Thanks, I called Hampton and they said they didn't have their rates figured out yet so they couldn't book - Quality and Days Inn said they were booked.  I took what i could get.  I'm still going to look at Hampton when it's ready.  Thanks Doug

Sounds like Hampton is ready to soak it to people. As it was Days Inn rates jumped between the time I logged into their site to see what rooms they had and 15 minutes later when I booked the room!

Any news as to when we can start registering for the reunion?

Thanks, I just tried to book using the group code for the Marriot Fairfield and it came up "all rooms under this group are booked". I took the group code off and there was one double queen and one king bed room available that required payment in full and no ability to cancel for a refund after 24 hours. Hope I make it, I'm booked !!  :2thumbs:  (and the "non-group" rate was only 3 bucks more..)

I don't believe anyone has received a follow up email after sending photos. Something tells me it's going to be a while until we receive a 'yay' or 'nay' on whether we're invited or not. I think Tim is wanting to see how many and what type of applicants he receives before sending out ticket/confirmation emails. Just my .02

They are going through everyones submissions.  It takes time, and when they get most of them done they'll start sending out responses.  If you have an Aero Warrior car, consider yourself in good shape.  Unfortunately the response has been so high, that there will be less non-aero warriors allowed on the track and such.

Also.... Heads up everyone! A friend just called most of the hotels in Alexander City and they are booked up. They ended up at the American Inn. They even said that the Super 8 overbooked. SO DOUBLE CHECK you are good to go.

Not a computer wiz here.

When using the Browse to load pic's on Tim's site, I see the 2nd upload replaces the 1st picture's listing.
How do you know for sure it's accumulating the pictures and your not just sending the last pic uploaded.
For example if an under car pic was my last pic.

If you have NOT ever done the lap at Talladega previously, you might feel disappointed after reading the news.     However, compared to riding around on the Talladega track apron,  the deal at Atlanta on Thursday blew the Sunday pre-race lap away the last time around.    I think anyone that did Atlanta the last time will agree.   So, I see it as really a minimal loss.

The infield parking deal is at the truck series garage, which is the original 1969 garage area.    It is adjacent to the new fan zone.   With the cars piled in there, the atmosphere should be electric with some good foot traffic to see the cars.   When we were at Indy in 2011 parked inside,  we saw all kinds of interesting team and NASCAR people coming over.

The covered pavilion in the fan zone is 35,000 sq feet and has a 40 foot big screen.    There are concessions and a bar.    The common area has access near victory lane as well.   For $30 a head to get into a Cup race, it's a good deal.

We're not interested in sticking around for the race, so is there any reason to go to the track, or can we even get in without a ticket?  In years past we leave when the race starts.

Just trying to figure out how to plan and what to buy when the acceptance comes in...

Dave, you are going to need a ticket to get in the track.     So if you are not interested in watching the start or early laps,  I think there is your answer.

Doug.. Maybe you know this and can clarify...

I know I need to get the $220 museum tickets and that is for 2 people.. The Speedway Race tickets it mentions $65 per car with a maximum of 2 people per car. So, is that meaning that the fee for a car WITH the two people in it is $65 or is it $65 x 2 for a car with 2 people in it?

You reading a different page Troy.. $200 registration.. covers car and 2 people for Friday and Saturday, other than lunch Saturday and if you want to drink wine $20 each at Wellborn's Friday. Speedway entrance $60 per car and maximum 2 people per car. There are additional meal tickets available for all meals it looks at $35 for EACH meal and additional museum entrance at $10/day. Nothing about extra people for Talladega in the car though.

Respond to the invite email and I'm sure Steve will reply to questions... he responded to my thank you immediately.

There is some confusion where the general info page does not match the ticket purchase page.

The ticket purchase page you log into does say $220 registration for 2 people,  Plus the optional $20 for wine.

Regarding more than two people in your party,  the ticket purchase link says $60 covers all meals for the weekend per extra person.       Museum admission is $10 daily.

