they would think of you as an arrogant idiot who didnt know what kind of car you had....

Sort of like the guys that try to tell you that 440 blocks and hemi blocks are the same. Just the heads are different :)
So what your saying is I should have some flash cards showing the difference with a brief description and put them under my wipers with a sign that says "FREE take one" :smilielol:

Jeez, you should all be proud when a citizen notices your Daytona Superbird with the Hemi 318 and positrack rear end. :nana:
When I had my Superbird (sigh) I was approached at every move with some guy telling me about how he used to go 250mph in his 440 hemi super bee daytona. :smilielol: I would just smile and talk with them, after all my Dad used to refer to his 68 GTS as an "SS" Dart years after he sold it. I actually found and eventually bought that very same Superbird after the guy who owned it told me some tall tale using the wrong verbage. I always treat anyone who shows interest in my cars with respect. You never know where it will lead you.
Thought last night show was ok, was wondering what he used to blast my car. Wasn't sure if it was going to be soda or something else. Guess it was something else. Would have liked to see a bit more on my car, but it's coming, I'm patient. Thought the stuff on the AAR was interesting since it made me think of the one I had. Don't know if you guys caught it but when they had my car back and the camera was going around it you could see all these little specks of light coming through the floors and trunk. Those were like a piece of lorraine swiss!!

Hey Tom, how much of a lag is there between when they do the work on the car and then air the episodes?
what your watching now was filmed from about oct 2011 ( I think) to this past september. Mark is working on shortening the time frame. That time frame is also somewhat driven by when the network wants new stuff. The show is a work in progress and they're figuring it out.
Ok so there must be great strides of progress on your car , right?
And you're just going to keep us in suspense.. :D ;)
They are doing a final fit/alignment on the nose and then going to paint. I may though try and find some better repro Z-braces. I know I won't be able to afford originals and besides that I know no one would sell a set. I called Rick Farlis who i got my buckets from and going to try and work something out with him. Now I just hope he and i can catch as many details (daytona specific) as possible. I'm trying to do the research, and I do enjoy the hunt, I just hope I get most of it. Mark is doing his also. I'm sure we'll probably miss something though. Thats ok, I never had or have any plans to make this car some "judged" car. All I care about is if I like it.

i was thinking of buying a set of ricks z- braces , are they not up to snuff ?
I know Joe (wingin it) is following your car closely and making comparisons to his own Daytona project. Joe's car is in final prime and we're currently working on the engine, k member, headlamp components and other odds and ends. Joe's car is a rust free, very solid car and didn't need a rotisserie type restoration. It's starting to come together quite rapidly now. Should be painted in about two weeks and then won't take but a few days to assemble.
It's interesting to watch a show about a shop that is doing so many projects similar to what we are doing. I hope they get the show renewed for a few more seasons.

Troy, I tried contacting him several times by phone and email when I first got my car but never got a return call or email. One time I called and heard the phone pick up, but then just hang up, so I gave up. It's to bad because i did hear many good things. I know i couldn't have pissed him off because I never dealt with him. I needed headlight buckets, lower valance and better z-braces, so it's not like i wanted to just buy a $4.00 bolt. Oh well.
Stu, I think Rick headlight buckets should be ok. I did "test" fit them to my nose and they were a bit tight getting them over those tabs that fold down in the opening but they fit. The one end plate did seem a bit long so to speak as it kept front of the bucket from fitting up aganist the nose. Just trimmed the plate a little and it fit. Then again, since I'm new at this I've had nothing to compare it to. Still learning!
Hotrod, your shop sounds great. Like i've said before I get a bit jealous that most guys know WAY more than I do about cars or have a more solid car than mine, but then again at least I have one>
Howdy Tom, was just wondering as your planning went did ya ever consider other colors? being not going oem judgeing how bout Burnt orange ,plum craZy,or some dark red or maroon?? just wondering, saw some burnt orange pic and how few of the mopars got that color?
I saw your car an bird in may and it lead me too months of chasing chargers and 70 plymouths to build a wing clone out of. sure hope to see your Daytona before it leaves the great state of Oregon. all da best on build,DJ :D
Robin egg blue like the chevelles with a pink wing! What cha think?? Never had or have plans to judge, but am going original but maybe with the old DODGE on the wing so it's a little unique ... like me. Not sure yet. I plan on letting everyone that interested to come over, down or up to the shop when I'm there depending on your location in the country so yes you are welcome.
rick fairless does have just about everything for inside of the noses. he is getting some new z brackets made now where they will fit even better, I helped him put a nose on his bird clone and everything fit good. He told me if you buy a few parts he will work with you on shipping. he is the other wing car guy that bought the car off of Zachary. If anybody needs prices or pics I will post them up if anybody wants to see them.
I thought Rick Fairless built choppers and owned Strokers in Dallas. ::)

did not watch last week as i way under the weather and didnt go to tavern too see it. still hoping for more car and less personal crap. may see last weeks rerun thursday an give this weeks another look. still hope for season to improve. :popcrn: :popcrn: :slap:

I thought this weeks episode was on the neutral side. Also was hoping for a bit more on the cars but I'm patient and know what he's trying to improve in S 3. I know they are ready to paint my car but still trying to figure out some last minute details that would be obtainable without any cost.
I have an idea for the show. Maybe they could do a segment each week on someone's Mopar. There are a lot of nice Mopars in that part of the world. Would love to see a segment on Dane's new clone when it's finished. They could do a walk around video and a driving video like they do on My Classic Car. If they weren't so far away, I would take my bird by there and do a few burnouts and a few donuts in the parking lot. ;D
I like the idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a 'critique' of a Mopar by Mark as long as it was more about the knowledge of the hobby and not just being critical. Some could be judged as correct show cars, some as drivers.
Not a bad idea, I'll mention it to him. I just booked a flight to go there so I will be there to do some work from March 28 to April 5th. SHould be fun and I will mention that idea. Not that I have that much say, but I do think it might be fun to do occassionally. So for the oregon guys, feel free to contact me and maybe we can meet up. Here's some pics. Since I didn't have the original hood, Mark wanted to do it as correct as possible so he removed the ribs from under the hood. I think it's in fresh primer. Another of the nose being mocked up and the fender hole.
Just to add to that idea - Mark sort of did this with the red '70(?) with the black rump stripe. Talking about the originality of the car during the segment was cool.
And good to see the progress on the Daytona!
for those wondering, I am getting Z-braces from Rick Fairless. His have the correct indent and will look much better.

can i buy your old ones ????????
His show needs to like American Restoration. They show every item that start with, from beginning to end in every show.
I agree with you somewhat. It would be nice to see one car completed, and if it was a custom job with 40-50 people like Overhaulin it could probably be done. But with only a few guys and trying to turn them back to factory specs. it's physically impossible now. One of his goals like i've mentioned before is to have a car started and completed at least within a season. That would be nice.
That though depends on the time frame. Mark does all the filming and editing out of his own pocket first and then sells the show. So if nobody picks up the show, he's out all that time and money. Now, if for example,a network buys Season 3 at a decent price, he could hire more guys to get the cars done quicker. As long as the network allowed a fair time frame to get the Season filmed, Mark could possibly get teh cars done in each season.
When I'm up there the first week in April I'll take pics of the shop and cars. Anxious to see my car!!
I think American restoration has about 15 employees ? I wish Buzzard Beak would add a few more employees and he could really turn a car around and a Big dollar. he could then would own the Mopar TV world.

