Title: Need some help installing frame connectors on a 73
Post by: randy73 on May 09, 2017, 09:19:07 AM
Is there a way to install them without cutting the floor pan and putting a big bulge under my carpet?

Yes. But they can't be fit straight from the rear frame rail to the front section like earliers, because the isolated kind T bars crossmember is in the middle

I started a thread askimg about what ppl would do LOL.

I have several ideas about, but finally decided to go with just torque boxes.

Can post my ideas anyway.

I already posted my ideas, somewhere thought LOL

On 3rd gen board started a thrad about the same too.

Well I bought Competition Engineering's for 67-74 B-bodies and they do not fit and so I asked them what to do for a 73-74 w/longer torsion bars. Their reply was they were meant to be used with their rear frame rails, which they show in their drawings but do not state in the instructions. So I sent them back, Summit Racing was great about taking it back and even paid for shipping when I told them what happened.

here is the deal with 73/74... I draw over an earlier assembly view and my idea about

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,126918.0.html

no need to cut anything, but just add this rails just like the ones offered by MP... structural 2x4 ( or so ) tube between front and rear sections, BUT diagonally instead straight... would need to be custom made of course

another idea could be weld a frame rail section between rear frame rail end and rocker ( just right where the torque box is ) to create another support point there and then a straight frame rail from there up to front unybody section at a side of the T bars crossmember.

those were my ideas, but then, also began a thread asking about torque boxe utilities and frame rails, and learn the rocker panel is indeed a very hard structural section what works like a frame piece, and torque boxes links both front and rear rails to these. This is what have being made on convertibles, so why wouldn't work on roof cars ? no need for suibframe conectors then, unless your are gpoind to the track. So a stock solutions and a cleaner view...

Thanks Bob, they were very nice and said they would need a 73-74 to build a set.

They made those long time ago, but it seems some customer got them and claimed they didn't fit, so stopped to offer them.

About if 73/74 got them as an option? Dunno, would need to search on my parts catalog, but if you ask me the 71/72 is the same underside than 73/74 at least for rear torque boxes. Maybe fronts could be diff but pretty sure rears are the same.

We build those locally modeling those straight to my car

Thanks Nacho, I ordered a full set of torque boxes for 71-72's and will see what it takes to put them on the front of a 73.