For Sunday, the ticket page for the track says $65 for 2 people.     $35 for each additional ticket.

I expect they will do what they always have, which is park the trailers outside of turn 3, near the brand new infield access tunnel.  There is a lot of space back there.   You will be able to go in and out to get loaded up whenever you want.     You won't have to go back to Alexander City.

There is no admission charge to get into the outfield parking areas of the grounds, where the trailers will be parked.    Many people will trailer the cars to the track and  unload on the property, but outside the race track.    It would make sense that everyone unloads,  and we drive in as one group.

Well. I had marked the 3 days for vacation but am 0 for 5 entries, neither the Daytona or the Alaska bird or the Hemi psychedelic or the other 2.  Interesting results, but would have been difficult to get drivers for all of them. Have now marked back "on" for work that week. Send pictures Mom.

You should resubmit your entry or call the museum directly.

One thing you will need to figure out ahead of time is exactly how many people are coming with your party.    They won't be set up to do walk-up sales the day of the event that include food and beverage.

I was able to get in.  I while back I booked a hotel near Atlanta Weds. night so I'm right there Thurs. morning.   Then when were done at the track it sounds like we load up and caravan back to Alexander City?  Sorry, newbie at this one.  Being that I'm a shop teacher I don't get any vacation time so this is going to be out of sick and personal days. The friend that is going to haul my car wants to know if there is anything to do or places to see either on the way there the monday or tuesday before the event, or, on our way home.  We'll be leaving after the race and on the road all day ( Monday the 14th)  Any thoughts?  Just trying to decide if it is worth me taking another day off.

Last thing,  I see that it is $220 for a car and two people, but is that wine tasting thing included in that $220 or and additional (optional as it says) $20.  I don't drink so I'm just wondering if I will pay $200 or $220

Thanks,  sorry about forgetting something in my post.  I asked if there were things to do on the way there or home, but never said where home was.  Buffalo   So we'll be traveling home after the race most likely.  Is there anything going on or any place of interest as we head north towards buffalo.  We'll be on the road all day Monday.  Any "Columbus Day" cruises or points of interest?

I'm coming all the way from Ontario.. 2 hours North of Toronto.. so have similar interests for things to do and keep the wife occupied there and back. She's now 2 years into severe concussion recovery and still can't travel too many miles in a day, so gonna be a LONG trip there and back if things don't improve in the next 6 months.

The Tennessee distilleries  (ex: Jack Daniels) are worthy of a stop that won't cost too much time.
If you plan to cross the border over on the Detroit side, there are any number of attractions within 30 minutes.     You could spend a full day at Greenfield Village or the Henry Ford Museum.

Hi everyone, Just a question. Who has already completed their registration and purchased their tickets?
I understand it's $220 for the event (I'm not into wine tasting so I'll skip that), but do you need to purchase the tickets to the track event on Sunday at the same time?  It is an additional $65 for the vehicle and two people. I have my confirmation email to go online and purchase my event tickets, but I've been procrastinating on buying the tickets since I'm still not sure about my plans for Sunday at Talladega and didn't know if I needed to commit to the track tickets at the same time?
Will there be any way to purchase the track pass for the car and 2 passengers at a later date is what I'm ultimately asking...
Thanks
Scott

Some quick findings today in limited internet time
All Alexander City hotels full
Checked with a number of VRBO sites and their ability to handle truck pulling a trailer is limited (means a no-go)
Looking at Hampton Inn Wetumka or Wind River casino-lots of parking and rooms-anyone going there? We will have 4 rooms, 4 trucks and trailers and would like to stay where somebody else is too. Otherwise Auburn, AL or back up near Birmingham

Trailers can stay in the rig lot for the weekend.   Most of the hotels don't have room for them either.

i have to track down a bottle of this to stash away along with the keepsakes from the meet later this year.

for those not taking part in the meet itself, win a free trip to the race or perhaps to gatlinburg, compliments of the distillery.
looks like airfare, hotel, and spending cash are all included.