GREAT NEWS FOR US FANS OF THE SHOW AND WING CARS
GREAT NEWS!!! With the wild success of GYC season II, Velocity channel has officially licensed Graveyard Carz for Season III or G-3 I call it. We are in full production as we speak. We don't know when it will begin to air but when we know, you will know. Thank you to everyone that has helped me keep our Mopar dreams alive! ~Mark
aka: ......Stu
Dj (david) I was glad you stopped by, just felt bad I couldn't show you more and that Mark wasn't there at that time. It was a VERY busy but fun week. Wish i could have stayed another week to help more with assembling stuff.
This will be redundant to some but this is what i posted in the car guys forum;
Well, just got back from a week at Marks shop. It was a blast. Once I get my pictures resized I will post them. I also took my video camera and had Mark do a small personal video message to all on this site. THAT I will have to have a friend figure out and post to youtube. Once I do, I will provide the link. To all the guys in that area, I apologize for not contacting you bit it was really busy. Next time I'm up should be a bit more relaxing.
I think most of you have the general idea about the show. Yes he is a small guy doing this on his own with his own money for very little profit. So yes of course you see sponsors that help in various ways. IF you were in his shoes, you ALL would do the same to get the help needed to produce the show. If you say you wouldn't you're lying to yourself. One of the first things I asked Mark when I got there last thursday was "what the heck was up with last weeks episode"? He chuckled and laughed and agreed that is wasn't that great but due to his agreement with Velocity and the fact that the parts he needed didn't get delivered on time he had to provide something. But it was true, Daren was pissed. SO instead of bitching, consider yourself a bit privileged on that bit of inside info.
My car looks great and will probably be painted in a week. I did alot of grunt work ie: grinding welds, using the DA to sand the inside of my lower valance so when It's painted the inside will look smooth like steel. Went thru my pod of stuff to help with the inventory and lots of other stuff. Also helped him with drywalling a building he needs to make for the whole editing part.
As far a the owner being upset of those "incorrect" daytona wheels being impacted on and off the cuda, I'm not. First, the trims rings are safely tucked away along with the center caps and I realized (correct me if I'm wrong) the the very lip should appear black once the trim rings are on. I believe I'm correct because the rim should be painted black steel? I think thats it anyway. Second, here's why I'm not upset ... Mark didn't get them, I did, in fact here's the best part Coker Tire gave them to me for FREE. Tires, rims, valve stems, center caps and air. All mounted and balanced and sent to Mark. I made the contact, I made the promise to give them a plug so I"M not going to complain. I couldn't be Happier.
You guys are correct that he does have two guys helping with the bodywork and he said he is going to show them more. Mark and his guys (derrick and Lucky) were great with me because they had my nose fit perfect to the Z-braces that came with the car but I changed it and ordered a set from Rick Fairless. They re-fit the nose with the new braces and didn't complain once.

That's great you were able to work on the Daytona a bit, it is rather fullfilling to know you had a hand in it and can reflect on your time making it better. Nice to know the car will be painted soon. Outstanding situation that Coker gave you the tire/wheel combination and all you have to do is put a plug in for them...... :2thumbs:

:iagree: , but I'm sure Larry wouldn't mind me comin' down to AR and putting my pink skin to work !
And I'm a bit jeleous on the deal you got from Coker , I just bought a whole set up from them ( rims, tires, center caps), and I'll I got was a DC discount... :'( . Not that I'm complaining, of course, but free would be better :yesnod: :icon_smile_big:
I may have gotten a deal from Coker, but it seems like you have a much better Daytona than i do. I'd rather have the better Daytona! Coker was great to deal with. OK, I'll try posting some pics but I keep getting an error about already posting them? These are also from the car guys forum. Just a general question ... should I post the same thing in two different forums or does that waste your guys time? Just wondering.
You have to change the name of the picture to post it here and the aero section. :2thumbs:
Looks like decent progress, good to see it's coming along nicely... paint in a week that's great....
Keep posting here - I'm not on that site.

i hope you continue to post them here. some of us are aero snobs, and don't venture to the other pages.
None of us are snobs ! lol Here's a few more First is the frame rail they had to replace. They still have to finish grinding the welds and getting it to look as factory as possible, Second shows a couple other cars in the shop but also my deck lid, fenders, Third just a nose shot and fourth the underside. If it wasn't for the XX in the vin, this car would have been scrap.
Looking good Tom :2thumbs:
Felt weird not having another episode of GYC's on TV last night.........
It was odd not watching it. I was watching the last episode with Mark, the guys and his wife at a pizza place last week, but I really didn't get in to it since i was thinking of a millon other things. To bad some people don't lighten, Mark and his family are great people, despite what they may see on the show.
Lookin good Tom, can't wait to see some paint ( bet you can't wait either) :yesnod: :icon_smile_big:

quick question , see green arrow in the picture below , whats that hole for / doing there :scratchchin: cant remember seeing it on any other 69 :shruggy: :popcrn:
also , i don't mean any offence & i'm not picking on / undermining anyones work ,
the spare hold down bracket looks a little too far to the left , will that matter , ie spare tire hitting filler tube :scratchchin:
have a look in the second :scratchchin: picture
?repo trunk hole wrong spot for tank sender wire .Or a gas vent tube
Don't know what that hole is for, probably something from the repro trunk floor as pointed out. I will ask Mark to double check that Since he has another AMD trunk floor in one of the storage pods. Thanks

Def alittle to far to the left, and the hole ????? The sending unit wire goes thru the lower trunk floor to the right of the bracket.Good place to put the air shock valve !!!!LOL
Wooops,as seen in the pic of the yellow orig trunk floor.
If you look at the location of the bracket in the "yellow floor" pic and then the new floor pic you can see the bracket was welded too far to the left. It looks to me like the hole in question would wind up under the top of the bracket if the bracket were welded on in the correct spot.
Ben
The hole reminds me of the 68-70 B body Ply long gas vent tube hole.

I'm sure that true, I can't wait either. I think the more magical moment (for me anyway) is going to be when it actually sinks in that I'm driving a real daytona. Just wondering how paranoid I'm going to be about other drivers -- always looking in my rear view mirror!

