Well,, looks like perseverance has finally paid me a visit. As many of you know, I've always wanted an aero example of both Dodges, a C500 and a Daytona. Well, as you have followed over the years, my '68 Hemi Charger R/T and Dana, my '69 C500, turned themselves into a Daytona, like the caterpillar to the butterfly. I've had my 2nd '70 v-code Charger for many years now in the hopes of one day making her look like my 1st '70 v-code Charger R/T, White Lightning.
Well, in the spirit of not being able to have them all, I will be trading my '70 six pack Charger R/T for a '69 Charger 500. I will have two XX29's in the garage !!!!! It is a Y2 440 auto with the A32 Super High Performance 4.10 Dana, just like my Daytona. It has black interior with a black stripe, granted the stripe on it now is a Daytona version. Right now, my plans are to get her home. The owner and I haven't figured out the transportation of the cars yet, but that'll come with time. This has pretty much transpired/developed in the last few days. I have a special place because of Dana and the future new owner of the '70 has a special place in his life for the '70 as well. So,,, both parties are happy and pleased with the situation. And, that's all that matters. The cars will both be getting good homes.. :2thumbs:
Now, the C500 in question may be known to some. I please ask you to respect the wishes of the owner and not post a complete VIN or owner's name/location. I have spoken to the owner about placing this thread so I could start a new story here for me and he's cool with it. He just had the understandable previously mentioned request. Once the trade has been finalized by the cars being where they need to be, I'll make the C500's VIN known..
I'll probably convert the car to a 4-speed since I enjoyed Dana so much and after all, it was going in that direction already. I'll make a future decision on the color of the car and wheels, but the magnums on the car now will probably stay. The Daytona stuff is staying with the current owner. He has a good front clip to go on the car, so no worries there...
Stay tuned....
Troy

Here's the '70 the day I got it.. That was a good day...

Now for another Chapter.......
Good for you Troy! :2thumbs: For me personally a Six Pack 70 is one of those back burner dream cars but at the end I would take the 500 too because it's a front burner. :D
The pair are going to look incredible together.
Holy Crap how cool is that? When does a bird come home to your nest? :icon_smile_big:
I vote to keep it Y2... :drool5: :drool5: And add the 4-speed.. :drool5:
Do you still want my 69 :icon_smile_big: :callme: :whistling: I'll take that Y2 off your hands... :yesnod: :drool5:

The Daytona stuff is all there... He's going to take it all off and replace it with a regular '69 clip like original. He has everything, including grille except for the brackets and 2 fillers for the grille repositioning. But, I can get that from Mike over at Dayclona...

Not sure.. Didn't dig too deep when I found out none of it was going... I was/am more concerned that '69 Charger sheetmetal goes back on, which it will... I prefer to get it back to a C500 since I have a Daytona already... Man, did I just say that !!??

Good job Troy! :2thumbs: I think that yellow and black combo looks pretty good. Is the drivetrain numbers matching?
By the way, if I'm not mistaken, I think that passenger side mirror is a kinda rare option, too. :scratchchin:

You should find out how much more he'd want for the Daytona stuff and just drive it like it is!
At any rate congrats on the new ride.

MyMy.......... Seems as though you have won the lottery! Congrats to you and Julie. I think you should ask her what color, as she will be the Owner/Driver of both of them in a few short years. Unless...You go to sleep every night for the next 30 days and repeat.

Hey Rich... Naaaa, the original drivetrain long gone... That's alright. If anything, it allows me less quilt for the thought of converting it to a 4-speed like my former C500 (Dana). I was tickled as well when I saw the passenger mirror...

Danny... We're not quite sure yet, would love your help and hang out, but we live pretty far from each other........
It all depends on few things.
1. How much would it be for a transportation company to exchange the Chargers (maybe a discount because the firm would be bring and taking instead of a 1-way deal)
2. Saving up / selling some stuff to come up with said transportation.
3. If we both agree to meet half way, how the exchange of Chargers onto the other's trailer at the meeting point would happen.
We hope to carry this out within the next month or two.
I'm going to be taking the A-833 I have in the '70 out and putting in the 727 I have for the car and he's, if weather's ok up there, taking off the Daytona clip/wing and putting on the standard '69 Charger clip..

