Title: 1970 Charger R/T
Post by: smerritt on April 30, 2020, 05:36:09 PM
Hello--The starter motor on my '70 Charger R/T just whines when I turn on the ignition. It will not engage the engine.
Am I looking at a new starter motor?
Thanks

Did you try giving it a wack with a hammer to see if it is just stuck and not sliding forward into the ring gear ?

I whacked it several times with both a crow bar and a hammer. No dice.

Yep, need a starter. And you can replace it with the Mini starter. Easier to handle. You can get them for big blocks and small blocks.   https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mini-Starter-for-Dodge-Plymouth-Chrysler-Mopar-BIG-BLOCK-383-400-440-426-Hemi/264484065586?hash=item3d947a9132:g:PBMAAOSwbn1dk1-I:sc:USPSPriority!62097!US!-1