Ha, yeah I'm with you Tom. So while you're driving you newly restored limited edition 69 Dodge Daytona simply repeat the phrase , " It's just a car, it's just a car, it's just a car" :yesnod: ;D
drive it like you stole it.
(or snuck it out of the garage, in my case from days gone by)

Surely.
Some may think I have been a bit of a hater on GYC. I have been going by what I saw on TV - which Mark put there. I haven't been Facebook friends or been to the shop so I haven't been going on anything but the TV show. Early on I knew it was 'dramatized', that's easy to see - but how much? Couldn't tell until I got to know the show and crew a little.
Over time I've parsed out some of the behind the scenes dynamics of the show. I've also seen some just plain poor behavior on the show, beyond just 'garage humor' imho. I'm sure behind the camera Mark is a great fellow and all, but in front of the camera I'm not so sure even now. If the drama absolutely must still be there it would be cool seeing the guys trying to 'one-up' instead of put-down'. In general I do love the show for the Mopars but would definitely like to see less ego involved and more actual car work.

I think it looks awesome also. Sorry to not post them, but I didn't know how to get the picture off facebook. You're talking to a guy that still has a flip phone! Mark is going to work on the overspray areas shortly. I'm VERY stoked about it! I am going to enjoy driving this. Already told my girlfriend that it's getting a full tank of gas and we're going to keep driving till we have to get more!! Thats why I'm not worrying about everything being perfect. I said to Mark to get it as close as possible within my budget I had ... Mark is doing even more than I expected.

Troy, don't quite know what you mean about the valve stems or clear plastic coating??? I am looking for something for the front when I drive it. I'd like to find something like those jelly type decorations that stick to windows. Some kind of small sheet of it that I can stick to it while driving, then just peel off when I get to my destination, and stick back on when I head home.
Know of anything like that???
Tom, Troy meant to just check the valve stems on the tires so you don't have a tire issue with all the miles your going to drive.
As for protection, what about pallet packaging wrap?

no it wont go on and off its a clear film that protect the nose from scratches and bugs and rock chips , but once you pull it off you would have to get a new one and at 500.00 bucks you wouldnt want to do that
Yep
Hey, R4Daytona, I'm looking at going down to "The Function 4 Junction City" show and shine Saturday. Was wondering if Mark is going to have some cars their? If not, was thinking of driving by to see the progress on your car.

r4daytona... the Daytona is looking really nice
Shows how I'm out of the loop !! I just saw that pic. Thanks for posting Stu, I didn't even know it was on Facebook as I rarely use that. Funny observation about the Roadrunner  I had my first thoughts of "Holy shit" because or fear of scratching it or swirl marks from cleaning it. Biggest fear is all the deer by me. I live 600' from Lake Erie in a somewhat secluded area surrounded by woods. I already had one deer just run right into the side of my car and had another one sort of jump over the trunk of my car, and this was NOT during deer season.
Seriously, they do a great job. As I've stated before, it's not going to be like Gene's.... I don't have the patience, the interest or the budget to accomplish what he did with a car as rough as mine was. But i can tell you this, Mark and his guys have gone above and beyond.
I'm planning on being there for about a month this summer (still working out time frame) but when I am I would like to get together with anyone interested. I'll supply the Hot Dogs but you'll have to bring your own rolls... hey I'm doing a Daytona, I'm on a budget!! :smilielol:

Shows how I'm out of the loop !! I just saw that pic. Thanks for posting Stu, I didn't even know it was on Facebook as I rarely use that. Funny observation about the Roadrunner  I had my first thoughts of "Holy shit" because or fear of scratching it or swirl marks from cleaning it. Biggest fear is all the deer by me. I live 600' from Lake Erie in a somewhat secluded area surrounded by woods. I already had one deer just run right into the side of my car and had another one sort of jump over the trunk of my car, and this was NOT during deer season.

I'll expect my plane ticket in the mail with the monthly check as usual
Do you need a tickets to ride an ultra light? I'm getting tired of writing those checks since they're less than the postage. Probably time for a raise huh? :smilielol:
Car looks great Tom :2thumbs:
The color combo is definitely going to be killer, and I'm not traditionally a big fan of red.
But the white wing/interior is the perfect contrast for the color.
When's the ETFT ( estimated time for take off :D ) ?

Still not sure, they are assembling a cuda I believe, then mine. I'm hoping for the Nats but not sure. Maybe if I get there right after my school lets out I can assist in getting it done but with allowing for shipping back to my house, it would have to be done by the third week in july.
My friend is building the motor. He knows his crap about motors and trannys. 440 Source gave me a bit of a discount for their Alum Stealth heads. That along with a few other things he's doing should give me around 450-500 hp. Decent for the street I'd say. My friends 440 is dynoed at 685 hp 700 ft lbs torque on pump gas.
Retro Radio did a conversion of my original and it turned out awesome. All set up for Ipod, mp3 and all that other electronic crap I don't know how to use. The chrome front had a just a couple very small pits, he said he didn't like it so he gave me a perfect one! Great people.
Yes, for all the complainers, I'm giving a couple plugs.

Great, hoping mine will be done within the same time frame.
You'll have to let me now how the radio works out, I've always wanted to do that.
Motor sounds killer, is it the original?
Unfortunately it's not the original motor. It is though out of a 69 charger RT with a date stamp that matches my car. I know there's plenty of people that will debate the date being too close but when I talked to Galen he said I shouuld find a date as close to my build date as possible so thats what I did. The motor was actually newly built when I bought it but my friend is changing things so I have a new cam/lifters and timing chain and gear that I want to sell pretty cheap. He's putting in a bigger cam and I just don't want to see that stuff go to waste or get rusty. How's yours coming out. If you have pics feel free to send them to hwtap@yahoo.com

Mine was going to the trim shop last week getting seats and headliner put in.
No recent pics , but I did get a mysterious e-mail that said , " The sound of a 440 block" and a video attachment.
Lo and behold it was a video of my car starting up since before the resto.
Sounded pretty good. :yesnod:

Hello everyone,
Sorry I haven't been on in a couple months. In full swing of making Season III which, of course you will see some revisions thanks to some input provided by some members here. I'd like to verify what Tom (R4Daytona) has said. The production of this show done out of my own pocket, with no Production or Technical help from the network. The help I get is from the viewers and people like yourselves so I takes a little time to see changes. Filming is done MONTHS before the show airs. Unfortunately, there are some, that for whatever reason, no matter what I do, will not like the show. They will hate it just for the sake of hating it. There are just some people like that. Just comes with the turf so to speak. This show has, and does, appeal to a much larger demographic than just us car guys (and girls). We are always trying to improve though.
I do run a traditional shop while building this show. That extra bit of business helps with the bills. I'm sure plenty of you have shops or have worked at one so you can understand what I mean. I'm not rich, I'm just a guy who loves Mopars who thought of giving this a try ..... and I had to learn everything myself! From knowing what kind of cameras to buy, to how to film, edit and produce it in the format acceptable to the network. The format that must be followed looks something like and video/ electronics physic's manual. I know, odd description, but it's very intimidating to read and understand.
As I posted on my Facebook page we do have Bill Goldbergs GTX convertible here. Very cool car and very cool guy! We also have the jump car from the Dukes of Hazzard movie and talk about a contrast, a 68 slant six to a 70 hemi charger! The AAR turned out great and I hope Chris enjoys the final assembly. He wanted to do that. The Black 71 is gone and burning up the road I hope and the Daytona is looking awesome!
You know that phrase "you gotta walk before you can run"? I guess you can say I feel like we've been walking but are starting to step it up a bit. Season III we will hopefully be running!
Mark

