What did you guys do that left so many in pain and uncomfortable? I worked as a Carpenter for 36 years and I get around better than guys 20 years younger.
No aches, no pains, I sleep well and still see pretty good with the contact lenses.
I read about guys that have trouble working on cars, how they struggle to get up when laying underneath.
Was I blessed with the career that had me crawling, bending and stretching all the time? Is that it?

13 June 2026

I wrecked my knees skiing runs I had no business looking at let alone skiing on. Just prior to entering the Police Academy in 2004 at the age of 64 I had knee surgery to correct a torn Meniscus in my left knee. I went through the academy graduating and setting the record for the oldest cadet to graduate.

In 2010 I decided to become an arborist working in large trees. Did that for 5 years when my knees started going six ways south of Sunday. Stopped climbing in 2015 ar 75.

Now here I am a bit hobbled up with fake knees and peripheral neuropathy in both lower legs. No more running but get around walking ungracefully. Ain't complaining, have done more than most adults at the age of 86.

There were five of us that grew up together, all five of us went into the military at different times; two in the Army, two in the Navy and one in the Marine Corps. Unfortunately, all have passed on. I'm proud that we all served our country and did't shirk our duty.

Piece of advice: If your knees start bothering you, see a very good knee surgeon. There is a company named Smith and Nephew that makes parts for your knee that will have you up and running in a week. I made the mistake of having shots in my knees which eliminated the pain. Unfortunately, I went too long on the shots to where I wore my knees down to "Bone on Bone." That requires complete knee replacement. Not the greatest alternative.

Maybe so but I'm referring to guys that are my age or younger that are hard pressed to do anything physical anymore.
I knew this guy that by my age, he was so crippled, he walked slower than a WW2 veteran.

I'd love any of the following, in no particular order:

 - 1969 Hemi Daytona 4-speed, R4 with black stripe
 - 1969 Hemi Charger 500 4-speed, B5 with a white stripe
 - 1969 1/2 Six-pack Super Bee 4-speed, Butterscotch with black stripe
 - 1969 1/2 6bbl Road Runner 4-speed, green on green
 - 1970 T/A Challenger 4-speed, B5 with blue interior

I'll wake up now...

Exact opposite.I think the modern ride with ample performance would be more attractive to an older guy like myself. I like being comfortable these days. Life hurts enough on it's own these days without an old car adding to the list. The smoother and quieter it is these days the more likely I am to jump in it.

I've thought about how it might be to have a 68 or 70 that is essentially a "Body over" type job with the outer skin being the only part that is a classic. The entire substructure could be Challenger with the engine being a 6.4 with a 6 speed. It could drive cross country with ease, plenty of comfort, the mileage and reliability would match a new car.
The downside there would be that while the outside looks the same as a classic, you'd lose some of the continuity of an old car with it's old interior. There is a degree of charm to the hand crank windows and knobs for stereo and A/C like the old cars had.
Even if the interiors were left as classics, would the smoother idle of the late model be too tame for a guy that grew up with lumpy camshafts and some of the raw fuel smells that came with that?

Quote from: John_Kunkel on June 12, 2026, 11:29:14 AMAt present, I'm lusting for a different sort of Mopar...a '57 Dodge 2-door wagon with a 5.7 Hemi and NAG1 5-speed auto.

Owner is thinking of selling but I don't have the money. Ironically, this car in stock form was for sale local to me years ago but the seller wouldn't answer my e-mails.