No Helmets, just have to "behave" on the track.  Its going to be interesting this time because it sounds like we will have twice the cars, might be better to do two run groups.

If you are going to the track, there is a special ticket that gets you into the infield.  You buy it through the Wellborn website.  Cars will be parked in the original Grand National garage (the bridge).   I am told you can see the cars coming out of turn 4. They have the new covered fan / party zone area that has a very large big screen inside.

We are 3 people coming over from Norway (Europe) to attend the Aero Reunion.

So A rental is the only car we have.

Is there anyone that can give us a lift on the track in Atlanta.
Do we need tickets to the Atlanta Raceway?

Thank You

Does anyone have a two sets of "ride along" tickets they would like to sell?  A friend and his wife had their car rejected and they really want to attend. They're riding along with me, but need entrance to the Museum, mansion, race etc.  please pm me if you can help. Thanks.

Just pull into the shopping center parking lot behind the Fairfield McDonough, 115 Mill Road. Where all our trucks and trailers will be parked at the host hotel.. supposed to be security to boot.

Okay, thanks. If this was mentioned before and I missed it, I apologize. Do we need any safety equipment for Atlanta, helmet for instance? I'm guessing we won't be going that fast, but I haven't been there before and don't want to be unprepared.

If you live in the Seattle area and are going, PM me with your email address. Some folks are on Facebook, some on this forum, not others are not. It's like making a mix tape off records, CDs, 8 tracks and MP3.  Email appears to be the most commonly used communication mode. Maybe we can coordinate our departures and routes.  In the words of CW McCall, good golly it looks like we got us a convoy.

Ok...got a question for all you Nascar guys! When we attend the race at Talladega on Sunday night to cap off our Aero car experience, what time Sunday should we expect to be on our way back to Minnesota? The race is apparently 188 laps in length and I know it's dependent on crashes, flags, weather, etc...but we're trying to figure out how far North we can get on Sunday evening after the race. Thoughts?

Looks like the race is scheduled to start at 2:30.  The April 2019 ran 3 hours 5 minutes 59 seconds with 6 cautions 2 of which were scheduled stage cautions.   :shruggy:

LOL Stuart, she fell cross county skiing in our forest 2.5 years ago, woke up looking at the sky, and then fell again 3 weeks later while teaching figure skating to seniors while doing a backwards figure 8. Been a long haul for her but she's getting better. Was able to fly back and forth to camp with me this summer twice and get her pilots medical renewed herself. She tested herself and while I flew the last time she drove our fuel cache up and then home again while I flew. It's a 5 hour drive and it did her in and was useless the next day.. so we'll probably be about 3.5 to 4 hours each day.. 6 days should put us in Atlanta and we'll see you there!

Check with Steve.. or Eric that seems to be running this event on Facebook. Seems that more and more people are getting p'd off by the minute. Too many cars and people and now where to put them. 200+ cars and 700 + people.

BTW, it's always been NO TRAILERS at Tim's house.

Do they send anything other than th email confirmation? I don't have address for Mr. Wellborn's house. Is it close to the museum?

I understand no trailers and the hassle. Do you think a ramp truck will be allowed? I am bringing the 426 Hemi, open headers with slicks Purple Psychedelic Bird that was the 1970 NHRA summer nationals champion and really don't want to drive it more than a a mile or two on the street-even that has me worried-brakes suck, slicks are illegal, and open headers hemi-enough said.

Finally tons of people do not do Facebook, including myself, and have no access to anything on it-would appreciate one of you guys copying and pasting pertinent stuff.
Thanks

I'm weeding my way through it as I can Bob. I'm coming all the way from Canada and will have no internet access once I leave home. Glad I even found the Warrior FB page a few weeks back so that I have more up to date than Steve from the museum gave me. He told me we got our tickets and registered when we entered Tim's Estate on Friday AM.. now we have to go to the museum on Thursday between 2pm and 7 to register and get our tickets.

