I have just acquired this car. I know it started as an XP29NO car but some time ago someone had turned it into a tribute car. It has a period correct Hemi but the Data Tag listing its options is not there and another tag that looks to be factory is there that say "Special Handling Car" with another metal tag from Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum. Any help would be nice. Thanks
very nice :o
hello & welcome !  your car reminds me of this one ! see link below
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,121588.0.html
might be the same one :scratchchin: , that one did have black plexi glass over the rear tail panel , to give it a more nascar look
Wow, that's a cool car.
Very nice looking car.
I believe a "Special Handling Car" fender tag is usually a tag that was taken off something like an old police car at a junkyard to replace something like a missing tag on another car. It is supposed to look kind of cool, like this is special-well it was, but in a more pedestrian way.
Nice build
On this old post there was a hemi daytona replica from florida. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,1955.275.html
Good looking car.
Thanks everyone. I have found some info on this site, and if anyone knows Dfan (user name on here) please let him know.
 Welcome aboard!
Thanks MoparNut
SWEET-!!!!!! Are you sleeping in it? I would.
Here is your 70 Charger way way back
Here it is at Riverside Raceway
It was here getting some work done a while back.
Forget the hemi in that car. It was a mess. Windowed etc. But it does have an original nose, fenders, valance and wing on it.
CSX DAYTONA how do you know so much about this car? The pictures in front of the garage where was that at? And the picture in Riverside when was that? What do you mean forget the HEMI it was a mess???? Window????
Thanks
The garage is at my house. Palm Desert.
The picture of it at Riverside was when the owner at the time came out to the NASCAR race with us. Around 1976
The motor kicked out a rod out of the side. It was in a drag car years ago. Don't drive the car in the rain. No seals on those calipers. There pretty much a race only item.
Like I told the last owner.. DON'T DRIVE IT.. It has a welded spindle. I think it was the left one.
Here is a front end shot of the car at Riverside. That is my silver Daytona in the back ground
Your car has a colorful history in the last few years.
I dropped a car on that hemi. lol
So what is up with the fender tags?????? And who built the car into a Daytona clone?????
This same car. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,86676.0.html
So NASCARXX29 was this associated with Jack McCoy??? If this car was out of the Modesto area?????
And what was the time frame that you had worked on the car?????? And what did you do to the car????

The fender tag and the decal next to it mean nothing to the car. Just novelty stuff. The engine was one of my blown blocks and it was rebuilt in Palm Springs. Ed Westwood was the guys name who put the Daytona stuff on it way way back.

The car was not associated with Jack McCoy. XXCARGUY used to own the car and he knew Bill and Ernie Conn. Father and son who owned the McCoy Daytona. Your car was parked in a backyard in Modesto for so time in the 80s.
.
Ok C5X Daytona I am trying to get this all straight in my head.
The car came out of Modesto in the 80's or 90's then XXCarguy had it, then I guess it went to Navada and then to Indio???? And this was originally the number 97 car that raced in Riverside in the 70's the became the #73 Miller car, and then became the #71 K&K Ins. Car. Am I on the right track?
Interesting stuff! We'd love to hear how you found and acquired this car? :2thumbs:
In due time I will release that information. Just trying to wrap my head around this whole life span on this car.

I know the car was still in the Modesto area till the late 90s. Maybe even into the next century. I don't know when it went to Wyoming, Indio around 2009

Nothing new. Was up on Craigslist the day after it sold at a local public auction.
I love the turn signal lights in this pic, they look like porch lights from a camp trailer.

It's a duesy.
I think the people that got the car in the Challenger swap ended up in bankruptcy or something and the car got seized and auctioned off?

i say just put it back to stock, and sell me the dog house off of it.
i even have the correct 1970 parts to toss in on a deal.
that's a win/win if i ever saw one.....

so you'd finally have the car you collected the parts for, but no parts afterwards?
that's some wonky sounding logic.

Good with details, those attorneys are
Sorry for the delay guys. So yes this car was purchased out of a bankruptcy auction. I have been in touch with the gentleman out of Oklahoma that pulled the car out of the back yard in Modesto and did the build on it into the Mr. Norms Grand Spalding Dodge DAYTONA. This car has been from Modesto to North Carolina to Wyoming and then to Indio, CA. Now it has the Bobby Isaacs campaign colors on it and we are going through the car and redoing it back to the Mr. Norms campain colors as it was originally built. There are some issues that we are taking car of.
That's the plans we have and then putting it up for sale once we complete the restorative work on it.
Any question please ask. I have trace the history of this car all the way back to the folks that owned/raced it out of Modesto.

Don, are you moonlighting as a private investigator? :o ;D
Always being on the hunt for 70 Chargers does turn you into a bit of an investigator. :coolgleamA:

Poor Bobby Isaacs. He has one of the most mispronounced names in racing history.
