I had an electrical short so I need to replace some items.
What all will I need as far as all the electronic parts on the firewall?
73' Charger Rally, 400 BB, A/C, Eclectronic Ignition
I know that I need a new Voltage Regulator, Ballast and Ignition Box. What is the piece called by the brake master cylinder that the wiring bolts onto?
Am I missing anything?
Nacho, if you have a diagram that would be great.
Thanks everone. This is a mess. :brickwall:

AAAAAND... about A/C... there is a wire running up to A/C compressor. I taped together to the engine harness, with an intermediate plug to separate from the rest of A/C harness. there are several setups to the A/C, so is hard to predict how is your one.... if you can take pics of what still rest of engine harnes and a view of bulkhead and area around will be great.

Some cars runs the A/C wires with a grommet throught the firewall, some other uses the two cavities left on all blukhead by tranny harness and engine harness ( when no tach on 73 ), one to clutch the other one to blower

On 74 for example the empty tranny harness cavity was used for tach, since engine harness uses all the cavities due the interlock, and A/C harness is with a grommet, but on 73 there are diff setups.

HardCharger

Hello everyone,

I have found this info very helpful. Thank you. Thanks to Nacho as well who's info has given me a lot to read to better understand my Ammeter and wiring.

I have a 74 B-Body Charger Slant Six A/C car that has some wiring issues I'm now working out.

It sure seems that the 73-74 Charger wiring and bulkhead is much different from earlier years yet I have not seen much mention of that in all my searching.

The white plastic engine harness connector you noted from Ebay is is one of four different types of connectors on the engine side that connect to the bulkhead. 2 smaller white connectors that have a nub on opposite sides so they do not interchange, and 2 larger connectors one with 2 nubs on one side and the other without nubs. These larger connectors are not identical.

The wiper connector which is the 2 smaller connectors seems easy enough to get but not the other small connector. Does anyone know where to get all four unique white plastic plugs for the engine side of the bulkhead?

Also, where can one get the bulkhead for a 74 Dodge Charger?  :brickwall: That black Ebay bulkhead that states 66-76 ABCDE which would fit my 67 Charger looks nothing like the white bulkhead my 74 Charger has. The bulkhead is black plastic inside a white casing which piggy backs the fuse panel. Part numbers I see on the bulkhead are; ASSY 2983217 on the black plastic inner area and 2983215 on white plastic outer case. I don't know whats involved with seperating the case/bulkhead. Can someone point me to where I can get this stuff or links to more info on the subject?

Thanks

There is/was some related NOS stuff around for 71/74s B and E bodies, but is the Fusebox ( don't look the price )  :-\ ::)

BTW I'm searching for a fuse box... mine was PERFECT with the harness I got, but began to melt recently dunno why, on hazzards/brakes/dome light cavity... but won't pay THAT.

Fuse box is attached to back of bulkhead with just a pair of clips that you can push and will release the fuse box

The plug I posted is the right one for 71/74 B bodies ( and E bodies ) engine harnesses. I posted the ebay link just because includes the terminals on same deal. That one and the rest of bulkhead plugs are available as repros from several dealers. Chargerspecialties, Year One, Paddock and lot of dealers have them too. Evans Wiring harnesses carries them too. I got form him at Carlisle.

The HEADLIGHTS harness bulkhead plug for 3rd gens what does have an OFFSET cavitty for battery terminal wire ( thr one what carries the fuse link ) IS NOT BEING reproed yet, or at least is not being sold separatelly from repro harnesses, but Fran Mitchel have it NOS ( I got it from him )... at least HAD it, on $10. Dunno if Evan's carries it too as repro.

and THIS IS what I made on my A/C harness setup. The "boxed" lines are taped. since I taped the section running to compressor in to the Engine harness, then I fit a plug in betwen A/C harness and Engine harness to be able to separate one from the other. Not really sure IF IS on that way, but I made it.

as I told 74s are with a grommet through the firewall due the lost of some cavities because the interlock setup. Mostly 73 I have seen carries the compressor wire on the engine harness empty cavity ( if not tach ) and the blower harness on the tranny plug empty cavity, but everything changes according with car options.

Thank you so very much Nacho for the extra information!

The main harness is now out and I'm leaning toward Ron Francis. This stock harness could be saved, however the Ammeter lines made a pretty good mess and I'm not sure putting this car's harness back to stock  :eek2: (given all the relays I'd like to add) is in the cards...

Again Nacho, thank you!  :2thumbs:

Assuming all the other differences in wiring and lack of fuse panel are not considered, would the earlier style all black bulkhead fit the 73 74 Chargers firewall? Are the holes in the firewall the same even with the different bulkheads? It looks like they are, but could someone who knows for sure please chime in?

Thanks

Does anyone know for sure if the firewall bulkhead holes are the same for 66 - 76 Mopars?

Will something like this work in a 74 firewall even though it is not the factory 74 set up?

No.

1st and 2nd gens are clipped on to firewall, 3rd gens are bolted.

beside that 3rd gens have the fusebox clipped on to back of bulkhead, for a while earliers are in to glove box liner