At least you've been there, to the museum.. I have no f'n clue where I'm going!.. or any idea where Tim's house is, but I'm sure we can follow the crowd.

Google on my phone took me there perfectly and there is a Sonic burgers right next door almost while you wait. We will get in sometime Thursday afternoon we hope. Might stop there on the way to the AirBNB since it is another 15 miles away.

I just posted this on the FBook page.. so hopefully someone is listening and updates EVERYONE as to what the real situation is.

QuoteHoping someone sends out a clarified EMAIL itinerary to everyone that was accepted to this event, with a finalized schedule, maps of "how to get there", what's allowed and not allowed, appropriate dress for supper, etc. MANY are not on Facebook and Steve advised previously that registration and tickets were to be picked up when entering Tim's Estate on Friday. Many I've relayed the current information with are confused, p'd off, etc that they can't haul race cars, none running cars, etc downtown now for the event, as well as other things.

We'll see you down there. Our hauler is a dark Blue F150 crew cab and gray enclosed trailer.. Ontario plates. Thinking after Atlanta I'm just going to let the wife drive the Bird and I'll follow / lead her with the truck/trailer, since at least it has a NAV screen! LOL

The Wellborn Muscle Car Museum is in Downtown Alex City at 124 Broad St, Alexander City, AL 35010.  Russwood, the Wellborn Estate, is a couple blocks away.  Its about 2 miles from the hotels to DT Alex City depending on where you are staying.  There were a couple people driving unlicensed race cars around four years ago.  I don't think you would have any issues, I'm sure the local police know what is going on.

QuotePam Wellborn = Huge parking abilities for trailers.
250 cars.
650 people
Clear instructions, directions, and parking plans.
Don't stress on the attire. It's optional, but a fun 70's vibe geared to go with your car. If you're like me, half your clothes are still from that era, lol. It could even be a retro T shirt! We are looking forward to seeing everyone!! Can't wait!!!!!
I'll let Tim know about this thread and make sure we are all on same page.

QuotePam Wellborn = the parking for the trailers is super close to the museum. You'll be surprised how easy it is. We will make sure we have shuttles available after the parking. Our old town of Alex City is looking forward to this event. We are looking forward to this event. We pray for good weather, and for everyone to get there safely. Hospitality, making sure the cars and their owners get there is our number one priority. We have worked on improving logistics of parking from past meets and hope you all will be pleased. It will be a fun time, and lots of good memories to be made

QuotePam Wellborn = You are right Angela. But the museum and our house are within one block of each other. The trailer parking is across the railroad track. That may sound far off, but it isn't. A mile from your trailer to your car.

it no longer matters. mine is likely not going to make it there. i knew not to try and change the core support before the meet. it's been at the shop for three months now, and that work is still not done. the fenders haven't been touched, so fitting the nose and valance isn't even possible yet. not to mention none of the headlight parts are assembled.

once the core support work is done, i am bringing the car back home and rethinking the path forward with the rest.

Doesn't look good for that Dane.. there was already a waiting list about a month back. Atlanta Speedway Thursday AM is open to any that show up as far as I know, but everything from there on is sold out.

That said.. I doubt there is anything stopping someone from "showing up" at the museum on Saturday for the "Car show", but there are no tickets left for Wellborns on Friday or the Museum dinner on Saturday.

Just wanted to add to the "convoy " topic. We will be leaving Central Illinois on Tuesday early with the intent of making it just North of Atlanta that night. Wednesday I'll be stopping by Jim Davis' Vintage Metal Works in Commerce GA by late morning to check out his shop and let him check out my 'Bird (he is the guy I bought it from 18 years ago) then a quick stop by Year One to pick up a couple of things and then onto the Hotel along with a shopping stop at the Mall of Georgia to keep momma happy...
VMS, Year One and the mall are all on I-85 headed into Atlanta from the Northeast. Let me know if anyone is heading in those directions or would like to check out Jim's shop.