Sorry for the redundancy but here's what I posted in the car guys. I love cut and paste!!!
Well, I am heading to Marks next Tuesday for 5 weeks!! A bit torn though ... never missed a 4th of July at the beach with my daughters and being that they are 19 and 22 there may not be any more. I've never missed a B-day with my dad and he will be turning 81 while I'm gone. But then again, I'll never have something like this happen again. I don't want to be overbearing, but I'll see if the local Oregon guys can have some kind of get together. Dane, I want to see your car. I will try to post a bunch of pictures while there as long as they have a program to make them smaller. I finally figured out how to do it with MS Paint.
I would bring my clone down but I haven't done anything to it this year so its just as rough as it was last year. I'm driving to Detroit at the end of this month to finally pick up my wrecked Daytona from new foundland. I planning on being back on the 4th of July. Maybe ill bring it down so you and mark can see what I'm wanting to bring back from the dead. Wing cars rule!! :2thumbs:

Salem is in the middle between Portland and Eugene. Give some dates. You could hit some shows that I may be going to. give the actual dates that you are here. You might be here over Mopar Nationals.

Dane going I'm flying in this Tuesday and leaving July 31st. Having my kids and Girlfriend come up on July 25th. It would probably be better if you told me what show(s) were good or that you were going to be at. I'd just need directions. I know Mark would get a kick out of your car if you stopped by. I'm sure we'll figure something out.

well here's a few pics. Sorry not as good as Geno's picture taking but you'll get the idea. Now to clarify for the haters and pick it apart people..... we still need to adjust the panels, get our undercoat pattern and several other details finished. This is just as it is now!!!! By the way ... holy crap it's hot!!! A few from the outside, I tried to get the decklid to show the spot welds that show thru like some did. I thought that would be cool.
a couple of the underside. Guess I resized them a bit small, I'll make the next pictures bigger.
thanks for sharing. hopefully you make a copy of each file to resize, so that you have the full sized originals for prosperity.

Tom, are you going to mask off the Daytona's fenders on the inside, then undercoat the car, then either pull the tape off or the fenders? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the R/T front clip was still on the car and it had its regular wheel well undercoating installed, then, once delivered to Creative, the fenders were replaced with fresh Daytona fenders with NO undercoating? So, in essence, the inner fender of the Daytona still has the undercoating on, but the fenders were nice and clean....................
T
As a side note on undercoating. The front marker assemblies were taken off the 69 fenders and put on the Daytona front valence. The F6's had the undercoating on them still on the inside and a real crappy tape off job for when the front clip got sprayed. Part of the refectors were over spayed badly.
You guys are too picky on these little details. :nana:

Stopped at welbys monday out front was a 67 ragtop with the top down,as i park i see its not just a 67 belvedere its a 67 gtx with hemi an 4spd with top down, never seen that one in town before.. talked to mark, josh and r4daytona owner our very own TOM. still in shock an having flash backs bout all the cars i saw there, more info on other graveyard thread.
talked to tom an saw some stuff getting ready too bee put back on his daytona. but will leave details for tom to picture an post.. but he is looking for imput an wants to go to some shows while out west. what show will more members here bee at 7/20 salem or 7/21 woodburn ??
well stu his daytona is going to bee the smoothest, pretty red Daytona driver many will ever see,, i swear.dj ;D ;D :yesnod: :yesnod: :popcrn: :popcrn: :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :coolgleamA: :coolgleamA: |
Troy, yes we are going to mask off the fenders for the undercoating. It is going to look right. DJ is correct, I am on a budget so I'm not going for perfection. Stu is close when he says "driver" but I can tell you that it will be more than that for sure. I am going to do more to the motor ie: alum heads that have been worked over, cam, balanced, carb. I was going to get an alum, intake but it just isn't quite close enough for a factory look so I'm probably going with the original that shows a correct time frame casting date on the manifold. The coil though will be just back. I'm getting a Pertronics 40,ooo volt unit and going to take the decal off but Mark doesn't have the correct stamps to make it look original. Oh well I say! I'm fine with that.
It was a single stage paint like original versus a basecoat/clearcoat. It looks great!

Hi guys, been a very bust few weeks. Lots of fun and LOTS of work but it's been great being able to work not only on my car, but help out with other stuff. My suspension pieces are all done and we're ready to put the front and rear suspensions together. I didn't bother posting pictures of my suspension parts because that would seem a bit boring just looking at some pieces and parts. So I figure I'll have put in about 350 hours here, what should I charge! LOL just kidding, Marks helped me out so the least I can do is spend some hours here helping. Now some of the haters will say I'm crazy but it has been alot of fun and I do intend on coming back to give and extra hand when he needs it or when I can come up. Josh and I took Mike's Superbird's front and rear suspension apart. Don't worry Mike, all the parts when into one container so nothing got lost and I took a bunch of pictures of all the markings so Mark and put those back on. Spent a little time the last few days helping take an all original 3rd generation charger. Every screw is being taped to the hole it came out of (EX: trim pieces) so it all stays together. Like I said, been alot of fun and I plan on coming back to help. Anyway, off to a show. Tom

Sounds like you are having a blast. What do you think of my plum challenger? Hey. I finally got the 440 engine from that guy in California. I was asking mark about it one day on the phone and you were with him. I think you know the background. Well, it seems good so far. Will be firing it up next week. Ok. Have a great time out there. I need to make the trip eventually.
Garth
Jeremy, it was great meeting you today as well and I want to thank Dave for introducing me to people. Thanks Dave. Garth, your Plum Challenger looks great. I know that sunroof was a challenge but it seems like they got it right! I am partial to plum crazy since my first mopar was a 71 satellite, tunnel ram with 2 615's etc. and it had two pearl stripes running down the side of the car. Now of course I'm partial to red! lol Still can't remember the names of most of the people I met today, so no offense if I forgot names.

