Title: '69 Project Progress Pics
Post by: bill440rt on June 06, 2006, 03:15:59 PM
For those that are interested, I'd thought I'd post some pics of how the '69 I've been working on is coming along. The left side of the car is ready for high-build primer. The left side is currently in sprayable plastic body filler in these pics. The rest of the car (with the exception of the hood), is in the first primer stage. The car is now masked up, ready for primer on the left side. Hopefully I'll get some on either tomorrow or Thursday. I'm using Standox sprayable plastic, & Evercoat's Uro-Fill for my high-build primer. The outside of the car was first coated with epoxy primer after it was sandblasted.

This car has come a long way: RT 1/4, outer wheelhouse, trunk floor ext'n, trunk floor, rear valence & corners, LT door, LT fender, hood, & trunk lid all replaced not to mention numerous small patches & other dents that were fixed.
Once the left side is primed, I'll block the whole car & prime again. Then, I can start jambing the car in & doing the underside. Oh, and yes, I have the fenders for it. They're done, too.

BTW, I'll be soon selling the rear leaf springs & front sway bar from this car. You can get an idea of the ride height from these pics, the springs have very little sag to them. It was originally a 383 4-spd car, so the springs are 5 leaves each. I think they might have been re-arched, though. I have the original pics before the car was disassembled by the previous owner, it had fatso tires on it & the ride height was good. The springs & sway bar were sandblasted along with the rest of the car, & are coated with POR-15.

Thanks!!!   ;D

LOTS of blocking with masking tape for a guide line was the trick. Even harder, is that I did the dusty plastic work OUTSIDE along the side of my house. (Can't do it in the garage, my '68 is in there & I keep the garage too clean!).
I have the car taped up now, but it rained here today. Hopefully I'll be able to push it out tomorrow & prime the left side.

I'm really looking foward to getting some color on this car. It's come a long way from when I first got it. I started doing the metal replacement & bodywork around March of this year. I only get to work on it one day a week or so, but that's life when you have a family, house, etc. This car has been much needed therapy!

I'll post some more pics for you guys as progress comes along.