Test loaded and tie down logistics figured out. Thought it would have been exactly like the Bee but the lower cut rear wheel wells on the Bird make tire strapping "fun"! A couple extra rear straps for panic stops and now to collect spares, fluids, tools, camping supplies, etc for a few weeks on the road with the wife. Managed to get the car placed so there is just enough room for us to sleep in front of the nose if we need to.

Hope to see many of you there!

Wayne,
If you have a folding flap at the end of your ramp door be sure to secure it!
You don't want it to come in contact with the wing and chip the paint!
Ask me how I know about this?

Yes John, thanks. One of the first things I did when I set my new trailer up thanks to me reading that awhile back on your posts. My flap is above my wing..so it can swing all it wants UNTIL it flies off !  :P

I like your slide latch setup!
It looks better than my flimsy eye and hook hardware.

Confirmation for the umpteenth time that you picked the right gal 40 years ago. Not only willing to do such crazy things with me still, it was her idea instead of waking up in a hotel in the morning and looking outside to see that truck/trailer and all had been "tilt and loaded" in the night !

Scott

Looks like we have been cleared to head to Atlanta Tuesday. May tag along if that ok?  Which direction will you be running?  We are coming from northern Kentucky (Cinncinatti) down I-75.

Just curious for those of us going to Atlanta on Thursday...how many will be driving their cars from the track to Alexander City vs trailering them? I know, weather permitting, I'm kinda looking forward to the 2 hr convoy of Aero cars heading down the freeway! Hope the wife is okay driving the truck & trailer!

Not sure what I may do. Driving would be cool but I think I'd feel like i'm "stiffing" my friend that is helping me haul my car down there.  I'll probably just haul it.

i'm looking to see if anyone around here has a little three or four wheeler we can toss in the truck bed to tow the car around once it comes off the trailer.

O yea. Got to keep it on the track when they come available
November 2nd  Kentucky Speedway does there drive the track sale.  Every $40 you spend on next year's tickets, souvenirs or a donation to the track charity you get 3 laps in your personal vehicle. No passing but behind the rite lead safety vehicle you could hit @120 mph.

Well the Bible is printed, the Bee is safely stored elsewhere and other than packing our suit cases we're pretty much ready to go. I THINK I know where we're going and expected to be each day in Georgia and Alabama, after that we're just making it up! Probably like the old days where we'd spin a 2 liter bottle in the middle of the road and take it's advise.

Wife and I are working on our route, as she can only go 3 to 4 hours at a time or the next day is a right off. We were originally going to cross the border at Buffalo, but now looks like we're leaving Friday and staying at her cousins in Arkona, Ontario for the night. Then Saturday crossing the Blue Water Bridge and heading for the Gilmore Museum North of Kalamazoo MI to sign Justin's GTX  :icon_smile_big:, probably sleeping in the parking lot so we can take it all in Saturday afternoon (if we make it before closing) and most likely more on Sunday AM. Off from there the 4+ hours to the Wright / Dayton Ohio AirForce Museum. Not sure if we'll tour it on Sunday or Monday, will depend on arrival time. If anyone is in these areas and wants to meet, come look for our truck/trailer and you know my ugly mug by now! I don't have a smart phone, but if we have wifi I should be able to update using the wife's laptop.

Sounds like your coming down I-75 south thru the northern part of Ky. Just south of Cinncinatti is Florence Ky. If you have some type of phone. (My dads favorite is the good old flip phone that he know the green and red buttons but that another story) It's only about 1 1/2 hrs from the museum in dayton. I can get u my phone number.  We are leavig a day earlier than originally planned now Tuesday.

Not sure it'll even work down there.. but hopefully I can at least send texts! PM me a name and phone number just in case something might work out for a quick visit or we need someone local for help. Questions;
1.  Is ethanol-free premium is available in Alex City?
2.  Has NASCAR given a reason why no laps around Talladega?
Also have nose for sale in Parts section.