Actually, I haven't seen them taking parts off it, at least not in the time I've been here. That will be a killer car once it's done.
AAAHHHH - I missed everyone. On my way home for the Mopar show in Salem my 3rd gear would drift in and out in my trany. Not anything related to the power or the HEMI. It was one for those springs internally had too much tension causing some internal problems with line pressure - that was just best taken care of before HAN by taking it out and fixing it. Well, here are those pics and I do have to say it does take you back in time. I also have to say that I always thought the back tires need to be bigger for those huge wheelwells and this just proves it. Thanks dave for the idea.
:drool5: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5:
What size tire/brand and wheels are on the rear now?
the rears are 28x10.5 x 15 goodyear eagle slicks on 15 x8.5 no name slots,,in my living room mancave house..
fronts 205 x 70 x14 on US indy slots 14 x7,,bout 24 tall 6.5 tread wide, next too other 15 x10 slots by my tv.
i cleaned them up for pixs with my dartona an trans-am an Toms daytona, then back in the house.i put some american centers on for pixs ,first set i ran accross in good shape.
so the rears are 4 in. taller an 4 wider than fronts.was just for fun an too give Tom an followers an idea of different look wheels make in filling the fenders. an it got me back in too drool looking at the daytona an all the mopars in the shop..
Hey where are my support team checks???????????????lol, lol :icon_smile_question: :icon_smile_question:

X3I like the magnums with the redlines on your car. Match well. Are those radials? What size did you end up with?
I was thinking about it on mine, as it originally came with redlines, but didn't like it against the yellow too much.

no last projected date i heard was january ?
Yes, that is me, Uncle Fester in the back with the video camera. The blonde is my girlfriend, my kids don't seem to be in that photo. I think the redlines match very well .. at least for the red. As far as tire size. I went with E70-14's front and G 70-14's in back. Once I get some money I'll probably get something a bit wider in a 15" for the back. I am going to wait though for a couple years to show the car off as it is and as it was done on the show.
The haters can hate, but it's turning out great! No rhyme intended.

I think I said it before, yes thats me with the untanned legs, my girlfriend, Steve ( just a fan from Iowa) and Daren. Steve was a great guy. It was his 55th birthday so his wife planned for him to come up for a couple days and meet the guys and help out. Very nice guy. I got my carb and washer motor back from Passion4mopars along with my Jack that Bill helped me out with. They look fantastic. I'll try to get some pics up in a day or two.

yeah there doing a new show about a guy who build his dream car of a hemi daytona and sold it to buy a 66 corvette :nana:
Just a couple pics I finally resized. The Carb and wiper motor were done by Kim and Jerry at Passion4mopars. Really nice people on the phone. Her price to do the wiper motor was cheaper than a local electronis place I've used to rebuild a few starters, and the local place wasn't goping tp replate it.
The jack modification was thanks to (bill) billsuperbird. I think it looks awesome, I also got the handle from him.
The other was just a pic of me holding the stripe in place as Mark installed it.

:popcrn: Car looks awesome !!
The color sux in that video. I assume the car was painted the correct orange for that year and not that sickly pinkish reddish faded glory look in the vid. I'm assuming there is a way to set proper white balance into a video camera but either there isn't or most videographers don't care/don't know how to set it up correctly as I see horrid colors in videos all the time.
Benji
i havent watched the video, but i was broadcast television for 20 years and i can tell you that YES margaret there is a white balance is most all cameras now a days, but some colors that are close together on the color wheel mix with each other. I had a twenty thousand dollar panasonic dvc-pro camera (before the new tape less cameras) and it didnt matter under what lighting condition i balanced under, blue shirts always looked a hair purple, and nothing i did in the camera fixed it. had to fix it in post.
using the word assuming when you know good and well there is, well there is another word that is close to that
okay i just watched the video, yeah i would ASSUME there was a white balance on a camera that was shot on top of a steadicam (or something similiar)
I just watched that video ... didn't know it existed. I think that was just on of the guys screwing around. I always think the reflections in nay cars are cool.
to me, it didnt matter at all if they were screwing around or not, having gone through what i have gone through to get my car built, as you have, hearing somebody nit pick the stupid color on the video is wrong, instead they should be telling you how great your car looks

The stripe is installed incorrectly.
The "Daytona" letters should be centered top to bottom over the body line.
The "Daytona" letters are too low.
The stripe is not centered under the wing upright.
Too much stripe showing behind the wing upright, and it
appears that the front of the wing upright extends past the front of the stripe.

I think it looks good also. It's to bad there's so many guys here that all have concourse 1,000,000 point cars. Compared to what it was to start, I think it turned out awesome and far exceeded what I was paying for. I never wanted or will ever want a show piece that I can't drive, thats just not for me. It's to bad that people want to knock something as soon as they see it. The shine on this is to bright, the shine on that is too dull, the finish on this piece was wrong. Well the rear end was powder coated, Mark and I talked about painting it, but I decided, with his advice, since it wasn't going to be a concourse car to powder coat it. It's more durable, and after I wipe it down a few times, it will dull down. You don't like it - tough shit! The exhaust hangar is being taken care of... something already planned BEFORE people chimed in. As far as the stripe that I helped install, perhaps I pulled a little to hard to get it to adhere and it got a little low, but I'm sure ALL Daytonas were identical. As far as the tilt and centering - you're WRONG. I went off the photos I have of the car.
If people want my car to be perfect, feel free to send me some money and I'll make it just as you want. Otherwise, kiss my as.

If you're happy with a crooked stripe...
Good for you. ;)
By the way...
I was just trying to be informative. :shruggy:
Here's the stripe on your car before it was sandblasted and primered by the flippers,
Please note that the letters are centered top to bottom over the body line. :Twocents:
Like my dad used to say "if you didn't have the time to do it right the first time, when will you have time to do it right the second time."
Benji
Guess my eyes are bad, looks sort of centered to me and the "tilt" appearance might be caused by the dipping body contour of the bottom body line of the quarter. Tom, out a GearVendor, then you can drive it more with less fuel.

Tom, that exhaust looked and sounded great. You guys at Accurate Exhaust did and awesome job! You, along with many others, really helped put this project together. I couldn't have done it without you and all the people that provided parts and guys from this site with the knowledge they have. If something needs correction, I'll get to it, unfortunately the way some people put it, it seems like they just like to pick at my car because they like to find flaw in whats done at the shop. It is ironic that most of the people that make the negative comments, rarely make a nice one. GYC has done an awesome job.
Anyway, it was a great time up there this weekend. I went up there for two reasons; to get my car at least finished enough and driveable for filming and to meet Bill Goldberg since I helped in getting him there. I was a bit pushy I'm sure, but we got the job done! I was a bit disappointed in not being in a shot with Bill, but I'll be fine. I still plan on going there to help and be that "pesty" customer, but Mark knows my drive is for a good cause.
I've helped Mark alot and he has really done a tremendous job for me so hopefully when this is all done I'll still be involved. I sure hope so since they are really nice people. I couldn't have had a more fun group to do my car. They've exceeded my expectations.
And yes, that was me doing that burn out! I loved every second.