Dave,
I stand corrected, you are right, the candy apple C500 is indeed the C500 I'm getting. You recollection is remarkable. It was just confirmed by the current owner who saw the picture. It is from 1980... And it is a Superbird wing on it at that time... Even tunnel ram through the hood.......
Troy
Glad to hear that .I thought had a match
Cool! Put the tunnel ram back on it!
Hey Troy, as much as I love both the C500's and the Tona's the in in-betweener just doesn't work for me.
Good luck on getting the car.

Sounds like a car a friend of mine owned in the 1980-90s... Orange, black interior, black vinyl top, automatic (column originally, but changed over), 4.10 ratio 8.75 axle, chrome bumpers... I will call him later today to ask where it came from.
Post some pics...

I only know of one R-code '70 'Cuda that's been around here forever and it's a 4-speed car...... It's currently going through restoration now. It's a Gold car....
Sorry...... Maybe Allen will be able to shed some light........

I think I met him or another green bird former owner last week. He had pictures of his Superbird that was totaled with a drunk ran a red light and he t-boned him with his Bird. The bird's front was WASTED !!!!!
I recall a few green superbirds from Houston Don H Randy P and the one me a Ted rescued from MLK blvd down town that was chained to a tree and had side pipes .There was another bird but orange at Macks transmissions at Cullen blvd forever in Houston .I know the guy that had it in his yard .And never seen or saw from it again at pineknoll st..the MLK car
(http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e67/75414/HoustonTXsuperbird001.jpg) Whats odd this is another green superbird I also seen in the houston area.It to has no vinyl top And when the lastime you seen a superbird with side pipes also this car was chained to the tree

In my notes It was Mike AKA Joseph Micheal Khoundtis. We went to Scottsdale AZ to leos with cash and 426 parts to deal .On that same road trip Dave Hosha also worked for Leo .Dave Hosha at the time owned the Diamante Challenger.Mike sold the car for $17K I recall

I gotta hunt them down those pictures that was quite a road trip .He brought a gym bag of cash we hit a border check point at las cruses NM asking us if we had catcus.Guy didnt say anything about the cash he saw the tralier and we said we were on the way to pick up a car. Before Mike got this car .He showed me pictures and info on a hemi challenger ragtop but car was in Sweden.Troy on green houston superbird I think there was one in Alvin or pearland TX Marvin ? maybe
One step closer... sold my '70 am-fm radio and now about nearly 67% of what I need for the transportation. The other amount shouldn't be a problem... tick tock, tick tock.....
:popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn: :popcrn:
Playing around with some software... The view into the garage from out front might be something like this........... :yesnod:
The yellow and orange are a good contrast...... OK, OK,,,, I'm bored here eating my lunch.........
Another couple of pictures.. We'll probably have the transportation company swing by the homes mid-next week...... Pete's pretty much buttoned up putting the car back to C500-status. :2thumbs:
Here's where he's filled in the holes and touched up the stripe. That was nice of him... So, I'll be running a "Daytona" stripe for a while...
Also,,, more of the front clip replaced......
tick-tock-tick-tock........
AB
Looks like a solid car!
vraiment cool verry nice troy! i like the 500 69...
Just called and arranged pick-up/delivery for both Pete and I... :2thumbs: Getting closer............
My '70's packed up and ready to go and from what I hear, the C500 is getting picked up tomorrow.. It's really happening !!!
Before anyone freaks.... Pete's the one who suggested I attach the brackets to the sheetmetal as well.... :icon_smile_big:
i don't understand that at all. is the windshield out or something? what's the purpose of the OSB?

The back glass is out.. The front windshield is in the car........ I'm trying to seal the back of the car from weather. I have a plastic drop cloth under the OSB and the edges taped off......
Why cant you put the car on the trailer and then bag the whole car? :shruggy:

What?........ It's an open trailer.........The wind going down the road would rip the "bag" right off.....
are those brackets screwed into the sheet metal?

Yeap.. That was Pete's suggestion. For him, welding the tiny holes will be a peice of cake. Believe me, I treaded doing it........

Me too... Looks like the '70 will still be here when the C500 comes a knockin', hopefully Friday. That's the scheduled date of arrival. First clitch, they slightly bent the lower driver's side radiator core support... Grrrrrrrrrr :rotz: Driver's assistant...
But Pete seems to think it'll be an easy fix with a 2x4 and hammer..