When I was there in June several places had ethanol free gas, including 1 on the corner of the Highway from Birmingham (280?) and Lee Street. None were high octane, but you can buy the octane booster stuff right there at the auto parts store. Walmart had no ethanol gas available too-again low octane.

Slept in the trailer at the Gilmore Museum last night. Pouring rain and about 40F. Wasn't too bad while we had power for a small heater but once the "street" lights went out we had no power. Had to revert to the ice fishing gear! LOL Toured the museum until 2:20 today and made it to Tipp Ohio just before dark. Raining again... and with a wife with bad lungs we're in the Holiday Inn with the rig parked in front of our room window! Airforce Museum at Wright Anderson tomorrow and then another 4 or so hours closer to Atlanta if we can before dark

For those of you traveling HWY 280 between Birmingham and Alexander City it is brutal for a truck and trailer during the afternoon rush!
Leave extra time because it will take you twice as long as you might think.
I'm sure there are more cars on that route today than 4 years ago.

The 50th Aero Warrior Reunion had something for everyone!
I had been to Tim's House and Museum before and seen a lot of the cars.
So for me it was the surprise that not only was Bobby Allison going to be there but also Liz Allison!
When I bought my Superbirds I was not a NASCAR fan but a drag racing fan.
When I went to my first DSAC meet in 1978 we went to the Milwaukee mile for a parade lap before the race.
This got me interested into Nascar and I decided to pick a driver to root for.
My driver was Bobby Allison part of the Alabama gang.
In 1988 we were going to a Aero Warrior Reunion and Bobby was going to be our guest.
Unfortunately Bobby was involved in a horrific wreck with a brain injury just a few weeks before the reunion.
He never completely recovered from that and retired from racing.
Bobby's son Davey had started racing and I rooted for him whenever Bobby was out of a race.
My favorite race is when Bobby won the Daytona 500 with Dave a close second.
Then Davey wrecked his new helicopter at Talladega not far from where we were parked for the reunion and died from his injuries.
I cried a lot and didn't root for anyone for quite a while.
So on Friday I wore my 30 year old Bobby Allison hat and my 25 year old Davey Allison t-shirt to the reunion.
My first 2 pictures show some of my Davey Allison collection.
The third picture shows Bobby autographing my event poster and my already autographed hat.
Bobby recognized that hat and commented on how old it was!
My last picture is me with Liz Allison.
Liz also recognized my Davey shirt and was glad to sign it for me.
It was great to finally meet her and be able to talk with her for a bit!
I want to thank my wife Linda for taking these special pictures for me!

I got home last night from Alabama, and started uploading pictures to my Flickr page. Everything is up there, EVERYTHING, I didn't have time to edit since I'm getting deluged in emails and messages.

If you want a copy of any images, please email me at HemiPwr70@yahoo.com with the picture name.  Usually it is somewhere in the bottom left either in the actual picture, or below my name.

I'm not charging anything, but if you so feel inclined to share something, my paypal email is HemiPwr70@aol.com

Enjoy!

When did you get to drive on the track at Talladega?
I didn't know that would happen.  We left around 11:30 because we had to get my son back to school, and the security guard said if we didn't leave right then we wouldn't be able to leave until it was over.

It was taken Saturday night at about midnight in the vacant large white industrial building between River Bank & Trust and the Taco Bell on 280. Just a bunch of 'kids' hangin' around where they shouldn't have been I'm sure! We were there for at least two hours setting up for the shot.

I finally got all my ducks in a row and put up a new video!  This is a walk and talk with the owners of the Charger 500s that were at the Aero Warrior Reunion in 2019.  It was the largest gathering of Charger 500s ever!

In truth, I completely forgot I took this until recently!

Yep, was a good time. Expensive, but worth every 1000$ bill spent.  :yesnod: Put 2602 miles on the truck/trailer and 494 on the Bird that week.

Yep, it was the trip of a lifetime for me.  6,200 miles driving cross county with headers and cherry bombs. 10% of my 500's total mileage racked up in 14 days.  The people, the cars, the events. What a blast.