You're right. There are still a bunch little things that need to be taken care of and/or adjusted. The goal this past weekend was to get it done for the season so to speak. As seen in the picture for example, it still needed the front wheel opening mouldings and I need to get the correct length lanyards. Mark and his guys are going to take care of that stuff.
I never would have expected in a million years what has transpired with my car. It's been, and going to be a blast to have it. And to think it all started with a joke I made to Kim at Passion4mopars. They did a great job on my wiper motor, alternator and carb.
Can't wait to see it in person. :popcrn: :drool5: :2thumbs: :hack: :buff: :paintingpink: :drive: :woohoo:

Looks good, but I'm not one for glorifying it in a rolling, lighted trophy case. :Twocents: Doing that in your own garage, different story.
Looks great in there!

pretty freaking cool trailer. a car that is driven, but also gets some comfort treatment. :yesnod:
Is there a story behind the missing C-pillar Charger emblems?
Cool trailer, how much does that thing weigh ?

Is there a story behind the missing C-pillar Charger emblems?
Just one of those things that they just didn't get to yet, like the front wheel opening moulding. Just a bunch of little things that will get taken care of. I just wanted it in a driveable state so it would essentially be "done" in season three. Now I know someone is just going to have to chime in with some kind of smart remark about lying on the show saying it's "done" when there's still some small things to do.
Anyway, that trailer is really cool. I'd sleep in the damn thing if I had one for shows. ALOT better than the tent I slept in at the Nats one year in the rain.
Here's a couple pics. One is me,(hot bald guy in the middle-thats for any hot single women reading this) Derrick on the left (a behind the scenes guy you'll probably see more of - awesome guy) and the big guy is Bill Goldberg - really nice guy - had him sign the underside of my decklid.
The one with my and the guy behind my door is Ron from Legendary. For a bigger guy he was pretty agile installing that interior.
i would have loved to have met goldberg. he's a pretty cool guy. :yesnod:

Hey guys went bye sunday nite ,take this pix add in more darkness an some fog it sure was a cool image. just got home from drooling on the glass of the display trailer an talking too josh bout toms daytona an other new cars at graveyard cars shop.
well Tom it sure looks awesum ,even has afew tar balls from the burn outs. :drool5: :popcrn:   :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
Hopefully this works. Here is a short video I took of my car idling outside the shop before it went for it's first drive. Nothing fancy, just me shooting some video so when I got home my friend could hear the motor. Yes, there are a some things that aren't done yet so the people that don't like Mark or my car can take a chill pill.

Works for me - looking good :2thumbs:
That looks awesome!
Almost there!!! Looks great!!

Thanks guys can't wait till the car is finally dialed in. That was just a rough timing guess by sound! Instrument Specialties did an awesome on the dash. If I had to guess it's probably better than new. If fact, it's the first car I've had with a clock that works! Retro Radio did a complete radio conversion for me. Mike was really cool because my radio had just a few small pits in near the dial and he decided to provide a perfect chrome piece for it. Think I'm going to put a CD player in the glove box.
Do you have some pictures of the dash from Instrument Specialties?
neat little vid. also had a few others from GYC that were on there also. :2thumbs:
well the awsum red Daytona is not in the display trailer now. guessing that means its back in the shop getting some finish work. or the sad possibility it got loaded and shipped east,, well sad for me and great for tom? still dream of that test driv- -- maybee ride in it before it ships thousands of miles away, boo hoo only to beee seen in pix and or car magizines out here on the west best coast.. :'( :'( :'( well guess i will see it some in season 3,, not the same after seeing it come back to life in person over the last few years.. think i need a hug or wing car of my own. i have too see that pretty Daytona again,i just have too,,,time for a pill and some sleep i guess..
Well Tom it was great meeting you and seeing ya red Daytona. lets me know if you ever get back slumming out in back woods oregon again..hahaha later been fun an little sad. DJ :D
Dj, car is still there getting "odds and ends" done. Those guys are really great about finishing up all that little stuff. I would like to get a copy of the judging book they use for reference and learn alot more about all the little details. Dj, I do plan on being over that way again to help with other things. I developed a friendship with Mark and those guys and I'm not the type of guy, now that my car is done, to just say thanks and see ya later. One thing I promised is to help him sort out all the parts cars you see in that back lot. He's got a ton of parts, but it's a pain to look thru them and wastes alot of time. I told him I'd try to sort and organize them so I intend to keep my word.
Any guess as to when it may ship?? i asked dane if he wood bee down,he ask when i did not know? bet ya want it home but now with winter its safer out here than in a truck for a few months,i think.
well i plan to stop over at shop when it gets above 20 ish degrees here, its damn cold and they say worst this weekend down single digits.
hey Tom i sent eee to bee proud new owner of a nose cone for my toy,to go with my tona wing.latter stay warm out on the wroung coast, haha.DJ Merry an happy holidays

Car looks awesome & in the video looks great!
Please get them to get those 1156 inner tail bulbs out of there & put in some 1095's! ;)
LOL I saw what was pointed out by the brightness of those bulbs. No worries those will be changed to match. They probably just didn't have enough of the right ones or those just got put in by accident to do that video clip. Thanks for the compliment about the car. It turned out way better than what Mark and I initially planned for. Still a few little details I want to go over myself that I didn't want to bother them with. Problem is that I now know that car inside and out and have become familiar the Dave Wise judging book he uses as one of his references so knowing my OCD tendencies I will probably go over things myself. Not much really to go over but it will be fun learning.
I will probably get a new side stripe to get it centered and this time I won't pull as hard to get it to laydown. However, the angle and front/back are correct. I don't mind things being pointed out that I can improve, it's the way things are put. Lets face it, there are some people here that don't like my car simply because some people don't like the way Mark comes across. We know who they are .. the first ones to point out something wrong, but never man enough to say something decent. Until those people know him personally, they should just keep their mouth shut.
THe car is awesome and runs like a raped ape! Can't wait to take it to the track!!

Yes, as reported, it just arrived yesterday. Unloaded all the parts that came back, pulled it in the garage, then ran to a friends cottage that had a broken waterline running for go knows how long. Started to make a mental list of the little things I need to finish. Yes, I told Mark I'd enjoy finishing some of the last little things so he left them for me. Thats why I finally bought a propane heater for my garage. The car is dirty from the haul and the move so when I clean it up I will post some pictures. I'm kind of looking forward to doing some more work on it. My weeks this summer at the shop were spent with disassembly, cleaning and reassembly of suspension and a bunch of other stuff. It will be nice to work on some of the "clean" stuff. Still trying to find and electronic voltage regulator that looks like a correct original.