O come on you two guys Danny and stuart You just need to flip a coin to see who gets my Daytona But what about the 500 both of you have one. Tell you what Im going to do , I will fill up the Daytona with some good Ol 110 gas get her all cleaned up have it reedy to go to the winner of the coin toss. Is that OK with both of you. :icon_smile_big: Jay.
Oh I'd gladly take the C500 as well Jay. 3 car garage, and only 1 car in it right now so room for the both of them. :) That would be a lot of R4 red in one room though, but I think I could survive.
No need to fill the car up Jay. It will be many many many years before I can talk ya out of it all proper like so go ahead and continue to use whatever fuel you usually run in it for the time being. But if your just itching to get rid of it ASAP let me know. I'll save a nice spot in the garage for it.
T-minus 2 days and counting....... :icon_smile_big:

Beautiful car - and I love the color combo!! For some reason (and it might be the overcast weather) but it looks a bit more "yellowish" than I remember. Anyway, if that's the case, I'm sure the final color will be exactly as ma-mopar intended for its restoration. :icon_smile_wink:
Remember Troy...this is also coming from a guy who loves the LL1 Dark Turquoise and White combinations - - and I was in heaven with your old 1968 Charger !!

its a odd color , in direct sunlight ! it looks cream , in some lights overcast , it looks more of a brown tinge or mustardy look , , sometimes green !! :-\ but its a very cold yellow as it says on the color spectrum , on the greener side of yellow , if that makes sence :-\
i know on photos it dont come out all that well , does look a bit dark yellow though hard to say from here ! , altough in some lighting it looks simular to mine , but it is a very bright light yellow Y2 ,

i can scan the Y2 spray out i done before i painted mine , if you want then just print it out , wont be exact as inks & printers are not like real paint , but will give you an idea ,

Came across this old thread showing a Daytona and the Hemi C500 under a shed (apparently at Roger Gibson's place). Jim had mentioned something about it and a trade he tried.. My, for inspiration, mine came true as I had dreamed..... Little did I know 4 years ago !!!!

Congrats man, they look like they're both solid cars.
I hope the driver lowers the Charger, it looks a little high from here.
Remember, that's coming from someone who's hauled over height loads & has hit an overpass before. :-\ Although overpasses are all high in Texas for the most part.

I can think of 2 or3 bridges near where I used to live that big trucks get stuck under from time to time, thing is most of railroad bridges were built 1800s-early1900s when hight wasn't an issue.

All I know is it went on to Carson City, NV when I met the buyer at Page, AZ where I picked up the '70 v-code Charger R/T...
Grille update: from the past......
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,71017.0.html
Brake update.... Started tearing into it.. I just recieved me complete brake line kit from FineLines....... I'm in the process of removing the forward sections of the line system. The hard part will be the firewall line I'm sure. I had to cut the line at the valve, so it definitely will have to be replaced prior to restoration.. I'm going over to a friends tomorrow to use his air compressor so I can get the pistons out of the calipers and rebuild the assemblies. The booster and master cylinder seem fine... I'll attack the front to rear line and the Dana differential in the next day or two.... Slowly but surely....... The lines on the front were too far gone to trust not replacing it all...... I was able to find both side of the special brackets for the caliper's brake lines and caliper rebuild kits..
Starting to put the new lines on...... Coming together.. The hard one, if I can do it, is replacing the firewall line......
:scope: :coolgleamA: good stuff :popcrn:
More stuff.... Putting the driver's side caliper back together and mounted in the car. Fit's pretty good. Glad I did this for the Bendix system is pretty easy.... New calipers seals, new hoses and as seen before, new lines... I removed the old front-2-rear line and the Dana lines as well. I'll tackle the passenger side here in the coming week along with installing the new Dana lines, wheel cylinders and hardware kit... Rest of the car doesn't look all that pretty, but, I'll get to that later.. I just wanna get the car going down the road... :icon_smile_big:
Well, things are wrapping up on the hydraulic brake system. I've replaced all the lines, cleaned out the valving and replaced the master cylinder. I attached it to the power brake booster and freshened up the unit with a fresh coat black. I'm going to see about turning the drums and getting hardware.... After I get the brakes all bleed and good to go, new fuel lines are next.............

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this ad?
i don't think it's a genuine ad, but rather one that robin (magnumcharger) photoshopped?
I would love to get a copy.
These Troy trades are rampant.
