Title: QA1 front suspension swap? Opinions? Experiences?
Post by: Seabeckredneck on February 01, 2023, 01:42:50 AM

In the early stages of building a Superbird clone, I was keeping it mostly stock other than beefier torsion bars, Bigger sway bars etc. A friend suggested I should concider a QA1 complete front and rear suspension swap since I plan on racing the car. I'm looking for thoughts, opinions and suggestions from anyone that has any experience with this set up.

   Thanks

The stock setup is hard to beat for durability and strength. The K members don't weigh as much as you'd think.

You can shave some weight while using the stock K member though.
I made a few changes that knocked 36 lbs from the front end:
Borgeson steering box 14 lbs. over the Mopar P/S and Fast Ratio arms.
Dr Diff 13" Cobra front brakes. 14 lbs over 12" Cordoba front brakes.
QA1 hollow front sway bar 8 lbs over a solid 1 1/4" bar.
I could have gone with tubular UCAs, that might save a pound on each side.

I don't care about weight, never did. Im using the stock K-Frame. QA1 Tubular upper and lowers, Qa1 strut rods. 11/16 tie rods with Qa1 adjusters and Viking shocks. I have a 70 model skid plate K-frame. I don't like 1 1/4 sway bars so I went with a 1 1/8 Hellwig. It's a real good set up for sure.