Sorry Guys have not had a chance to do anything - even pictures - do to some blizzard related problems. I know it's not related to cars but heres why. BEFORE my car even got inot my garage, my one friend from W.Virgina called in a panic, he had a pipe burst in his cottage he keeps up here and his step son didn't know where / how to shut the water off at the street. Luckily that house is on a crawl space but everything on the first floor was soaked. Even the bottom 2 feet of drywall soaked up the water. So On saturday I was going to go to his house to fix it and before I left I decided to check my next door neighbors house (he's in florida). He's letting my girlfriend keep her convertible in his garage so i said I'd check on hid house occassionally - which I have. Well I walked in, heard water, looked in the basement and saw about 4 feet of water. Spent all day saturday with the fire dept. pumping it out and then taking his tools to my garage to dry. Spent all day yesterday fixing 6 splits in the other friends baseboard heating pipes - and i discovered one more in a wall! What a mess. So thats why no pictures yet.
Car looks nice though, lots of little things to do which, as I said, I'm kind of looking forward to. I've got to get the tailpanel and sailpanel emblems, switch out the console. Tony, (Tony's Parts) sent a new one with the car so thats going to look great. I'm getting some new woodgrain for the top plates. Mark had a nice used harness for the console, but I told him I'd rather get a new harness for that. Anyone know where I can get one of those? Still looking for a correct looking voltage reg. that is actually electronic internally since my car was converted to elec. ignition.
Hopefully I can start to get to this stuff.

Damn you've been busy, good luck & I hope it thaws out for you pretty soon, you need some of our Calif. weather out there, it's been in the 70's+ :drool5: even up in the mountains this week...
Ok, well here's some pics -- nothing like Geno's but a few to look at. Like I said before, there are alot of little details that I plan on doing that either GYC didn't get to before it was shipped, or I told them I would do. It's unfortunate that I have to start like this but I can only imagine how this will go.
First pic is obviously one from underside. Just wanted to show the overspray because I think it's cool. I'm pretty sure my car had the black out treatment but I'm not sure if I want to do that - might make it look sloppy, but then again that would be correct.
second is the dash/gauges from Instrument Specialities and the Steering Wheel from Tony D. Both are awesome !!!
thrid is the radio that Retro Radio in PA did for me. Mike and Chris are great to deal with. Mike didn't like that the core I sent him had a few very minor pits in tight by the thumbwheels so he got me a perfect original.
fourth just a simple shot of the tire pressure stickers. Dave Patik is who I got my stickers from becasue I've known him for a few years. I do need to get the door sticker from ECS though.
Very nice Tom!
Tom
I saw your car in. Person when I was out there at GYC. Unfortunately my car was still at the dippers. Your car looked fantastic. I took a few neat pics with it in the enclosed trailer. Can't wait to get out there and see mine getting closer to completion. Hope you are enjoying your baby!!
More pics
First shows a little of the front inside of the wheel well. We did the "primer" on the inside of the fender and tried to represent where the bumper bracket would have been by leaving the red showing through by masking it off so undercoat didn't get on it. I think it might be a little larger than it should be and can change it if necessary. Again, never went for a concourse and don't plan on it but if I can make "adjustments" that aren't costly, I will.
Second shows the battery from Antique Auto Battery and the little gap between the apron and fender to show a little primer in that gap. Fender tag is hard to see but the one corner is bent just slightly. Dave Patik sent me the right screws for the tag.
Third engine shot - yes, I know I need the yellow spring for the kickdown. I'm sure some will find some other things but this is the engine I sent. If anyone has some things I can do - feel free to suggest!
fourth another engine shot. One of the things I'm doing is having an original voltage reg. cover sent to Dave Patik and he is going to paint a stamp it correct for my car. As you guys know the repo covers don't go all the way to the base. I have a guy with several originals and the covers fit so I'll have one that looks original but is actually and electronic voltage regulator inside. Thats why my coil isn't correct. MY friend did the engine it has a different cam, roller rockers, aluminum stealth head from 440 source that he did some work to and a pertronix ignition system -- hence the incorrect coil.
I may be wrong, but aren't the heater hoses supposed to cross?

chalk this up to "learn something new every day"... My next question related to this is "WHY?".......
Hey Tom,
The ole' girl is looking great.. Been fun watching it on GYC.. Thanks for the tips on the radio last night when we chatted.........
Detailing suggestion.. I didn't see and if they aren't there, the detailing is pretty much free, the cost of a Sharpie..... The valve covers would have had the last three digits of the part number hand-written on the passenger side and a single digit on the driver's. For the life of me, I can't remember what the "5" on my driver's side was for, but I think Geno eludes to it on his Daytona's thread. For my case, 440 4bbl - 727, the last three digits of the part number for the engine assembly was "917"..... So, I just hand wrote that in a Sharpie on the leading face of the valve cover. I am sure black grease pencils where used back then.......

Yes the heater hoses are supposed to cross.
My next question related to this is "WHY?".......
Check out the 1969 Service Manual, Page 24-4, Figure 7 (no time to scan it in at the moment). They seemed pretty specific about which hose goes to which port on the water pump. Jim/maxwellwedge gets full credit for pointing this distinction out to me. Page 24-1, Figure 1 shows that the heater core has an "Inlet" and "Outlet" designation, but it should still function either way. I don't think the core is a one-way flow or that its efficiency would be markedly different in reverse, but the Manual does show the hoses should cross.
Car looks great, Tom.

In the spirit of the Air Force Maintenance world, that is great Geno !!! page right out of the Job Guide (J.G.) 1-XX29-96JG-1 ( hey, I just made that up for all my Air Force brethren ).... :nana:
Okie dokie on the crossing. I believe I have enough extra to switch their position and have them cross.
Troy and Geno, thanks on the numbers. I though it was suppose to be a 5 but never got a definitive answer. I did not know about the 917.
Not sure if I have the heart to put overspray on some of the engine components like the washer bottle and ballast resistor.
Here's a few more pics.
First a not so great shot of the suspension. I still have to put the dab of paint on the control arm adjustment. The "cosomoline paint" came out great for my intensions of driving the car. Any suggestions?
Second was just nice to find a real NY 1969 inspection sticker. Being the car was shipped out 8-27-69 I went with a Sept punch date. I did the double punch on purpose so it looked a little sloppy. It looks nice with ny 1969 rear plate.
Third just a bit of the wind deflector putty. Not sure if i have to much ?? I left a screw showing just for the hell of it.
Fourth just some proof that the emblem made it on.

Heater hose magazine reference .I got pictures and part# from my original heater hoses

Tom,
what is the screw/flat head looking thing down at the bottom of the window seal? If it is a screw, I would cover it up with the ribbon.
Also, is there a reason I don't know on why the rear of the front spoiler isn't painted? It doesn't look painted in the picture..........
For what I remember, and I might not be sure on who told me, I believe it was Dave Patik or his reference material, was that it was only the front of the spoiler that got painted. So, thats what we went with. I still have to do the yellow for the rivinuts inside the nose but not sure what shade of yellow they are suppose to be. Suggestions anyone ??
For the inspection sticker, compare the 1969, the font style of the months #1, #12 for example - they are more squared off and the repo symbol is in color, the one I have is not. I'm pretty sure I got lucky with an original.
When they were applying the undercoat in the wheel wells. Mark had several page of reference original 69 daytona illustrations.I think he said they were from Dave Weiss.I got similar pages from a restoration book Dave Patik was putting together
The hoses where crossed as said because you would want your water to flow the correct direction in the heater core. What I mean by that is one tube would probably send the water down through the core and the other would push the water up through the core.
On the NY inspection you would want a 1970 decal because the one you have expires in Sept. of 69.
On the valve cover you put 917 on the passenger side cover and a 5 on the driver's side to call-out 440 w/auto.
Ron
Mark used info from Dave Weiss and reference material I bought form Dave Patik.
For the inspection sticker -- all I wanted was something that said 69. My lic. plate is a 69 plate with a 1 69 reg. sticker. I know thats not exactly correct either. Thats what came on the plate so thats what I'm using. I don't care if the dates are correct - they say 69.
Here's something I would like verified by some folks. These are some old Points Voltage Regulators. These were used up till 69 If I am correct? Therefore, these should be the correct covers with the cover bending all the way to the base, rather than the repos that snap onto the base. I was going to have Dave Patik restore and re-stamp the one on the left for my car. Am I correct or not ?
Yes point type regulators were used through the 69 model year. here is an NOS one in the picture.
I was able years ago to put the NOS cover on an electronic type that Year One used to sell but wasn't able to put the Electronic cover on the NOS base.

That's nice....... I think I should look for something for either Texas, or Kentucky since that is where in was sold new.........
On a completely side-tracked note, anyone know Gary and/or an Andy French? I think they were the 2nd owner of my Daytona for a wee bit......
upon closer inspection I noticed the two on the right have a bit difference in the letters. They seem slightly wider and I noticed the G in the right ones have that downward little piece from the curl of the G whereas the one I plan to use on the left does not. So that begs the question - did it matter? One of the ones on right had - 65 VAL - on it. The owner of the yard agreed with me that it had to obviously be a 65 valiant. I just want to know if the lettering difference mattered or was it just a case that some were made at one place using one style of font and some made at different place using a different font. I have a friend that has a superb 69 1/2 A12 that will probably be at the Nats and I'd give it to him as long as the lettering doesn't matter.

Operator error............
:hah: My thoughts too
Hope you guys liked last night episode. It was a bit bitter sweet because I'm not the type of guy that can sit around - I need something to keep me occupied and this has for the last 2-1/2 years. Maybe I'll go back to buying some coins when I get some money- that would help in the process.
I'd like to go back to the shop soon, but need to save my money right now for the shows this summer so there's no money for a ticket right now. I do have something funnier than the "bombs".
It didn't get mentioned but I have to send some kudos to people that helped with this as far as parts and advice. I know there are plenty of decent people providing parts and services - I just want to compliment the ones who've helped me. First, Kim and Jerry from Passion4mopars. Kim was the one who first told me about Mark and the show. They did my wiper motor, carb and alternator and I couldn't be happier. Carb fired right up, plating looks great - they were awesome to deal with !
Mike Saless from Legendary - what more can i say, you saw the show and it turned out great. Ron, the installer was a super guy to work with. I'll probably have my car in their booth at the Nats. Mike Saless said he'd like to show it off. Also planning on their show up this was in Rochester Ny Aug 23rd
Mike Mancini and Tom from Instrument Specialties - as you saw it turned out perfect. I've never had a clock that worked in a car - now i do. Vinyl looks super. It's got to be better than factory !!
Mike and Chris from Retro Radio. I'm sure I mentioned it, but Mike even helped me with a problem with my girlfriends radio over the phone to help me get hers working. It sounds great and can't wait to listen to my Partridge family music during the summer. lol I'm sure most know it by now but my last name is Partridge. lol lol
Mike Reardon form NAPA helped with the front suspension and brakes. Even had the 4 piston calipers which are correct for the car!
Mike Gray from AMD. He was one of the first ones I contacted about my car and the show. Besides the sheet metal I have a nice perfectly clear windshield to look out. Their stuff is really great!
Lots of MIKES involved with this huh?? I was able to keep them all straight.
Dolores Lane from Antique Auto Battery was super to deal with and hopefully you'll see her or her daughter on the show. i contacted them and they seemed interested so hopefully theywill be involved.
Tony Dagostino - I know you're here Tony. Thanks for all your help with parts and answering my questions. You really know your stuff. i wish i knew what you forgot !
Tommy Lee from Coker Tire. Can't wait to burn those back ones off. I still have to make the trim rings have that brushed look but I kind of like the all polished look however, I know that a brushed ring is correct.
I enjoyed the show alot Tom.... I know you're one happy camper.. Like you, I waited my whole life to get a Daytona like my Dad had new ( granted, mine isn't the same color, but I'm about to put in the same motor )..... I know the feeling of driving the Daytona for the first time. I had a camera as well ( my cell phone ), but it wasn't pointed at me in a way for a future television show......... Your experience was, I'm sure, pretty amazing. There are the naysayers and whiners about the show and the "things" here and there they pick apart on your car. I know you weren't expecting a Geno or Tony-scoped project. You got what you wanted....... The car looks great and you are a proud owner of a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona.... When I spoke to Mark a year or so ago about your project, he was very nice and cool, just like us ( except he has hair, we both don't )..... He was appreciative of the pictures I sent him of my car with all its original panels, panel junctions and pinchwelds.
Now, it's Mike's turn !!!!!!! Don't think Mark will be giving him too much of a hard time................... Mike'll put a "Dusty Rhodes" on him... :smilielol:
Tom the show was great, your car is beautiful!!!!

Tom,
it was great working with you, youre very welcome. i enjoyed seeing the car done, i remember when i was out there it had just recently been completed. when you mentioned that you were going to drive your car, i envied you for that. i told you all mine does is hold up a car cover.
btw, your speedo gear is on its way
im looking forward to seeing it in person at carlisle this july

Looks good, but I haven't drilled the hole for the hold down bracket yet. I want to get a bumperjack in place first so I get the scissors you modified me in the correst position. So for now I just place them in the correct spot. Look good though, thank you
Hope to see you and the car this summer.
Tom, the car came out great!
Watching the episode last night, when the Legendary guys were installing the interior, I noticed they didn't put any vapor barrier behind the door panels? have they since done this?
Also hopefully you changed out those inner tail light bulbs by now! ;)

With a 1095............. Thanks to Chris and his light bulb chart.......... :2thumbs:
Yes, bulbs are correct, No on the vapor barrier. Not worried about that though because i can put it on later. I'd be ripping it off anyway. My latches and strikers cleaned up really nice this summer and I wasn't expecting or required replated ones. Like I've said all along, I did not intend on a concourse resto. nor did I pay for one. With that said, Mark did WAY more than expected. Anyways, the car was looking so nice this fall I told them to hold off on the barrier so I could have mine replated. Probably after summer so thats why I really don't care about the barrier.
Thats cool. Just curious as to why they left it off is all. Those little projects are what I love doing now. Little bit here & there at your leisure.
